  1. Even though I plan on picking up a supersport over the winter I won't get rid of the GS. Too much fun. Here is a before and after shot.... As purchased: As it sits today:
  2. Since the purchase I have installed the Vance & Hines full exhaust, K&N drop-in filter re-jetted the carbs, gravity pet chicken off a 2004 Honda CRF450, EBC brake pads f&r, Brigestone BT-003 (110/70F 140/70R), -1 front sprocket, slipped the forks up 5mm on the trees, 2005 Katana rear shock and Superbike bars. The fork legs will be going to Ruben at 35 Motorsports. He is going to weld up and custom drill the damping tubes, install .90 or .95 (haven't decided yet) Sonic Springs and 15wt. oil. This bike f'n rails as in 70-100mph through the backwoods. As purchased it would top out at 105mph. It will now do an honest 120mph. What it lacks in out right speed it more than makes up for in cornering.
  3. I actually got it for $900 though I have put about $1k into it at this point. Rode it in the backwoods in NKY with muh Junkies this past Sunday. Way too much fun for the entry price! I was actually laughing in my helmet a few times.
  4. I just so happen to have the non-bleeding 40's in my collection. Guess I gotta rip it apart again.
  5. These are only 2 jet Mikuni's.
  6. Seems my GS500 calls for non-bleeding type pilot jets and I inadvertently installed bleeding type. Bike is running fat on the bottom and I am trying to work with the idle air screw to compensate for the richness. Is this going to work or do I need to get non-bleeding pilots and pop 'em in? Reason for all this is since the bikes come super lean from the factory for emission purposes it is a well documented upgrade to go up one size on the pilot and main jets, shim the jet needle with one washer and 3 turns out on the idle air screws. Bike runs great except for a very slight hesitation right off idle and the exhaust smells rich at idle as well. I also thought that maybe installing a freer flowing air filter to lean it out a bit would work without having to take the carbs out and apart again. Yes/no??
  7. I read that. Though a slightly modified one a GS500 at heart.
  8. It will be nice for my wife to learn on. She won't have to take the dumb test the State makes you take. She is doing it right and taking the full course. Class was last night with the riding portion this weekend. She is stoked as hell.
  9. For the price I could not pass it up. This is a dual purpose bike for now. I have been pushing the Sportster way to hard and wanted to pick up something that handles well for me and be a good first bike for my wife as she is in the middle of the MSC. I am going to pick up an SS for myself over the winter for next season.
  10. Yosh only makes a pipe for the F, not the E. Vance & Hines is the only full system available for the E here in the States.
  11. Replaced the disco rear decals with plain white GS500 decals, 2005 Katana rear shock (already has Sonic springs/15wt. oil in the forks), smaller aluminum foot pegs, EBC HH pads front/rear, flushed all brake fluid, Superbike bars, Pro Grip 699 grips, different mirrors (not sold on them-may go with bar end), short turn signals, one step up on both jets, one washer on the needle and 3 turns out on the idle mixture screws to rid the bike of the factory lean condition. Oh, and some polishing of the paint.
  12. Just like this guy...............small and willing with a big heart here is the 1994 GS500 I picked up over the weekend. Finally got done replacing parts and sprucing it up a bit. Not bad for a total cost of $1200 adding in the replacement/upgrade parts. Just a tick under 4400 miles on him. All ready for the backwoods...... This is what I started with....... Here's me squidin' it up in the parking lot-lol:
  13. She better have opened that up in the kitchen!
  14. Hello and welcome from a fellow Cincinnatian. Sent you a PM with some local info.
  15. Picked the bike up Saturday. Upon arrival at home I started to go through it and throw the parts at it I had waiting. Installed EBC HH pads front/rear, 2005 Katana rear shock (it already has Sonic springs in the forks) and some cosmetic do-dads. The stock bars were tweaked on the right side so I had to order a pair of Superbike bars and some Pro Grip 699's. Did some fine-tuning to the carbs but had to order new jets one size bigger to get it all copacetic and rid it of the factory lean condition.
  16. Welp, I ended up with a '94 GS500E. $900, less than 4400 miles, forks already done with Sonic springs and oil, carbs re-jetted to rid the bike of the lean emission setting and 800 mile old Michelin tires. I have a 2005 Katana rear shock on the way.
  17. The AMA kit really jacks up the rear end with longer shocks. I went 1.75" longer with the Works Perf. shocks. The head shake wasn't bad and did not do it every time but was still there. I think the pro bikes use a steering damper just for this reason. I was just done putting money into the bike. My Street Rod never did this on the same roads ridden just as hard.
  18. Been there, done that.......LOL. In hind site I should have kept this one. I had a lot invested in it but I just couldn't 100% rid the bike of the head shake hard out of corners.
  19. No, I actually want an E.....I like nekkid! If this was December I would be all over it. I made a promise to myself to only use my Xmas bonus check to buy an additional bike.
  20. Holy crap, not with the crowd I would be riding with. I'd be left for dead.
  21. This is why I started this process so early. Getting some good options and info here.
  22. Yup, the nekkids have riser bars. Looked at the ergos of the 1998-2001 VFR's......30* forward lean......too far over.
