  1. i have complete respect and appreciation for the medical profession. my wife is a nurse, and i'll be the first to admit they arent paid enough for the work they do.

my issue is with the word 'negligence' which to me has the very negative connotation of ignorance. i realize that in the frenzy of an accident, decisions need to made quickly and they are not always the right ones. i get that. i just dont want to think that some harm come by letting 'negligent' people perform the most important job on the track.

i suppose the legal definition of the word is different, and it just means doing a wrong to cause harm. i guess thats ok given the context described above. it's just crazy how much much effort goes into avoiding accountability.

  2. My son and I are heading there next monday. He's only 16 so they sent me a "minor release and waiver". Six pages, but i glanced over it figuring it's pretty run of the mill stuff. But then some things caught my attention that got me pretty wound up.

First off, we've been involved in motorsports for years (10 for my son) and we're no stranger to danger, or injury, and accept those risks as our OWN responsibility. I've never had a problem signing a waiver.

The issue i've got with MidOhio's release is that it specifically includes rescue and medical personnel as a "Releasee", or individuals absolved from liability or recourse. THEN, (this is the part that chaps my ass) they go on to say that I need to release them from "negligent rescue operations and/or procedures" and that "INJURIES RECEIVED MAY BE COMPOUNDED OR INCREASED BY NEGLIGENT RESCUE OPERATIONS OR PROCEDURES OF THE RELEASEES".

I have a real problem with that word. I realize that the likelihood that their safety people are qualified is reasonably high, but it seems to give license to making mistakes. Is this typical wording? Should i be concerned? Just sign and notarize it and hope nothing bad happens? And if some 1st year medical student fucks something serious up, oh well???

  3. my son just got into it. pleasantly surprised at 11 bikes on the grid last time at Nelsons. i have personally not tracked it, but ABSOLUTELY a great class to develop your skills.

I was concerned about the closing speeds on trackdays, but can tell you that so far it's not been an issue - you know, the part where a 250 out brakes the 100hp bike and passes it mid corner...:p

  4. it is SOOOO easy guys (it only SEEMS intimidating at first), just do it. the best bike-related purchase I've made outside of the bike itself.

CAUTION: don't do it unless you are willing to give away all your extra money (and even non-extra). it will suck you in. after your first track day, one of two things will happen: you'll be head over heels in love wondering why its taken so long to do it and you'll become obsessed, or, you'll realize that you're a dilettante.

  5. Going to watch Friday practice only (cant do rest of weekend), but it seems you CAN'T buy a Friday-ONLY pass. I'd be willing to buy the full weekend general admission (70 bucks each x 2 people) if I can pawn off the tickets to someone who can use them Sat and Sun for a few bucks. unless someone has a better suggestion...

  6. Compression check is coming in at about 90 psu across the board, manual lists 178 psi. I checked all the plugs and they were good. Maybe the valve springs got weak and floated the valves causing them to get bent? I am going to do a leak down test on it tomorrow and see what I can find out. I had the valve cover off but it's hard to see anything since the valve springs are recessed in the head. The timing marks seem to be dead on which was also a thought. I thought that I could have jumped a tooth on the cam sprockets throwing the motor out of time and bending the valves. At this point I am going to do a leak down test and might just have to pull the head.

if you bent valves id be suprised if you had any compression at all. maybe head gasket or scuffed pistons (stuck rings).

were planning on race school Sat, then maybe having a go at 250 superbike on sunday.

  7. Not sure... He was all about putting motard wheels on the dirt bike, but now, after we cut a small track in the woods, he is wanting to stick with dirt. Possibly flat track, but not sure. He was on my ass about a 125 GP style bike and we might consider, but only with some experience at CRP or similar...

my son raced quads since he was 6, then switched to dirt bikes at 14. we quickly realized we were waaaay behind on the learning curve. after trying supermoto, he was hooked. problem is there's really no racing. i found a '12 ninja for dirt cheap which although pretty anemic is perfect for getting this big track thing figured out.

btw, his crf150r sumo setup will be for sale after memorial day weekend.

and on a further side note, i'm all about growing this 250 racing thing. if anyone wants to run some laps on our bike at a trackday we happen to be at, let me know.

  9. I-Zapp can finally post here. Guess someone got you sorted out.

Only from a Mac. My work and home windows machines won't let me log in. (??)

Thanks for the racing info. Will def give motoseries a look. However we're not opposed to venues that might require some travel.
