  1. I've wondered how alcohol could be considered essential. Is it if the liquor store sells food items it just also sells whatever else is in the store as well? Just curious.

Alcoholics are going to either 1) place more burden on hospitals when they get withdrawal and DT 2) violate the order or steal their booze anyway

  2. I take all the stuff I see with a grain of salt. The health care is aggressive because they are trying to keep people safe, I get that. Others are downplaying everything because they want the economy to restart and get going again. I just with there were more facts and some middle ground out there.

Yeah, more infection testing being done and hopefully mass antibody testing soon is greatly needed. Lack of info is bad.

  3. Study in Germany of a town suggested 15% of the pop had antibodies already. This implies quite a bit more than the testing gave. Could be other variables but leads me to believe the virus isn't all that bad on it's own towards the population as whole.

Still means need mitigate it so hospitals do not get overrun and people die from other things that normally wouldn't, etc. But means we may not have to keep the measure up for as long as some are saying.

  4. We all know that China is under reporting their data but this is freaking nut, 21 millions cellphone disappeared

Yeah cause the first thing dead people do is cancel their mobile plant.

  5. It's not just China, there are several countries that are seeing a decrease in the number of new cases -- meaning they've stopped the exponential spread. South Korea is one of them.

That's it in a nutshell -- testing. We're all on lockdown right now because we don't know who's infected. Every one of us is a potential carrier, so we've had to grind our economy to a halt in order to stop it. Other countries are light years ahead of us in terms of testing infrastructure and so they're able to allow non-infected people back to work and only quarantine the sick.

We'll get there eventually, but we're like 2 months behind South Korea in terms of being able to ramp up enough test kits. There are, of course, reasons why we're behind the curve on test kits, but those reasons have been covered in previous posts in this thread.

SK had two major infection zones and that was it. It's spread all over the USA, nearly randomly. Also the USA is a hell of a lot bigger than SK. Comparing to SK, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore isn't a fair comparison.

On the other hand comparing USA to Italy isn't fair either. I see a lot of "we're 2 weeks behind Italy"... yeah in total numbers, but as individual states are are way behind Italy.

  6. I found some comfort in logging out of Facebook and not looking at news today. I've been transformed overnight into a home school teacher for 3. That's my focus now. This all will blow over. The duration of that is my concern.

This. I'm only going to check the news like twice a day. It's getting very tiring.

  7. Engine failure due to a missile shredding it is still engine failure.

Russian missiles basically shoot ball bearings all over. American ones make an expanding ring of steel rods to cut up planes.

Some people (internet sleuths...) were pointing out the early pictures of the wreckage had fuselage riddled with small holes. Like a swarm of high speed ball bearings tearing through the plane.

  8. I am going to get shit for this but why are you worried about your credit score right now? Are you planning on buying something big in the near future? If no, then don’t worry about it.

Congrats on paying off your debt. It is an awesome feeling. Now you can pile up cash and invest. Without debt and more money you shouldn’t need to borrow so the credit score will not matter. I have one credit card and a debit card. I use the cc for online purchases and cash or the debit for everything else. My credit score is good but I am not planning on buying anything I need credit for so I am not worried about it going up or down. Good luck.

Credit score affects other things beyond borrowing money

  9. Let the loan ride for longer than 6 months. 18 months perhaps. Depends on what your credit goals are. Check with the auto loan that there isn't an early payoff penalty also.

CapitalOne Auto might be worth checking out right now, to see a ballpark of where your APR may fall. Their pre-approval doesn't initiate a hard credit check so will not ding your credit score.

  10. So not even a week ago they were mad because Trump was a totally unhinged warmongering murderer that was going to start World War 3 through reckless military action.

Now they're mad because he didn't retaliate with military action.

Almost like they take a contrarian point to what Trump does or doesn't do.

  11. Get a decent high entry/low-mid M1911. Likely a Dan Wesson Vigil, maybe the CCO version. Been without a M1911 for too long now.

Actually take the AR-15 I bought last year out to shoot. Haven't even fired it yet.

  12. How old is it? What generation of i7? Before AMD's ass raping of Intel the last couple years, most of the enterprise grade i7's were only dual core with hyper threading and low end onboard GPU's to match.

I fought this battle with out of touch boomer IT management for a long time. They were always like "But its an i7, thats plenty for _______ !", not realizing or not caring that when it comes to mobile CPU's, the name means literally nothing as there were like a dozen SKU's for every generation.

Shouldn't be as much of an issue with something manufactured after the AMD curb stomping, but for sure any level discrete GPU would do marvelous.

    6600U with 520HD.

Sounds like we have the same IT department...

  13. Depending on the complexity of the models you are looking at and the CAD software you are using, for the most part CAD isn't that demanding in 2019. Most potato GPU's can do it just fine.

Not sure about that. I have an HP Elitebook from work and CAD lags a bit on it. It's an I7 with no discrete GPU. Any laptop with a modern discrete GPU will probably do okay however.
