Not looking for a long haul bike unless it is a full replacement for the couch. Going to look for that in the fjr. The second ride is to start finding a bike for plan b, which is general hooliganism if plan a fails.

This looks to be a good deal. Advertised on cycle trader as out the door price. Don't think you would be happy with the fz07. Did not do much to excite me. A trunk and soft luggage and this would be a nice gap trip scoot. Can't make the trip Friday. Wife has plans for Saturday and I have many chores to get done on Friday.

  2. X-Grip works very well. Never had issues. Use it for iPhone and sattlite radio . I also have that stem mount on  the Super Hawk. Some issues. The cone piece needs cut to fit the hole in stem which is not a problem. My issue was that it was more like plastic than rubber and does not want to stay tight. The little screw is not strong enough to compress it as it should. One day I'll find a softer rubber plug and repair that issue.  Maybe they have changed that or I just got a bad one.  I would buy it again.

Where abouts on Rt197??  Wife and I plan to ride it Friday, and rather NOT have ANY oh-shit-moments if I can help it.  We're running the section between 76 & 356

I think we are talking different rt. 197's. This is the route we took. If you google map "Pensacola NC." This will pop up and you can zoom in. When you do you will see the photo box to the left of the switch backs click it and it shows the gravel road. Like bubba said you can street view it as well. We road yours today. Nice road.  Have a safe trip.

  4. Safe trip everyone. Doc and I had a great day yesterday. Stayed in Asheville last night. Only one oh shit moment . On rt 197. Best ever set o switchbacks ever for me. I think like six in a row.  Then blasting up the mountain I crested and the pavement ended. No markers. No signs. Just a shit ton of gravel. ABS saved our asses I do believe. Only place I saw mention is on Google earth. Some dude posted a picture. I flippin love it down here. The little VStrom is one capable bike. No regrets in the purchase .

    China is on the road.

Spending tonight at a fellow ADV's place south of Columbus, and then deciding tomorrow which direction to head south.

If I head SE like usual, strong chance of hitting heavy T Storms both Sat and Sunday

If I head SW towards say Paducah KY, I can miss most of it Sat, and then Sunday will be chasing the storms East from behind them.

Forecast for the Gap area is the best I have seen in years before leaving on a trip down there.

Dude. How did you get out of work so early?  Safe journey Dan.
