  1. I've pondered my own question most of the evening. Since I already have a track toy(granted, its yet to actually hit the track)  I narrowed it down to a couple different options.

-buy a used v strom and farkle the hell out of it. Good suspenders, brake work, some luggage, and ride the heck out of it.

-dual sport-dr650,xlr650, something along those lines. After doing a few track days, the street doesn't speak to me the same way it used too. I think being able to mix it up in the dirt and street would bring the excitement back of riding off the track.

  2. To hard to answer for someone else since every one is in a different situation. If it was me and it has to be toward a bike I'd get a used Diavel. But I already have s dedicated track bike and a street Sportbike. Of I didn't have any bike I'd get an R1 cause that's what I have now.

Again too hard to answer since everyone has different situations.[/quote

I certainly don't have 10k, I just pondered this today and quite frankly I found myself not too sure what I'd get!

  3. We never had any crashing in novice in my track adventures, but what I will say , is that it always seems there is a couple of people that don't want to follow the "no passing "in the early sessions. I've not quite understood the reasoning behind this. It appears to me that the guy being towed by the control rider panicked and was in too deep before he realized and stood the bike up....

  4. I'm always up for learning what's around here, meeting other riders.

On a side note, am I nuts for thinking that though it's slower, thumpier, peakier and quirkier, the Vulcan is more fun than the 'Hawk?

Nope- I have an sv650 and an fz1 and the sv650 is my main choice for fun!

Great write up! Keep that approach to riding and knowing your personal limitations and you will have a long, enjoyable riding career.

  5. I bought a $20 Harbor freight wheel balancer, and I have the Honda weights that snap in and grip the wheel center spline, no fly off. Easy to do, and no extra wear on the tire where there was never designed to be wear.

don't hold me to this, But i believe for track days your required to use stick on weights, and have the weights taped with duct tape.

  6. He has put them in my tires ;)

no Gimmick they are in every tire I own. Also ran in most semi fleets and large commercial tires, dump trucks, semis etc as spin balancing them is hard and costly. I used to work for Arctic Express and they had a fleet of 500 semis, all running Equal, a different brand but same thing as Dyna Beads. All commercial truck tire shops have them and install them too

I second this. My dump truck runs them.

  7. When you are in the first class they have you line up (in the classroom) where you think you would belong slow to fast. After your first session you can move up or down. It is very relaxed and informal. The only exception is be there when you are supposed to be there. Time is limited between sessions. You ride 20 minutes, class is about 20 minutes, then you have 20 minutes to go to the restroom and get ready to start all over.

Also, after the first three sessions it really doesn't matter what group you are in.

Awesome. Thanks for the heads up!
