  1. if you bent valves id be suprised if you had any compression at all. maybe head gasket or scuffed pistons (stuck rings). were planning on race school Sat, then maybe having a go at 250 superbike on sunday.
  2. stock except for a full Leo Vince pipe. tires and race plastic next.
  3. from last weekend at the Beav. Great time, and the kid was having a ball and actually managed a 1:17.5 with that poor little bike screaming around the track. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uE6nHn5xcbI couple more track days, then maybe race school.
  4. they're stock cans, with reworked innards. i've got all the stuff written down somewhere, but basically it's gutted and replaced with a spiral perforated tube wrapped with SS 'wool' packing. i'll reply to your pm with details when i find em.
  5. me and my "ass on fire" will be there too. plus zack on his 250.
  6. considering buying one of these - http://www.xtracing.com/en/gpxpro/index.php its a bit spendy, but i think it would be cool as hell. probably very helpful for novice riders to see where they can go faster / losing time / taking wrong lines, and could help find those last few tenths for advanced riders.
  7. oh i forgot to mention, we get to take YOUR ride for a spin too. jk.
  8. my son raced quads since he was 6, then switched to dirt bikes at 14. we quickly realized we were waaaay behind on the learning curve. after trying supermoto, he was hooked. problem is there's really no racing. i found a '12 ninja for dirt cheap which although pretty anemic is perfect for getting this big track thing figured out. btw, his crf150r sumo setup will be for sale after memorial day weekend. and on a further side note, i'm all about growing this 250 racing thing. if anyone wants to run some laps on our bike at a trackday we happen to be at, let me know.
  9. from Todd on link above that's freeking awesome! my next message is to Todd, thanks for the hookup.
  10. Only from a Mac. My work and home windows machines won't let me log in. (??) Thanks for the racing info. Will def give motoseries a look. However we're not opposed to venues that might require some travel.
  11. We are no where near ready, but it would be nice to have a plan... All these track days are ultimately practice, for racing right. So, late this year I might consider letting the kid (16) loose. What class? What org? The bike is a ninja 250.
  12. Me and the kid should be there. Me in INT him in novice. How is the novice instruction with motoseries?
  13. im bringing my wool lined alpinestar track mittens jic.
  14. finished the bike, just in time for xmas! it'll sit till spring time when the trackday transformation begins!...
  15. ... i'll never forget the time driving in the moving traffic jam that leaves northern MI every Sunday afternoon - it was raining (I was in my car), but noticed two slowly moving bikes in the leftside berm from my rearview. They were BMW touring bikes and the second bike looked to be ridden by a women. About 100 ft ahead, just after the first rider had passed (presumably her husband), some self-righteous dickhead pulls out to block the second bike. She's stuck, and getting poured on. Her husband finally notices about 1/2 mile down and stops. I started to get out my car to have a "word" with the asshole that had her blocked, but my own wife advised against it given my mood. I was fit to be tied, and wouldve pulled that fucker from his car.
  16. thanks for the replies guys, i've been considering all those options as they come up. gonna keep my eyes peeled for a REALLY good deal on a trackbike (like an SV, or even an RS), but i'm not going to hurry it - he's still very much interested in Supermoto and 2012 may actually have a handful of local RACES (lack thereof has been the primary reason for wanted to jump into road-racing). I may have the opportunity to pick up a 2012 Ninja 250 for a few hundred bucks (dont ask), and may use that to introduce him to the track. I totally appreciate all the comments about closing speeds, and the fact the 250 is a complete dog. But its dirt cheap and easy to justify. We may end up only doing a couple trackdays and dumping the bike.
  17. your original post has 2500 on it, for the whole deal, dirt and supermoto. that right?
  18. i'm just getting into trackdays. this post was amusing at first, but now just pretty ridiculous. note to the OP: it's actually a pretty cool deal - have fun and dont sweat it.
  19. he's gotta start somewhere. and regardless of what he's on, he's unlikely to be topping out much over triple digits until at least the second or third outing. however, it sounds like when he IS ready, the Ninja just wont be enough. Think i'm gonna keep an eye out for an RS...
  20. thinking about it, but at 280 (guest, plus late reg fee), its almost too rich for my blood.
  21. Hey guys - give me some advice please, looking to pick up a reasonably priced track bike for my son this fall/winter/spring and looking for recommendations. Here's some details on the kid - he's 15 years old, 16 next june about 5-3, 110# (relatively small for his age) riding supermoto on a crf150r for last couple years and now faster than me on my 450; he's been racing since hes been about 5 (off road) bike to be used primarily for track days, unless he shows real interest/aptitude/etc for road racing Considering an Aprilia RS125 due to its weight and size, and Ninja 250 for its cost. Shying away from a 600 because i really want him to be comfortable on the bike and i am a strong believer in developing skills on a "slow" bike. thanks!
  22. i appreciate the OP's desire, and that's why i bought my Tuono. Handles nicely and wheelies like a supermoto if you want it to. quote i read the other day on the aprilia forum... "(the Tuono) will make a slow guy fast. A fast bike will make a slow guy dead."
