Ah. They detuned them over the years to comply with noise and emissions regulations...later years had milder cams, different port design, etc... they also made improvements like big thick oil gallery seals instead of o rings and extra bolts in the rocker shafts.

The performance stats are pretty disapointing....74hp and 54 lbs torque. ...that's on par with a 30 yr old Jap i4.....so true harley as far as that goes...

What year is the motor you have mags?

Sweet. I have a spare stock bore cylinder, been pressure washed, bead blasted and honed, would make a good spare if you plan on really ragging this bike out or if you want to refresh the motor before you start your build. Got some other spare motor parts too....stock valves and springs, cam chain tensioner, cam....maybe other stuff.

What is the project? I know these motors inside out from soup to nuts.

Get an 1127 motor, pipe, jet and filter it and put it in your kat....super sleeper. This bike was chewing up most hardly ablesons with the stock motor...now I'm just going to embarrass them....I think all told in parts and machine work I'm just under $2k on this build...a ton of money for a 42 year old bike, but I like to build things....glad you appreciate my obsession.

Oh, and electric start is for pussies....and my starter solenoid is shot.

With stock carbs around 80hp/55 lbs torque. My dad has a set of mikuni smooth bores I'm gonna put on and those should get me closer to 90 horse...not bad when you consider the bike was like 60-65 stock.

And she runs....really well. Can't tell from the shitty phone mic but she sounds mean.

3rd gear on my b12 pulls good from 20 to 120. I generally keep it in 3rd in slow-ish traffic or 2nd if it's really slow. 4th for cruising surface streets, 5th for freeway. No 6th gear...zook decided it didn't need another gear...mainly because in stock trim it can't pull 5th to redline.

Got exhaust, oil can and carbs on. Gonna get plugs and a battery this week and get her Makin noise.
