  1. He's not totally wrong, though. A lot of IT fields that I have seen out there look for experience. They could care less about a degree. Certifications seem to carry more weight than degrees, as far as I can see. Don't get me wrong, I bet a degree in the IT field helps a bit as well... I don't have a degree yet, but people jump all over me due to my military background with IT. That being said, the military is a great way to get your "foot in the door" in the IT industry, because it's experience, and that seems to be what companies are looking for more than degrees. That being said, my wife is working on finishing her degree. Why? She can't get promoted without it. Which is dumb, because she already does the job that requires the degree, but HR simply won't budge. MUST have the degree, they said. Oh well, three classes left for her, all online. Too bad it hasn't taught her anything, and I do most of her homework and tests for her, and if not me, Mr. Google helps a lot!
  2. Hate to do this to you, but... http://www.snopes.com/science/microwave/plants.asp
  3. On a semi related note, how cool would this be? I hope my visions for the future pan out...
  4. Sir, are you two still negotiating the surround sound unit? I am interested if it is still up for grabs.
  5. No one has any comments on this? Arizona sure is mad... http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-jan-brewer-obama-immigration-20120615,0,18431.story Edit: I don't understand the term "illegal immigrant". Is it illegal, or not? Maybe it should be reworded or something. Unauthorized Foreigner maybe? I dunno...
  6. It's so wrong, yet so hilarious...
  7. Scuba, try this: http://www.newberrygroup.com/Job-Opportunities.aspx?page=view Then find the Systems Administrator job in Columbus, Oh. They will probably start at 45-50k with no clearance, since they will have to sponsor you and whatnot. Once you get that TS clearance, though, many many doors will open for further advancement.
  8. On a related note, Happy Birthday Army! 237 years of tradition and service! People may not agree with what we do in the armed forces, and many military members feel the exact same way. But most of us volunteered, and whether we like what we do or not, we are obligated to do it. I have been in 12 years. It's rather amazing to me to see people in the military get so hostile when they have to deploy. You sure are more than willing to take the enlistment bonus, or the GI Bill, or the scholarships, free training, medical benefits, and the myriad of other things the military gives you, but you freak out at having to uphold your end of the bargain. The military is not a free ride. Sure, some people skate by without ever doing more than training, but for the majority, we have a job that needs to be done, whether we want to or not.
  9. So... odd. What country do they hail from? And the perpetual boner, really?
  10. Haha, they never asked me those kinds of questions... Of course, through the military, I have had a Secret clearance for a long time now, so that may have played into it.
  11. I will have to do it when I get it back from Mr. Hoblick, he's fixing it up for me!
  12. I wish my grass were emo, then it would cut itself...
  13. Well, I consider it entry level... It's a glorified helpdesk, although my title is "Network Administrator". Mostly, I reset passwords all day... Just gotta have a Top Secret security clearance! =)
  14. Thank you! Got it for cheap from a buddy who wanted to upgrade. And I see you are a fellow Blacklickian. I should change my location to be more specific...
  15. DISA (Defense Information Systems Agency)
  16. Hey all. My name is Jason, and I am new to the site. I only learned about it from a friend I work with who told me to go to Mr. Hoblick to fix my motorcycle (2005 Suzuki GS500F). While telling me about Shop Dog Cycles, he mentioned that he was a member of Ohio Riders, which I promptly Googled. To my dismay, it was blocked where I am employed, so I joined as soon as I got home... About me: Extreme n00b on a bike. Just got my permit last month, been riding every day since. Since the courses are booked till Septemberish, I am going to attempt to do a walk-in and see where that gets me when I get some time. I am more of a lurker than a poster, but you may see my name pop up here and there. Till then, have a good one, and ride safe!
  17. Bath Salts? I know we just met, but your face looks tasty...
  18. Wow, what kind of salary are you looking at? You need to come to Columbus... I'm about as entry level as you can get when it comes to IT, skillwise, and I started at 60k a year doing far less than what you do. There are IT jobs galore down here.
  19. Hmmm, lots of Sprint hate I see. Maybe I am biased, but I have been with Sprint for about 10 years now, with a brief stint with Cincinnati Wireless (BAD idea. Roaming charges in CINCI? Wtf?). I have an unlimited everything plan, and have very few connection and signal issues. The only place I do have problems is McConnelsville, where my National Guard unit is. No problem there, I just turn on my data roaming and I use whatever towers are down there, and I don't get any charges anyways. I have priced out my plan versus AT&T and Verizon, and they simply don't give me the value for the money like Sprint does. The only real downside to Sprint that I can see is their lack of really cool phones, although that has been changing lately with their iPhone and the phone I got, the Moto Photon. Anyways, just wanted to chime in, this is a fun discussion! =)
