  1. Define risk. What is acceptable for you might seem insane to others. You know there are lots of people who think motorcycles = death in normal circumstances. I had a friend that got killed there on Mad Sunday in 1997.
  2. Congrats on your 887. I looked at the 887 & 870, I have several hunting 870s at home, but wanted something really durable that I didn't have to worry about the finish with. The 887 looks perfect, like some sort of weapon from the future. I played around with a few 887s and really liked how they felt.....but I kept banging into my hand when chambering a round. The realease is way, way, WAY in the wrong spot. (at least for me) This is a huge problem with the 887...........for me & apparently bunch of other people. I could probably live with it for a skeet/trap gun, but the 870 won out for home defense, just because I am so familiar with it. Not that I'm a super cheapy, but for something just to bang around the farm I think this is pretty hard to beat. 7 round capacity, 18.5 inch barrel. Vance's had it for $300 + a $30 rebate......$270? Thanks, I'll take it. The bad part is I really liked a Sig Sauer M400 5.56, so I have a feeling the next time I go there I will not get out as cheaply as I did this time.
  3. I currently have a 1200GSA & really like it, but I might choose something else for an Alaskan trip. Something a little more simple & perhaps more robust, like a Wee-Strom. Might be a little different if money is no object, but it is a little hard to toss a $20K machine down the highway. Look at it this way. BMW 1200 Adventure $20K+ Wee Strom, disposable Alaska version $8K Wee Strom, shiny new one to replace the one you beat the hell out of in Alaska $8K Trip money $4K There, you have spent $20K either way. Would your adventure or experience be different on either bike? Perhaps.............is it worth the difference? FWIW, I'm pretty sure I will be buying an S10 sometime in the next year or so. It is simply a killer machine.
  4. Thanks all. I do ride a sportbike from time to time, but it is mostly just a garage queen. I have found riding DP bikes helps to keep your speed within somewhat legal boundries. Looking forward to checking out some of the roads up in the Amish area. What is up with those pretty maps? What do the colors mean?
  5. New guy. Grew up in Columbus, but moved away 20 years ago. Moved to Ohio, the Sparta/Fredericktown area, in July. Mostly ride adventure bikes & commute, but also ride off-road & sport. Pretty much enjoy & appreciate anything with two wheels. SCOTT
