  1. +1 on .308. Lots of great loads for that caliber. 30-06 loads are very simular in performance to .308, dont let the longer cartrage fool you. .308 handles higher pressure and the short action rifle is more rigid than the long action. I'd be looking at the Remington 700 over any Savage. Little more money to get into but alot more high end upgrade can be done down the road. My Remington has D.D. Ross bottom metal and a 20 MOA scope mount. Both parts make the rifle more rigid and give you a bit better barrel harmonics. Now If I could only afford a .338 Lapua...
  2. Modern mag spring are pretty tough. I have a couple dozen m16 mags for the M4's loaded at any given time. The failures in feeding that come from a "bad mag" are mote often the boby of the mag failing (broken weld on the back) or sticking follower. I store most ammo in .50 and .30 cal ammo cans like several other do here. My Federal Match for my .308 is mostly still in the origional boxes, not counting the 100 rounds or so in the drag bag and the rounds stowed on my rifle it's self.
  3. I'M A CRAPPY Traffic guy (too much SWAT and violent cime time)but IMO the vehicle in the intercection has right of way, the one behind it is in holding patern. If that vehicle ( the dumb ass that nearly hit you) caused any type of accident by putting it's self ahead of the vehicle with the right of way, I would cite them for failing to yeald right of way (x2 if I could) and likely tag then with what ever else I could think up just to push the point home that they are retarded.
  4. No time or money to get the new front tire. Rear turns were salvaged out of parts that I stripped off my old Magna. With the new battery and oil breather I had to get puts me at $276 invested in the build.

  6. Finished up today. A mild ride on the street but rain and wet prevented me giving it much. Any way here it is... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNpuNh9G6vk
  7. Where almost there.... Getting close and using the last minutes.
  8. Not sure. better signals and headlight maybe. Spoked wheels. Alot depends on how I like riding it. Wont be a daily rider for sure, but may be a fun bar-hopper. I really made it "mine" with the military-sniper theme.
  9. SO CLOSE! The battery I had for this bike/battery box took a crap. I used this "barrowed" battery to test all the wiring and start the motor. Rear wheel & fender cant be replaced untill the new battery is installed. I plan to get the replacement tomorrow and get this bike ready to ptut in gear and see what happens. From tank forward I finished up with some detail work I wanted to knock out.
  10. Nothing is done till I can start it up and roll down the road. After that I'm ssure i will be happy to get off this 27 HP beast and back on my 1000 with a fresh set of Perelli's. But I gotta say it's been a fun time building it so far.
  11. Today wired most all of it up, with a barrowed battery fron one of the other bikes. The one i used for mock up ended up being dead, will grab a new one this weekend. Down side is rear tire fender had to come off to get the dead one out. That being done, I cleaned the carbs and installed them. Some gas line and a beer can of fuel I went to fire it up. 15 minutes later it RAN! Ran well too. Sounds cool for a 'lil 400. All the parts I messed with day should be all painted by the weekend and if I can pick up a few things, maybe a running bike by this time next week.
  12. NICE! My 27hp XS 400 is all in peices.
  13. That's sweet Gix. What's gonna power that beast around?
  14. Torn down, pulled motor... Triple tree's back and bored out for the new stem... Frame ready to be taken to Dad's shop for a date with bigger welders. $210.51 in the build now with the steering bearings paid for and ordered. Front 19" tire and a set of turn indicators yet to buy.
  15. Nice reload style! I trained in that "in the face" style a few years ago and it did make me a bit faster. Flashy stuff in the sporting side of thing is expected I guess. And as far as personally owned "hello kitty" guns is fine, Hell my daughter has a red framed Browning Buckmark 22. I'm too old school I guess... I remember what Patton said: "Only a pimp from a cheap New Orleans whorehouse would carry a pearl-handled pistol." I think of my firearms as tools. I pick the best one to do the job I need it to do,
  16. I hope to take a half hour wendsday and shoot a second coat on the parts and hope the tripple tree gets done to fit the new stem. This weekend I'm hoping to get alot done and maybe some art on the top of the tank while I'm waiting on parts.
  17. I'm sure if my long gun was pink it would still be as accurate... Survivibility after the shot in my job... pink may have been bad.
  18. Well, um... that just aint right..
  19. Waiting on a few parts and such I started to figure out what I could as it comes to routing the wireing. Frame is at a stand still till I get my trippple tree back from being bored out. Since I had little to do I cracked open my free can of paint and shot a few parts i could. With that much done I killed some more time messing around with a DOT Fulmer Trooper lid I had around.
  20. I would be out today if I wasnt off work with a bumm knee & actually had the new tires on the bike.I figure another month yet till I have the bikes ready to go. I am spending all my free time on the chopper I'm building. Hope to have the frame done and painted.
