  1. So I tried to cheap out on my gap trip and borrow my friends hitch mounted motorcycle carrier. While loading it I dropped my bike off of it and it hit the ground. Broke my mirror, and damaged the tank, rear seat, bar end, case cover, and broke or scratched every fairing on the left side of the bike. Looking online and short of buying Chinese fairings the repairs are going to be more than my deductible. Im not sure how much it'll affect the cost of my insurance yet so I'll have to look in to that. But does anyone know if insurance would cover dropping my bike while loading it? I have full coverage with state farm. I know everyone's insurance is different but I'm checking to see if anyone has had a similar experience and what the insurance company said.
  2. We used Saturday and Sunday as our travel days from AZ and arrived Sunday afternoon. It was raining pretty good and we were tired so we didn't get any Sunday riding in as planned. Then we rode Monday through Thursday with a little on Friday for a total of about 1200 miles. Every day got progressively busier as far as traffic goes. Not sure when I'll make it back or there again but I'll definitely plan on song most of my riding mon-Thurs again.
  3. We got stuck in traffic just west of Tuscaloosa Alabama and noticed one of the wheel bearings was squeaking. So we spotted at a truck stop just before Meridian to check and possibly regrease it. Pulled it apart and the inner bearing had failed. Now I'm standing gaurd over the trailer while the other two guys race to the local Auto zone hoping they have one in Stock that'll fit before they close. If it weren't for the truck traffic it'd be nice sitting here listening to the crickets and frogs. You guys have fun and be safe out there we had a blast. Make sure you don't get caught going over 99 mph in Swain County. My buddy got a 106 in a 55 ticket which apparently automatically requires the trooper to charge you with reckless op and you get a trip to the local jail as well. The DA dropped the reckless op but he still had a severe speeding charge that cost him $405 dollars.
  4. We stopped by there today to grab a battery for my buddies bike. Guess he got tired of push starting it. We couldn't have missed you by much. We'll be back there tomorrow around 10 or so to throw my buddies little CBR 400 on the dyno while waiting for our other friend to go to court.
  5. Yeah it said closed to automobiles.
  6. We're here through tonight. We got the apartment above the main garage so we are keeping our bikes in there. We got back early yesterday around 730 or 800.
  7. We've been having a blast Monday we did 335 miles on the Cherohala Dragon loop then down Moonshiner 28 to Walhalla and back. Unfortunately the hot dog bbq place was closed down there. Yesterday was a short day about 250 miles. We did Road to nowhere and checked out the tunnel then some of 28 again and wayah road then one of my friends got arrested for 106 in a 55 on 28 right after we talked about slowing it down on the sweepers expecting cops. The trooper and magistrate were pretty cool with him though and are letting him out w/o bail, he's allowed to ride, they set his court date early so he can go Friday and the trooper said he's going to talk to the DA about lesser charges so it doesn't affect his cdl. Then after that we hit the dragon a few times. I got to ride my buddies little 94 cbr 400 for a bit that was an interesting little bike. Today we're going to head out blueridge parkway to little switzerland and do the snake or what ever it was. Maybe head out to the Linville Cove Viaduct. Looks like we may do 380 miles today.
  8. We're at the Two Wheel Inn. When you coming into town? Did I buy a hot bodies exhaust for a cbr off of you awhile back?
  9. We drove straight through from New Mexico yesterday and just got settled in. Going to try to grab some sleep then head out for a bit after a power nap.
  10. Here's how my gap trip started the night before last. My straps were too long to hook up with canyon dancer. I should have lowered the bike down and tied off the canyon dancer but instead I decided to try to strap it around the lower triple tree. I got the clutch side strap on without issue. I had to use both hands to get the strap through on the throttle side. As I was doing that I bumped the bike off center and shifted the weight past the balance point and it started falling. I was able to slow it down but it fell and busted the front of the lower fairing, shattered the mirror, scratched the tank and all the fairings on the left side. Had to throw on some zip ties and gorilla tape (in honor of Harambe) and its ready to ride. Made it to my buddies house in NM last night took it out for a quick ride and it runs fine. We're picking another guy up in Dallas tonight at 6:30 then hoping to make it to Louisiana tonight and then Robbinsville tomorrow.
  11. I found woman on the map. Is the good section from 28 to Clayton GA? I couldn't find route details on blood mountain. Whats the best route there and what is the area to ride?
  12. Does anyone know of any roads in the Tail of the Dragon area that are great rides but might not be well known or any roads you consider must rides in the area? I'm planning on hitting up in no particular order: Dragon, Cherohala, Blue Ridge, Moonshiner 28, Wayah Rd, Forest Rd 711, Road to nowhere, and maybe check out Bridal Veil Falls. Anything I'm missing that you know of?
  13. It's been a long time since I've been on here. But I just saw that you guys are planning the annual trip again. Some friends and I are heading out there June 5th and leaving June 10th. Hopefully we'll be able to meet up I haven't seen you guys forever. We're staying in Robbinsville at the two wheel inn.
  14. The guy I was splitting travel costs with backed out. As of now it doesn't look like im going to make it.
  15. http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2015/01/07/port-columbus-shooting.html "The man was identified by police this morning as 41-year-old Hashim Hanif Ibn Abdul-Rasheed. Police said he tried to buy an airline ticket to an undisclosed destination with a woman’s ID." "They said there was no indication that terrorism was involved, despite the shooting occurring on a day when world news was dominated by a deadly terrorist attack at the offices of a French newspaper." ^^BULLSHIT!^^ Just a couple months after the media put out information saying that ISIS was calling for extremists to perform lone wolf terrorist attacks? They also brought out the bomb squad. I guess this is considered a peaceful protest like Bengahzi.
  16. The world is full of crazy people. But by the sounds of it this guy freaky didn't think things through. Using a females ID to buy a plane ticket? Then what was his master plan at security? Why buy the ticket? On a side note they may want to track down the female that the ID belongs to to make sure she isn't bleeding out in that guys basement.
  17. Automatic transmission?
  18. Carrying a loaded gun on a bike requires a ccw license whether it's concealed or not. But I think if you transport it unloaded in separate un-accessible storage in saddle bags is the same as in a car.
  19. I carry a full size HK P2000 40 cal IWB at least 5 times a week. I use the cross breed holster I've had for 3.5 years. It fits awesome slightly around the backside of my hip about 4 o'clock. Down side is after about 3.5 years the kydex is showing a few hairline/stress cracks so I'll probably need a new one soon. Also a good belt is needed for the heavier gun so light clothing is out if your a fan of athletic sorts and pajama pants. I also have a compression shirt holster. It's similar to an under armor shirt with a stretch panel on the side. It holds everything from my P3AT to my .45 XD easily and comfortably. I've even carried my wife's Taurus judge in there a few times. That shirt is my way of choice for carrying while on a bike. Or if I am wearing athletic clothing such as when I go out and run. The bigger the gun the more it can rub and beat on your ribs while you run or bounce around a lot. The main factor is the type of clothing you have. If you tend to wear longer baggier shirts then OWB will work well. It is more comfortable while walking and easier to get to but harder to keep concealed. Of you've got the room in your waist band and tend to wear tighter shorter shirts the IWB is the way to go.
  20. The video works based on its shock factor. If it wasn't so screwed up we wouldn't be talking about it. It's a train wreck we can't stop watching.
  21. Strip the interior and all body work that isn't essential to the operation of the vehicle to offset the added weight.
  22. I can't wait to hear about a teacher getting busted for having a stolen handgun in a school. "I swear a student just gave it to me." It's funny the anti gun crowd thinks finds are a bad idea but this is a good one. Proof darwinism doesn't work in today's society.
  23. That's a risk that is necessary to carrying a gun. But when your life is on the line it is a burden and risk worth undertaking. Luckily the Graham VS Connor decision outlines use of force for police officers but it can also be used for self defense cases by citizens. The big part is that any analysis of the use of force must be considered and viewed from the officer/person using force's perspective based on the facts present to that person at the time. "c) The Fourth Amendment "reasonableness" inquiry is whether the officers' actions are "objectively reasonable" in light of the facts and circumstances confronting them, without regard to their underlying intent or motivation. The "reasonableness" of a particular use of force must be judged from the perspective of a reasonable officer on the scene, and its calculus must embody an allowance for the fact that police officers are often forced to make split-second decisions about the amount of force necessary in a particular situation." I carrying a gun with me almost every time I leave the house. I accept the risk that I may need to use my gun because although I don't want to use my gun I will if it protects me or an innocent person. I'd rather be alive at the end of the day.
  24. Nothing says you have to shoot your gun just because you are carrying. You can always choose not to shoot. Just because you give a bad guy what they want does not garauntee they won't shot you anyways. Your most likely the best person to ID them later. If you point a gun at someone you take upon the risk that their reaction could be deadly for you. But the basic idea is there are three things needed to justify using deadly force, means/ability, opportunity and intent. Is the person presenting the threat to you able to cause serious physical harm or death using their abilities or weapons they have? Are they in a position where they can carry out a threat of serious physical harm or death? Do they in your (the person about to respond in defense) opinion intend to cause death to whomever they are threatening? If the three answers are not yes than the use of deadly force is not justified.
