BUMP! Want to be an advanced rider? There are still advanced rider courses available for this riding season. Do it! Do it! Do it! https://ext.dps.state.oh.us/MotorCycleOhio/Pages/Public/CourseSelection.aspx . -

Where's Cleveland? Never heard of it. Here ya go, whippersnapper. Definitely do this. You won't have to take the skills test after you pass the Basic Riders Course. http://www.motorcycle.ohio.gov/ Nice bike, by the way. Be careful on it. There are plenty of MSF classes in your neck of the woods. You're probably going to need a Wed or Thu 6-10 pm free to go with the following Sat & Sun. Just a few examples: 7/23/2014 - 7/27/2014 Wednesday(7/23) 06:00 PM - 10:00 PM; Saturday(7/26) 07:30 AM - 01:30 PM; Sunday(7/27) 07:30 AM - 01:30 PM 7/24/2014 - 7/27/2014 Thursday(7/24) 06:00 PM - 10:00 PM; Saturday(7/26) 07:30 AM - 01:30 PM; Sunday(7/27) 07:30 AM - 01:30 PM .

Take this image and put a barrel on it, and a hand grip. The sticker can then read.....are you ready? "GOT GLOCKENSPIEL?" .

Later, he may want to get gas. http://youtu.be/X9h-ylsbSDY .

Hahaha! I saw that after I posted. .

If you are searching for a OhioRiders member under the "Community > Members" tab, above, be prepared to weed through 11 1/2 pages of numbered screen names before you get to the A-B-C screen names. Just an interesting observation. .

Great answers. Keep 'em coming. .

I want to plot my desired route out on the road, like I do on Google Maps when I drag the route to the path I desire. I can't do that with the app I have. I do need a mount and a bluetooth device. I usually charge my phone via USB while riding. I'll try using my navigation app in the car with my Jawbone bluetooth to see if I can hear it talk to me. .

Thanks Ben. I need a good torque wrench. Digital wrenches seem to be the way to go considering you can read footpounds, inchpounds, and newtons per meter, all in one wrench. That's like three for the price of one. .

My suggestion is to destroy the items beyond the point that they could be sold, before giving them to the insurance company. Take pictures of the damaged areas and send a copy of them with the items so that it can be seen that they are the same items. Furthermore, in regards to this >> But Mitch Wilson of the Ohio Insurance Institute said insurance companies can dispose of property however they like.<< The Ohio Insurance Institute is not the governing authority over insurance companies operating in Ohio. They only represent the insurance industry. So, this Mitch Wilson can go piss up a rope. The Ohio Department of Insurance is the governing authority. They license agents, and they are who you go to if you have a complaint about your insurance company. They keep those crooks in line. They should have been contacted about this issue from day one. But, good on our "just_some_dude" (Chris Roblee) to take this to the extent that he did. Still, I would love to see the state Department of Insurance get involved in this. I'm not even in it and I'm still pissed about what this agent did, and what that insurance company allowed to happen. http://www.insurance.ohio.gov/Pages/default.aspx .

These were some of the issues I read about. The newer units are buggy and the customer service sucks. Routes mapped on a PC didn't "take" on the device, and neither did the ones mapped out on the fly. The device would override your choices. I don't want to be the beta tester for these companies for what these things cost. And I don't want to be on hold for customer service for an ungodly amount of time only to find that their solution is for me to package the whole thing up and send it back to them. I forgot to ask about using them with gloved hands, and screen sizes. A larger screen would be nice to have. .

The bike is also going to need tires, not from miles, but from age. I would be nervous about a supersport with aged rubber. .
-
Looks good, except for those Kawasaki colored ball bearings. .

I can also cruise around in 6th gear at 35 mph, as long as I'm on a level road. With no gear indicator, I sometimes forget to count shifts and end up looking for a 7th gear. .

Okay. It's time for me to consider a GPS device. I currently get on Google maps and write on paper the roads I want to travel. It's a long and drawn out process, writing the direction to turn, how far to the next turn, the names of towns/villages to look for, and the route numbers, i.e. OH-555, etc. Then I put my directions in the map pocket of my tank bag and refer to them at each turn of my route. Some days there is more than one page of directions. I can only get all of this information from my home computer. What if I want to change my route in the middle of my ride? Yesterday I sat at a picnic shelter mapping out a route with my smart phone. I couldn't get the distance between points, and on my ride I never knew how far away the next turn was. So, I rode until the route appeared. It was not a good feeling not knowing how far I had to ride until the next turn, in places that were unfamiliar to me. Also, I have to calculate what my mileage reading will be at the next turn. Sometimes I'm off by two or three miles and have to second guess myself, which is a little uncomfortable out there in nowhere land when daylight moves to the other side of the earth. Plus, I can't see my directions in the dark. I'm ready for a better way. I've tried looking through reviews and all that. What I've determined is that everything out there is junk and customer service sucks. Yes, I read the lower rated reviews. I want to know what kind of problems I can have for the money I'm going to spend. Tell me what works for you. What is the best motorcycle GPS unit short of the $800 BMW type? I don't want to spend anything close to that. How do you mount your device? Are you happy with that setup? What do you use to hear your device talk to you? I have a bluetooth earpiece for my phone. I can't wear it with a helmet. What bells and whistles do you have with your device? XM radio? Weather radio? FM radio? Other goodies? What do you not like about the device you have? Can you see the display in the bright sunlight? What about riding in the rain? Is it weather proof? What did I not know to ask? What else can you tell me.Consumer Reports, Consumer Digest, and all those other reviewers never ask the questions I want the answers to. So, I'm asking those who know. I'm asking you. Thanks for all your input. .

It was good to meet you guys today (actually yesterday, now). I took my own ride into southern Ohio and into WV. It was midnight when I walked into the house. Do you know what an experience it is to ride Wayne National Forest after dark? Yesterday the little GS broke 8000 miles. Now it has almost 8500. I just had two days of riding twisties, and well worth taking off work for. Tomorrow, I'm not even getting out of bed. I don't think I'll be able to move.

I gave those Avon's a workout today. Road the bike like it's tail was on fire, with the NEO fast boys, down in SE Ohio. It was nice having confidence in quality tire and not feeling like I needed to restrain myself. It's the hardest I have ridden and the tires stuck like glue. I had my toe under the shifter, in a corner and felt the road while I was leaned over. I thought that was cool. .

If they came in my size I would have put MICHELIN Pilot Road 4 on my GS. I don't speak spanish, but if you have 3 1/2 minutes to spare, it's this video that sold me. http://motorcycle.michelinman.com/tires/michelin-pilot-road-4-gt I just had tires put on my bike. I asked and got great advice. Here's the thread in case there's something in it that you can use. http://ohioriders.net/index.php?/topic/104909-i-need-tire-advice/

NinjaDoc and I took I-77 N out of Caldwell. I branched off onto I-70 W and Nivin continued on. I pulled into the driveway around 5 pm. Just finished messing with my gear, reorganizing the saddlebags, and bedding down the bike for the night. I hope everyone makes it home okay. Sorry about the sick DUC. It was a day worth taking off work for. Yee Haw! Hunger is making a visit, so off to Chipotle I go. . .

Okay, checked it out. No Worries.

I don't know the route we are riding, Saturday. I'm starting in Millersburg. Do you know the route? .
