  1. Yeah, Edmunds.com says about $8800 for a clean Civic, private party (I did a blue LX sedan). I use Edmunds TMV for car price calculations... it's been my experience that KBB is usually 10-20% high.
  2. Timing belt right out of the gate if it hasn't JUST been done. The Civic is a 200k mile car, but with over 100k miles, maintenance items get expensive - struts will likely need done soon, brakes are likely (second time), tires soon (second time). The driveline should be fine, but consumables all come due around that mileage. Do a Google search for Honda transmission issues - I think they had the solenoid pack issue sorted out by 08 - I think that was earlier like 03. I assume automatic for your daughter. $9900 seems a bit steep for a 100k mile car. I'd think that would really sell closer to $7500 or $8k if it's nice.
  3. This - like I said in the PM, VW/Audi had some pretty major electrical issues during those years - not quite as bad as the late 90s (dash fires), but they had a ton of gremlins - expensive ones... If you get one, get a newer one, and if you get a newer one, you can afford a better car. Sorry to the VW faithful, but they'e had problems since they started running coolant through the engines in the 70s...
  4. All a tax lien sale does is give you title to the house. If there are still any encumbrances on it (mortgage), they go with the sale. You get the right to own the tax debt. You hedge your bets that you are buying a house worth more than the mortgage. The bank is doing the same thing, except they already own the debt.
  5. If they won't kill you they can be fun, yes.
  6. I'd be happy to go if I'm around. I know what to look at/for...
  7. Yeah, we're working with a $10k~ budget.
  8. Worked at Nissan during the years that you're looking at - Versas and Sentras are both decent cars, great cars for the money actually. Little to no problems with either - most problems I did see were with the front end - steering column (on the electric versions) and strut bushings. Noises, not safety stuff. The Cube is good too. The blind spot is actually on both sides and depending on driver height and seat position it can be not an issue or a real danger. They do have extra large side mirrors to help though. And they are CAVERNOUS inside. If I had the choice between the three as a rational decision, I'd get the Sentra - best mileage of the three and a better all around car. I like the looks of the Versa hatch better, but they cost a premium over the sedan. Any specific questions, PM me. Or hell, ask me here. No worries.
