Not only safe but very fun. It was built as a test track, so every corner was designed to find the limitations of a car, not the driver. What is impressive is the way these different corners flow so well into each other. I can't stress enough what a delight this track is to run on.
Only corner to be concerned with is #10 which leads onto the front straight, only because there is a wall pretty close on corner exit. This is really not a big deal unless you are racing for a win. For an open lapping event just use good judgement through 10 and enjoy pushing you and your car in the other 95% of the track.
I'd be happy to share my track notes on Putnam for anyone interested in improving their driving skills.
Depending on how my racing season pans out, I might just show up and let everyone from CR see my tail lights
unless you teach me so well the student shows the master a trick or two

salvage cars are great for cheapness because their resale is low..Be careful and inspect it closely (at a shop or yourself)....it could have been salvaged for some stupid reason that still makes it a good candidate for whatever your needs be.
for instance, if I wanted to buy a track car, I'd have no prob buying a salvage because it will be cheap and depending on the car, the salvage reason could be easy to work with

this kind of thing works great for a small community....for something as bg as CR, I don t believe it is wise or logistically sane at all

edit: but of course, I am ready and willing to be proven wrong, with delight.....and a side of cole slaw

no...one of Brian's ... I know what I asked

Never said it had to be new. Just asking if there was anything for 30k that interested anybody more than the 5.0.
I am keeping my car in plans for a weekend/track/fun car in about a year or 2.
Bought new strut mounts and bearings to fix the noise, and added a goody from APR.

While Monster Tajima's 9:51.278 drive was the most notable record-breaking time at Pikes Peak this year, the addition of new paved sections also allowed a new best time to be set for the motorcycle class. Carlin Dunne, the owner of Ducati Santa Barbara in California, dominated the motorcycle division in a stock Multistrada 1200, completing the 12.42 mile course in 11:11.32.
Dunne's fellow Ducati riders didn't fare so well. Six-time winner Greg Tracy fell on the slippery, gravel-covered pavement, and Mark Cernicky, after qualifying second, suffered a flat tire just a few minutes into his run.
The record for an electric motorcycle was also broken at Pikes Peak this year. Chip Yates laid down a time of 12:50.094, besting the record set last year by more than four minutes.

PS: Monster Tajima's run was phenomenal
The most amazing thing about this run? Tajima DESTROYED the car!Seriously; when it got to the top of the hill fluid was gushing from the radiators. The motor and turbos where cooked, ruined. Tajima said that the car started overheating two miles into the 12 mile run. 9:51 is pretty much the fastest time that car could possibly have gone. It was physically incapable of giving up any additional performance. The Monster was totally in the zone, driving 11/10s the whole way up. He was so far beyond the limit it was just mesmerizing to witness first-hand. He went around the three corners that make up The Sump (where this pic was taken) as if it was one continuous bend. From start to finish he was on it the whole time. I heard from people at the starting point that it was the hardest launch any of them had ever witnessed; he exploded off the line and did not slow up for a nanosecond. By the time he was a couple hundred yards into the race he was already four seconds ahead of Rhys Millen.
Fucking unbelievable. I felt so privileged to see it; and on my very first experience as an in-the-flesh PPIHC spectator to boot. Just too cool!

The RS-3's are good tires that seem to heat up really fast. I haven't used them in auto-x, but I can only guess that they are perfect for it. From the reviews i've seen, they're not optimal for Mid-Ohio, as they will get too much heat after a few laps.
RS-3 handle a lot of heat easily. and I believe you're thinking of Hankook Ventus RS-3...not the Cooper RS3 that Jones listed

^ Damn! Reminds me of my old turbo laser on its worn out 150k mi suspension!
it s not worn suspension there though....it is rather lack of stock rear roll stiffness (rear bar is only 20mm) coupled with lots of lateral grip (read: sticky-icky tires)

haha
