My high school had both a rifle team and trap-shooting team, as well as a shooting club. It wasn’t at all unusual to see students carrying cases, or even slung rifles down the halls in the morning—especially guys that hunted before school. Our school actually had an extended Thanksgiving break, since rifle season (this was not in Ohio) begins the Monday following. No one kept locks on their lockers…When there was a new student who did, most were suspicious of what it was they were hiding. I lived in a rural area, and everybody knew everybody…The local store-owner would allow kids to run a tab for soda and snacks, and pay it down when they had change.
