  1. New Ohio Concealed Carry law has passed in the Ohio House last week and moved to Senate. It will, among other things, change the reciprocity agreement system and end up making an Ohio Permit valid in both Pennsylvania & Georgia, among others. Decision should be made in next few weeks.
  2. Count me in. I could do fri, sat, or sunday. I would prefer a one day class but could do a two day (I live 2 hours away)
  3. So its the fastback coupe with removable targa roof panels? Black leather interior?
  4. If it is hemorrhoids it has sure worked for me to totally avoid alcohol and nsaids (advil, aleve, etc.) which can thin the blood and make bleeding worse. Most people I know who have had surgery wouldn't do it again as it's painful and they often return anyway.
  5. Motor mount bolt broke off in my daughter's Buell Blast. Pulled the head so I could get the broken bolt out. I didn't get to finish it up until the next week. Put the head back on and buttoned her all up and tried to start it. The engine was seized - very weird. I finally pulled the plug and looked in the cylinder but couldn't see the top of the piston. There was some weird looking thing in there...looked just like... the shop rag I stuffed in the top of the cylinder to keep the dirt out the week before! Doh!
  6. I have my insurance with Progressive. Two years ago when I had my encounter with the deer wanting to ride piggyback with me, they did not exchange words about my gear. They said to make a list of the gear I was wearing with current prices and they cut me a check for all of it & let me keep the old. I ended up with a new helmet, mesh jacket, gloves & rainsuit and continue to use the helmet & gloves as spares. My mesh jacket would have still been usable but the EMT's got a little crazy with the scissors!
  7. You'll get the infamous Miata 60 mph wobble if you don't get a good balance. Join Miata.net and you should be able to find a good shop. There is also an Ohio Miata Owners facebook group that can give you a lot of info. Miata people are a lot like bike people when it comes to lending help
  8. The assault weapon ban will be added as an amendment to the bill later as it will probably make it easier to pass that way. It's just a ploy.
  9. Love my FroggToggs. They breathe so you don't end up wet from sweat instead of rain. Just keep your leg away from your hot pipes (or use their iron on heat guard).
  10. Excellent fathering 2talltim. Did the same thing with our 2 daughters who got in a fist fight on the school bus many years ago. Made them go straight to the bus driver and apologize face to face. They NEVER got in trouble again.

    bifocals

Beware of online purchase of glasses, especially with progressive lenses!!! There are certain measurements that need to be taken when fitting progressive lenses. You need a split PD and seg heights measured to within 0.5 mm. There is no way to do this without having these measurements taken with the frame you want actually sitting on your face. Also, many online optical stores use Chinese sourced labs which do not use lenses that meet U.S. impact resistance standards. Buyer beware!

    bifocals

I've worn bifocals for 15 years and been an optometrist for over 30 years. Your best choice visually is progressive lenses. They are more expensive by approximately $100 but will give you more natural uninterrupted vision once you learn to use them. There are different quality levels and a "cheap" lens is definitely inferior in visual quality to one of the better lenses, such as a "Varilux Physio". If you ever ride without a faceshield, then by all means get a polycarbonate lens, which is essentially "shatterproof" should a stray rock come at you at 60 mph. Polarized sun lenses are not recommended for riding, as they will reduce the "sheen" given off by an oil spill on the road, making it more difficult to pick out those slippery areas you need to avoid. A transitions lens works well for varying light conditions but may not get quite dark enough under certain conditions, especially facing the late day sun.
  13. If you are looking for the best cash (no trade) price on a Harley, drive 2 hours east on US 35 and stop by BAXTER'S HD in Gallipolis. I have bought 4 new bikes from them in the past 12 years. Even in the heyday of HD sales they sold at list price with no set-up fees. My 2011 StreetGlide I purchased at $2000 off MSRP at the beginning of the model year. It was totaled in a deer collision and I purchased a leftover end of the model year 2011 at $3000 off MSRP. They are a rural small town dealer that doesn't have a sales manager & salesmen. You work with the gals at the parts/service desk & Benny the owner. Great people that always shout out your name when you walk in the door. I know this sounds like an advertisement but THEY are the reason I ride a Harley. The local Kawasaki and Honda dealers act like you're a bother to them, if they even acknowledge that you walked in the door. No personal or monetary interest in the dealership but as a small businessman myself, I like to give kudos to someone that still runs a business the way it should be run. They just opened a new larger dealership building last month (pushed by HD )and I hope that hasn't affected their pricing structure. I'd at least give them a call.
  14. My primary interest in high school was automobiles. I was in college prep but the guys in the auto mechanics tech program would bring their cars to me to tune (this was in the early seventies when emissions controls were new & absolutely ruined the performance of cars.) Everyone was always saying, "Why don't you become a mechanical engineer since you love cars so much?" My reason was I didn't want to ruin my passion by making it my job. I knew that VERY FEW jobs are really something enjoyable, but are a means to an end. I decided I wanted to do something that would allow me to make enough money to enjoy my hobby (cars, then later motorcycles) and still be a job that I at least wouldn't hate to do the rest of my life. You will find out that there is NO job that ends up being what you think it is and no matter what, you'll have good and bad days. So, what did I decide to become? An optometrist! In no way related to cars/bikes but a career wih good hours, good working conditions and good pay. I've been successfully self employed for 30 years, raised a family, and played with a number of cool bikes & cars over the past 30+ years.
  15. A time delay feature could help prevent calls due to a dropped phone. Say, don't initiate a call for something like 30 sec. When a call sequence is initiated, possibly a CANCEL button would pop up on the screen to easily allow the user to stop the call if it is a "false alarm".
  16. My daughter is a reporter at a local TV station. There have been multiple complaints of natural gas odors when you drive through that area. I even had a patient in my office yesterday that had just passed through that area 2 hours earlier & he reported that you smell gas there frequently.
  17. Guys - it's not just 35 minutes labor. Can you even imagine what their overhead is, to provide us with a facility like that? I can't EVEN IMAGINE what their rent & electric bill is for that building. Just speaking from the point of view of a person that's spent the last 30 years self employed, it's a lot tougher than you think to make a buck with the cost of overhead now-a-days.

    Mighigan Who?

Proud to be a Buckeye tonight! Spent 8 years of my life there during the Woody years. Think we may have a new era upon us.
  19. Yes, the 88B is only on the rigid mount softails, not in the touring bikes.
  20. I don't think you're gonna find one much cheaper. Just replaced one on the exact same model last month for my son in law.
  21. Most new patients with diabetes are started on Metformin. A very recent study has found that increasing walking by 30 minutes a day is TWICE as effective at lowering your blood sugar level as is Metformin! Exercise & watch the sugar & carb intake.
  22. It's June 12th. One year ago today I ended up with a totalled $18,000 bike, $50,000 worth of medical bills and no income for 6 weeks. Thank the Good Lord for just a broken footpeg! Took a ride out to the scene of my accident this evening-I had some unfinished business with the damn deer that hit me, but he didn't have the balls to show up! Made ME feel better though.

    goodbye

If your dad really said that, please have him read this: I am 56 years old & "leader of the pack" in my family. My daughters & sons-in-law all ride & we had a family cross country trip planned for this year, to follow in the tracks of my own fathers cross country trip that he made on his HD Knucklehead in 1941. In prep for the trip, I signed us all up for the "Total Control" class offered up near Cleveland ( we live in Southeast Ohio). The class was over about 5:30 pm which meant we would be getting home about 10:00pm. We NEVER ride after dark around here because of the heavy deer presence. Anyway, we were 15 minutes from home and the next thing I remember is waking up in an ambulance asking the medics "what's going on guys?". It turns out that a deer jumped down onto the entrance ramp from the highway above, and landed ON TOP of me, knocking me off my bike. I ended up with both bones broken in my left shoulder, 6 broken ribs, a lacerated spleen, a totalled 9 month old bike and a $13,000 helicopter ride! I also missed one months work (self employed = NO sick time = NO income for a month. I was fully geared & I had not so much as a scratch on me from the get-off, all my injuries were from the impact of the deer landing on me. I had NO INTEREST in motorcycles for about 3 weeks. Another month later I was riding my new one home. Morals of the story: 1- Shit happens NO MATTER HOW SAFE YOU ARE. 2- ATGATT 3-If you really love riding, you'll be back. Just don't let your 20 something judgement & enthusiasm kill you!
  24. I'm on my 2nd Tourmaster Intake Air jacket, only because the medics had to cut my first one off of me. I can vouch for the protection offered by this mesh jacket. I had a major accident last summer and didn't have so much as a scratch on me thanks to this jacket. It was my first purchase with my insurance payment after the accident.
