barn find. not pretty. no title. might run, might not. pretty much free. located in Geauga County. would need tires and some plastic for track duty. and probably a chain and a battery. and the carbs cleaned. otherwise ready to go!

i'm going to pass on this, but if anyone else wants it send me a PM. it's be a shame to have it just rot away.

i found an old bike (barn find!) that has no title or bodywork, and looks to have spent its last miles as a stunt bike. i think it runs and i can have the bike for free (brother's barn). considering turning it into a trackday toy - nothing serious, no plans to race, maybe just something that i could throw down the track and not care. might be a good stepping stone for zack (son on ninja250). some race glass, sliders, and tires and some odds and ends might be less than 1000 invested. worth doing? could i get my money back out of it if i decide to sell it instead (as a track bike)?

my son was very 'comfortable' too his first year (as a novice), but he spent more time in the crash truck than on track. unless youre a true natural i think there's plenty to be learned in novice. take it easy. and btw, i dont think STT has membership. we never had to pay.

a few years ago i rented a concours 1400 (great sport tourer), started at Phoenix and rode around scottsdale but the weather got ugly. ended up with a mustang convertible rental and had to cover some snow covered roads on the way through prescott, sedona, and jerome. it was awesome. would LOVE to do it again on a BIKE.

just tried placing an order and got the "An error occured while connecting to Paypal." issue. I realized that i had to 'estimate shipping and tax' and for non-zero total to show up before it would work correctly. now it does, and order placed. just FYI for others trying to get some stickers!

Not-so-Slocum, Zack, and me are going to be going round the track backwards on Sunday. Prolly last TD of the year. :[

thanks to Rob for hosting the cookout Sat night. it's too bad i only now got to put the faces to the names this late in the year. hopefully there's a still a ride left before the snow flies!

i have complete respect and appreciation for the medical profession. my wife is a nurse, and i'll be the first to admit they arent paid enough for the work they do. my issue is with the word 'negligence' which to me has the very negative connotation of ignorance. i realize that in the frenzy of an accident, decisions need to made quickly and they are not always the right ones. i get that. i just dont want to think that some harm come by letting 'negligent' people perform the most important job on the track. i suppose the legal definition of the word is different, and it just means doing a wrong to cause harm. i guess thats ok given the context described above. it's just crazy how much much effort goes into avoiding accountability.

My son and I are heading there next monday. He's only 16 so they sent me a "minor release and waiver". Six pages, but i glanced over it figuring it's pretty run of the mill stuff. But then some things caught my attention that got me pretty wound up. First off, we've been involved in motorsports for years (10 for my son) and we're no stranger to danger, or injury, and accept those risks as our OWN responsibility. I've never had a problem signing a waiver. The issue i've got with MidOhio's release is that it specifically includes rescue and medical personnel as a "Releasee", or individuals absolved from liability or recourse. THEN, (this is the part that chaps my ass) they go on to say that I need to release them from "negligent rescue operations and/or procedures" and that "INJURIES RECEIVED MAY BE COMPOUNDED OR INCREASED BY NEGLIGENT RESCUE OPERATIONS OR PROCEDURES OF THE RELEASEES". I have a real problem with that word. I realize that the likelihood that their safety people are qualified is reasonably high, but it seems to give license to making mistakes. Is this typical wording? Should i be concerned? Just sign and notarize it and hope nothing bad happens? And if some 1st year medical student fucks something serious up, oh well???

i've been to the Beav a few times on my T and have had no issues with scraping parts (knock on wood!) but i'm no max biaggi. can't make Aug 4, but will be there the weekend of Sep 22-23. just do it!
-
my son just got into it. pleasantly surprised at 11 bikes on the grid last time at Nelsons. i have personally not tracked it, but ABSOLUTELY a great class to develop your skills. I was concerned about the closing speeds on trackdays, but can tell you that so far it's not been an issue - you know, the part where a 250 out brakes the 100hp bike and passes it mid corner...

CAUTION: don't do it unless you are willing to give away all your extra money (and even non-extra). it will suck you in. after your first track day, one of two things will happen: you'll be head over heels in love wondering why its taken so long to do it and you'll become obsessed, or, you'll realize that you're a dilettante.

that works too. i'll take em. i'll pm you. thanks!

Going to watch Friday practice only (cant do rest of weekend), but it seems you CAN'T buy a Friday-ONLY pass. I'd be willing to buy the full weekend general admission (70 bucks each x 2 people) if I can pawn off the tickets to someone who can use them Sat and Sun for a few bucks. unless someone has a better suggestion...
