I set up my battery offset table, rolled the passenger fender, diagnosed a faulty fuel sending unit and started to change the oil. Definitely a pucker moment regardless. Compression like Scott said, check the PS lines for leaks, and profile the person you're buying from.

Add timing till it knocks and then pull it back degree by degree. Dial your fuel map in to the desired A/F ratio throughout and smooth the details. Review your logs with each step to make sure all parameters are in accordance. With some research, willingness to learn, and advice, anyone can do it.
