they lost 90 people to one highly specific method, The point is the pushes for new laws will never stop. They do have a 12th of our population spread over the same area.

The latest homicide in Australia report by the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) shows 13 per cent of people murdered in 2008/09 and 2009/10 were killed by firearms, down from 25 per cent in the late 1980s.  But knife murders have risen from 30 to 41 per cent over the last decade.

    https://aic.gov.au/publications/mr/mr21

It looks like this is where you got your info.Something like 551 murders over two years?Again,We should be as lucky,or diligent,as Australia.

I like the first line of your first link..."One punch assaults have claimed 90 Australian lives since 2000"

In 13 years the Aussies lost as many people as Chicago gun deaths average in two weeks!Just one American city.We should be as lucky as the Australians.

I hear a lot of stats about Canada, UK and Australia. But when I look it up, it's seldom true. Looked the UK up recently, and their murder rate was about the same as ours (per capita), at the time of their firearms ban. It then went up for a decade or so, as high as a 70% increase for a while. Now back where it was. Knife attacks and common crime is out of control in places like London. So no, UK is the same or worse regardless of restrictive laws. And no idea why murders jumped higher for a while. Australia confiscated, but admitted only a fraction of the known weapons were turned in (nor the unknown weapons). You could see in photos, a lot of it was pure junk. Have also heard new firearms sales tripled the amount that was taken away. And yes, their crime stats jumped for a while also. Odd, because some cities can have success, but an entire country is difficult. But not all of them, as in Chicago. Never even bothered looking up much about Canada, it's just not the same.

Just a quick google search at breakfast gave me this...http://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/stats/Crime/Violent-crime/Murder-rate-per-million-people.A little old but the U.S is close to three times the nearest of the others mentioned.

I admit Cooper was a nut but a few things he wrote read like a play book when the 2nd amendment gets voted out of existence 90% of the people that own guns will give them up no different then what happend in the UK ,Australia  or Canada the ones that do not turn in their guns will be labeled terrorist or extremist and imprisoned or killed. Look at the protests going on around the country now do you thing that when these kids get married and have families that their kids will be pro gun. It's winter I'm bored and the ones on here that know me know I  like to stir the pot just food for thought.

I wouldn't mind living in the U.K.,Australia or Canada. They all have much better health care than the U.S. and I'm sure their murder rate is a fraction of ours.

Since I'm not in a well regulated militia and we now have a standing Army the 2nd amendment is antiquated.

  5. For me the perfect day ride is a twisty route of 200-300 miles on nearly new, clean pavement. But the thing that really makes for a great ride is when you're in the zone...hitting entry speeds perfect, shifting nice and smooth at the right rpm,the right lines that allow rolling on through the curves....basically just feeling at one with the bike and road. And to top it all off,a nice fall day when the trees are at peek color.

Like a fisherman that remembers that big bass...those are the days that keep me riding. You never know when you'll land another one.

  6. ^^^^This is why I do the things I want to do now!My dad died at the same age I am right now...57.The only good thing that came from his early death is my realization of just how precious and short life and health are.Every day you wake up in good health truly is a blessing...don't waste it or take it for granted.

If you can,do your California trip.I really hope you can do it soon and it's even more enjoyable than you imagined!!!

  7. Just do it.Fuck the money,if your health holds out you can always make more money. If your health doesn't hold out it isn't going to matter anyway. You've got the right bike for it...I 've been out there 3 times on FJRs.It's not that expensive if you camp and you'll meet a lot of Interesting people in campgrounds.Speaking of camping...reserve site 44 in Samual P Taylor S.P. in Oleama for a night or two, nothing like camping in the redwoods. You might as well do the Beartooth Pass on you're way out,it will keep you heading west anyways.Definitely ride highway 1 North out of San Francisco  at least to Urieka. The best motorcycle road in America! If you can ride the section just North of S.F. from Mill Valley to Stinson Beach early on a Sunday morning....not much traffic then, and that section is a blast if you can catch it without traffic! But damn near all of it is a blast and especially in the Ft Bragg area once you leave the ocean and go through the forest near Leggit.Just do it,you won't regret it.

  8. Illegal immigration is really an easy problem to solve. We have just been vilifying the wrong people. We need to confiscate the property and lock up the people that hire the illegal immigrants...No Loopholes! These are the American citizens that knowingly hire and exploit these people for their own financial gain while breaking American laws and avoiding paying taxes. Before someone even says it...I throw the b.s. card on the idea that they don't know that they're illegal.

The border wall is a hugh waste of money, you have to take the carrot away,if you don't take the carrot away they will still get here one way or another.Stop blaming the immigrants...it's the greed of the wealthy that causes this problem.Same as slavery and the problems it created and we are still dealing with today.

  9. Good luck, let us know how it works out.Be careful about getting into one of those deals where you owe the company $5000 or more for your training if you don't stay with them a certain length of time.

  10. It's probably worth mentioning that the rider was 78 or 79 years old, which leads many people to question a possible health issue. He was a very seasoned and respected rider and member of the FJR community.I just talked to someone that was at the accident scene shortly after the crash. From what he said it was an easy turn, like a 35 mph suggested turn after a long straight away...something Petey would have no problem with.

    Thankfully he went quick,probably instantaneously.

RIP Petey, the FJR community has lost another one of it's long time members that gave it its soul.

555 south of Chesterhill has all the reflectors removed. Road is very dirty, but it looks like they are gonna pave it very soon.

No pavement...chipseal.Same thing on 145 North of 821.I hope this is a precurser to future paving, otherwise it just sucks.

Really leaning towards the no-mar classic. It's a forever changer, life time warranty solid as a rock no motor vavles or switches to break.

...and it's made in America. If you're going to the AIME show they might have some deals.Check their website for what days they're going to be there.

Anyone ever watch the movie "Mondo Sahara"? Not a bad movie about adventure motorcycling.

I got one with a recent Aerostitch order. It's still sitting on my table unopened.I've been busy the last couple weeks.I might get to it after the end of the month.

  14. I heard this last night at an eclipse meeting...

When the Earth moves between the Sun and Moon you have a Lunar eclipse.

When the Moon moves between the Earth and Sun you have a Solar eclipse.

When the Sun moves between the Earth and Moon you have the Apocalypse.

Read Bonhoeffer's "On Stupidity". It applies to all sides. People have abandoned logic in favor of the party ideals fed to them. They no longer think for themselves. And they no longer empathize because they consider anyone that doesn't think like them to be an enemy, or an appeaser.

The Left is intentionally trying to destroy this President. It's disgusting. And the Right shouldn't have elected the moron in the first place.

I have come to the realization recently that there is no fixing this and it's all going to end in violence and pain.

Rarely do I find anything of value on OR,but that link is definitely worthwhile reading.Thank you.

278N is fun with a few blind Jumps and Curves. There are a few residential driveways so clear the view before launching.:) I normally depart Nelsonville and stay on 278N to right on 595N just past Carbon Hill. 595N into New Straitsville is fun then right on 216 to Murray City left on 78N to Glouster, (Fuel) and then you must decide 329S to Trimbel and Amesville at 550. or 78E. Just a change to the routine.IMHO

If anyone has an interest in local history there is a very interesting cemetery at the perry/hocking county line on 595.Paynes Crossing was a community of freed slaves.Several of the men served in the Colored Troops in the Civil War.I often stop there on rides to take a water break and try to imagine the lives those men led.Truely adventurous souls! My 04 FJR also turned over 100,000 miles there.
