  1. I talked to the owner of the same shop from this thread. He is very interested in doing this. What Saturday forks best for people? 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. Saturday of the month? He will pick 2 cigars by the same company that are different and explain each cigar and their differences/similarities. They have a great seating area, 2 large flat screens, a great selection of cigars and supplies, Kuerig machine and a mini fridge with drinks. They are located in historic Westerville which provides good food choices and shopping for the better half while we waste the night away.

If a mod could make a survey for which Sat of the month, It would be great.

  2. Yesterday I lost the man, ma father, who has made me who I am today. I am relieved that he no longer has to endure the pain that he had to recently.

Thomas Wesley Gerlach, Sr., 55, Seven Hills, Ohio passed away on February 7, 2012.

Tom was born in 1956 in Jackson, Michigan to Bruce, Sr. and the late Lisbeth Gerlach. He studied Law Enforcement at Northwestern Michigan College. He married Jayne (Lundy) in 1978 and they lived in New Mexico and Michigan before moving to Ohio. Tom devoted his life to helping people, professionally as a police officer, sheriff's deputy, firefighter and emergency medical technician and personally as a great friend and family member. It wasn't uncommon for someone to come up to him at a store and say something like, Do you remember me? You saved my life or you saved my sister's life or you were at my accident and you were so kind to me.

Tom often spoke fondly of growing up on Miller Ave in Ann Arbor and all the wonderful neighbors that made it a real "Leave It to Beaver" community. As a father himself, he carried that feeling into helping coach soccer, leading Boy Scouts, being active in Mitchell Elementary School PTO, etc. He worked the midnight shift at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for many years, thus allowing him to be the one his boys came home to after school.

He loved cars and could identify the make and year of most cars at a glance. He owned 22 cars before he turned 22 and only slowed down when the fiscal responsibilities of a family required it. He saved friends and family countless dollars by giving advice or actually fixing cars. Maybe it is because of the hours spent working on cars and hours spent in public safety that his oldest son works in automotive research and his youngest is a police officer.

You could always count on Tom's humor and quick wit to lighten the mood. Tom loved to tease and his deep laugh was contagious. Those who loved Tom laughed often. He also had a strong love for animals. He said that without Jayne's common sense the two of them might have become the dog and cat people you hear sometimes about on the news.

Tom is survived by his wife, Jayne of Seven Hills, Ohio; sons, Thomas, Jr. (Christy) of Marysville, Ohio; Trevor (Brianna) of Muskegon, Michigan, brother, Bruce, Jr. (Beckie) of Clinton, Michigan and father, Bruce Sr. of Clinton, Michigan. He will also be missed by his nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous friends.

The Celebration of his Life will be held Saturday, February 11, 2012 with visitation at 10:00 a.m. followed by the service at 11 a.m. at Charles J. Burden & Son Funeral Home, 1806 E. Michigan Avenue, Jackson, Michigan. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery.

In honor of Tom, please find a way to "pay it forward" today.

  3. not to be too personal, but why do you only work 32 hours a week if it is not enough?

My guess is like many employers, AZ does this and doesn't pay him benefits. My employers are finding it is cheaper to have 5 part-time employees with no benefits then 4 full-time employees with benefits.

  4. How can you be found guilty of 21 violations as a sherrif and allowed to be an officer of the law somewhere else? Doctors lose their license to practice medicine, why is an officer different?

I don't agree with it but, they were departmental violations and not laws. I would be interested in what they were.

  5. I've considered that, but I'm going to have a hard time justifying throwing away 10-14k over 2 years to walk away with nothing. Wouldn't be too bad if there are some cheaper places though. I'm definitely afraid of this because I'm almost certain that I will not be able to sell if need be.

Just for an idea of the Marysville market, I payed $115k and I am now valued at $70k. My parents house has been on the market for almost 7 months. They have only had one repeat viewing, have dropped the price $15k and that was after sinking $20k into getting it ready to sell (level concrete patio, finish kitchen remodel, repaint EVERY wall and ceiling basement and garage included, remodel 1.5 bath in to 2 bath, new carpet, etc).

  6. why not rent a place for a while---condo/apartment. get an idea of where you want to live, and make it happen in 1-2 years. nothing worse than getting all excited about a new location and finding out

1--you don't like the job, or have moved on to another job and are stuck with a 'vacation house' in a shithole town

2--you'd rather live somewhere else in town, or on the outskirts of town

Marysville sucks and Honda is up and down the last few years. I bought a house in '05 and wish I wouldn't have. The market sucks out here, there is no social life and the service industry destroys every restaurant that comes to town. I work next to the R&D plant and live near the fairgrounds. That is a 13 minute commute in good weather/traffic. (Just a rough distance guide for you)

  7. Couch to 5k is a good app for Android. It starts you out walking then running for different lengths until it gets you to running the full 5k.

I also hit an all time high over the Holidays. I have been loosely following the Sacred Heart Diet. I did it Wed - Fri last week. Was unable to over the weekend because of travel and I am back on it this week. I have lost 7 lbs in a week.
