  1. Pulled into a Harley dealership on my Yamaha and as I was parking, grabbed too much front brake in the turn and dropped the bike right in front of the big giant glass window.  On a Saturday afternoon.  Picked it up, and too embarrassed to just pull away, so I walked into the dealership.  Amazingly, no one would talk to me.  So I left.

  2. My daughter is getting married at the end of the year, so I figured this year I would try and drop some weight. To that end, I got lucky getting a slot in the Marine Corps Marathon this year. Never have run one before but I have done a half once, so this should be interesting.

For decades, I did bodybuilding workouts, doing different body parts every day, and when I was still in the Marines, that was fine because that's just what we did. But for years after I got out, the question in the back of my head was always "What I am I doing this for?" The health aspect, of course, but for what purpose? Its not like I EVER wanted to strap on a speedo and pose. :supergay: I wanted something more functional, that combines more flexibility, endurance and useful strength.

So this year I think I am going to give crossfit a try. I have a respectable home gym, and I just picked up a Concept 2 rower for crosstraining days when I take a break from running. There a few things I can't do but not many. And I can always substitute exercises. I can really tell how tight my muscles were and its taking a real effort to get more limber, but so far so good. These workouts are short but intense! I like that part.

Its not for everyone for sure, and honestly I don't even know if its for me yet, but I'm going to give it a fair shot. I'll report back up when I look like a Greek God. You can hardly wait.

  3. I thought you got screwed on taxes if you're married to someone who actually makes money?

You do. We file separate so I can itemize employee business expenses and the 2% floor is lower, plus Ohio state tax screws you filing joint.

Oh and, if you ever want to get rid of your wife, may I recommend a few episodes of Lockup Raw. That should even you out.

  4. Yup yup to the above. If you live in North Olmstead then Motoseries is probably the closest and easiest for you to get started on the track. They have a novice program where you will do some classes and then head out the track for some lead/follow with an instructor. Its a lot of fun and I would highly recommend it even if you never want to enter a race. Check out the motoseries website and it will tell you everything you need to know. They also have a message board like this one for any questions or just ask them here. Lots of people will be more than willing to help you get started. :D

Hello, Just curious I'm not to familiar with your style of riding (track)...Though from what I've been reading seems pretty intense and sounds fun.. Do you have any advice ? Im not new to riding motorcycle's I've rode on and off for maybe 6 years I'd say but never track.. can you point me in the direction to get information ?

Also you said you your starting to see blue edges on your tires? I take it those are track tires? Is the blue strip on the outside ? and indicate low tread I take it right? Sorry for the newb questions but I like learning from experienced riders.

    Thank you. :)

  5. The deal is that COTA was holding a private test and can choose whom they allow and whom they do not. Had Kevin been listed on the staff that was coming to attend, it might have been different or maybe COTA would have stepped in and told Attack that at this time, they cannot permit Kevin to attend due to a pending legal case they are in with his company. i assume that Kevin was not specifically listed with Attack.

According to Kevin, he had a proper credential. I don't know how these things work having never been an insider, but I would think that would be enough.

the end, it is a business deal, folks. Business. We let our passions and emotions run at times, but had it been just a regular Joe with the same lawsuit and COTA asked him to leave, we wouldn't think twice about it... Even if he was a coach for Blake...

Ahhhh.....business. Well, if it was strictly business, I would think if you are in the business of hosting races, you have to let the teams bring their support staff to the track. If the business at hand is not subject to the lawsuit, then it would seem that kicking a properly credentialed member of Blake's team off the track is something other than just business. And if you are going to do that, he should have never been given a credential in the first place.

  6. I did Kevin's school at Indy last year, and my avatar picture is from there. A buddy of mine was doing it as well to write an article about it for his magazine and asked me if I wanted to do it with him, so I went. At the time, I knew Kevin's name and that he was a championship racer, but not much else.

My personal impression of the man isn't really relevant, but all during the school, he was always approachable and seemed very even tempered. Like a guy without a care in the world. We did everything you would expect at a school, plus he took the time for pictures, autographs if you wanted one, made some barbecue, and hung out after the riding was over just like you would at a track day. He even gave me six laps of personal lead/follow after I got separated from my group for taking off without strapping up my helmet. Whoops.

I don't know what the beef is with COTA, but according to Kevin's web page, he was there for the Attack team, with a proper credential, to coach Blake Young. Blake was also at the Indy school I attended doing laps and generally having fun interacting with the coaches and students in attendance for those two days. Now, to throw out Blake's coach could have an effect on Blake's performance in the race, and to me, that is taking it a step too far. Even if Kevin's advice can be gained from watching film, its an added distraction for one team, that the other teams don't have to deal with. COTA should have handled themselves differently, at least in a way that would minimize the impact to the Blake Young team.

  7. A buddy of mine publishes a bike rag and asked me to do a helmet review for him. The helmet was a Bell Star Carbon. Long story short I really liked the helmet and still use it today because my Arai is too old to pass tech for the track, but fit and finish go to the Arai's and Shoei's. don't get me wrong, I love the Bell Star Carbon, but if I was buying a new helmet, it would probably be one of the other brands. Mostly because I don't plan on crashing, so comfortable fit and finish are what matters most. As far as crash protection, I don't think you live through an Arai crash and die from a Bell crash. So for me, that's a push. It all comes down to what is the best helmet for every day. And my Arai was so comfy, I hardly knew I had it on for long rides. YMMV.
