  1. I'll have a seat eventually to recover - keep me posted how this all works out. It will be pretty simple, just a two piece cafe pad, but I want it done right.
  2. Yeah, I have a buddy who's going to help - we're just going to rent a Uhaul and pick it up I guess. Not really a big deal. Kind of an adventure - I've done it before with other bikes, not too bad at all. And it will be less that $50 all in, I'm sure.
  3. Glad to hear he's among the living - could have been a lot worse... Prayers sent.
  4. Yeah, I figured I'd roll it out of the guys driveway and then call - won't run right. I don't see anything on the AAA website about the RV coverage. Anyone have an idea of what it costs? Cheaper to just rent a UHaul?
  5. Hey guys - I have a AAA Plus membership. I am picking up a bike on Tuesday and I'd like to not ride it home. It has a crap rear tire, a bad intake pipe and I don't have any gear. Will AAA tow a bike?
  6. TrainDriver - yeah, I work out of Parsons, protect the C&O side, although I've been getting called for the Conrail stuff a lot since I'm one of the only ones on my side qualified to Avon. Speaking of which, off I go. See you on the rail, sir!
  7. Yeah, I work for CSX. Apply online - the school is through them. Kent - Most of the newer engines an even some older ones do have cameras. Sniper - I married in to a railroad family, so I had a better idea than most what I was getting in to. You're right, you make good money, you're just never home to spend it.
  8. Have you guys seen the video for Coldplay - Strawberry Swing? Very similar - done in stop motion with sidewalk chalk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb9X5jMofEo&ob=av3e Ben needs to show me how to embed the video. <--- Nevermind - does it on it's own. A fine website you have here, sir.
  9. Chevy - Close enough to complain about - lights flashing, gates down. Scorpion - I'm just a conductor now, not driving them yet. You go to a school for 6 weeks to train and then on the job for about 5 months. It's a fun job, but it's a lifestyle. You spend your life waiting for the phone to ring - no set schedule, really no days off. You have to have a very understanding wife/family - luckily, I married a railroader's daughter.
  10. Yeah, unless you know timing belt was done recently (12 mo, 12k miles), I'd do it. Money well spent on piece of mind.
  11. ... when I'm in my 16,000 ton train doing 40. Sorry to vent here, but you guys seem like a good forum to hear it. Twice in as many trips, I had a police car dart across the tracks in front of me. They both turned their lights on just before they went over and turned them off once they cleared. Now, I have nothing but respect for our men and women in blue, but all those lights mean to me on a train is that the explosion will be more colorful. Let's not make this a physics lesson, but 16,000 tons will not stop before I hit you, lights and sirens or not. And me hitting you in my train is like you hitting a bird in your car. I'll notice it, certainly. There may even be some crap on the windshield. But it's not going to hurt me (though it will most likely kill you), and it most certainly won't hurt my engine which weighs 468,000 pounds and is designed to plow its own snow at 20 mph in the winter. Sorry for the rant. That is all
  12. I used to traval out West a lot for work. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I ALWAYS got delayed at DFW. I would recommend either Phoenix or Vegas - both have direct flights, both have Southwest. I always landed on time or early with Southwest, especially flying east. Hope this helps!
  13. That really does look good - especially considering you did it on the front walk. $9 well spent.
  14. I've bought a number of bikes off craigslist myself. You just have to know what you're looking at and not be afraid to make an offer. I've had people accept some pretty low ones.
  15. I'll have to give them a shout - I need all new gear.
  16. Alienpi is right - if a battery is completely dead, you almost need to give it a boost first. Maybe leave it hooked up to a running vehicle (monitored of course) via jumper cables for a few minutes just to let the more powerful charging system help out. We used to do this when an automotie battery was doornail dead. Just don't go boil an egg while this is going on - you need to be there to watch both batteries to make sure they don't pop.
  17. Man, I feel like at least a double if not triple nerd for liking this.
  18. I'm surprised it's as old as it is - 1939 seems pretty early for Plexiglass. Slick stuff!
  19. Speaking of frames - check the neck to make sure there are no cracks, and check where things are bolted on. Mine hada bolt pulled through where the subframe met the main hoop and I had to have a new tab welded on and tapped. I agree, if the frame is bad, walk away.

    Who am I?

I've been drawing the similarities between these two for several years now - strange, huh?
  21. Not only was this guy a Marine (thanks for his service), but he was a railroader too - CSX conductor based in Willard Terminal. Very sad.
  22. On of my bikes was a salvage I put back together. I agree with your thinking, you're not going to make money on it, much like cars, that salvage-rebuilt title is a stigma not many people want. But if you want to turn some wrenches and end up with a decent bike you can ride, you may save some money. Or at least break even and end up with exactly what you want. I ended up using a lot of carbon fiber and custom paint but only spent about what I would have just buying one off the street.
  23. Really like this build... finish it up!
  24. Really good looking bike - was the rear wheel swap a pain?
