Really? I had no idea. A guy at IP told me yesterday that the portion of the helmet that had to be hollowed out for the visor to retract into, automatically made the helmet not SNELL.
Let me clarify, I am not knocking the riders. Everyone has their own personal preference. Busas are not my personal preference. More power to you if you love them.
My fiancee and I fly regularly since she lives in Chicago. I have never opted out of the scan, but when they are really busy they just let people go through the metal detector. I will have to opt out next weekend.
I always try to get the SNELL rated helmets and I believe that the ones with the flip down visors do not pass their impact tests. Thus I just use sunglasses under my helmet.
