    horses for courses.

What are your typical ride lengths and how many rocks/roots? Are your legs strong enough to ride out of the saddle to soak the bumps most of the time?

I've had full susp for 20 years and wouldn't consider a hard tail as my only bike compared to an upper end dual susp.

Just getting started into mtn biking. bought an old 26" to start and really like it. But that bike is really heavy and a tad too small.

Last year i did mostly shorter rides, roughly an hour. Mostly at royalview which has lots of roots and some rocks. In which i rode out of the saddle for most of.

I'd like to travel to more places this year.

  2. I know it all comes down to personal preference. But i'm torn between which direction to go.

I was pretty much set on a Roscoe 8 but found a 2016 Trek Fuel EX 8 for $1,000.

Looks pretty clean. Would probably change up to a 1X setup but could easily with the money saved.

    Thoughts?

  3. I currently wear the Pro L2 Evo. No complaints with it at all but i also haven't tested its protection properties yet. Fits good under my leathers and stays mostly in place. I have to push it down while putting the suit on but i think that is the same with most back protectors.

Before that i had the A* track vest. I liked it better in terms of fit and staying in place but did not fit under my new leathers (went from 2-piece to 1-piece). It was also much warmer compared to just the back protector even in 20 minute sessions.

Pretty sure noon the day before is the cutoff for early registration. So that would be Friday at noon for a Monday track day.

It's one of these guys I believe. I've used it like 2 times. My friends have used it maybe 2-3 times. Make me an offer.

Exact ramp i use with my HF trailer. It's great build quality and i ride the bike right up it since it's wide enough to put your feet down. Once in the trailer i put the TRS down and slide right into place.

  6. I towed to the track for many years in a Scion xB (the bigger second version). It was never tow rated in the US but had a 1,600lb rating in Austrailia. I figured it was good enough.

No issues at all with the bike and gear. I probably only had about 80-100lb of tongue weight. I would pick it up and pull the trailer to the car in the mornings.

I tried 800lbs of topsoil once and it did not like that. Glad I only had to go about 10 miles. It was constant tug/pull the whole way, could never get it settled down.

  7. DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!

I will not be joining you guys on the 2nd. Just got an x-ray on the shoulder and it hasn't healed much since April. The Dr. is going to try to get me set up with a bone stimulater machine. She isn't sure if i will get approved for it though. Either way I go back in 3 months. By that point, it will be healed up as much as it's going to get and i'll get the all clear to resume all strenuous activities.

So track riding and mountain biking are out for all of summer. Who wants to buy 4 gift certs!!!!  I'll need to check to make sure they are still good for 2 years and i'll use them next year.

  8. My shoulder x-ray and Dr. appt was canceled today. Scheduled for Friday afternoon now so i won't be able to register if i get the all clear. Hopefully there will be walk-up spots available.

his is all dependent on my shoulder finally being healed up. I did feel some slight ache in it about two weeks ago so i'm not getting my hopes up too high.

  9. I tried scuba in a swimming pool just to try it out and I couldn't get comfortable. I'm sure part had to do with the shitty equipment we were using. But i couldn't get over the fact you couldn't just stand up for air if something happened.

Why so long, its been like 3 months already hasn't it?

It happened on 2/10. It was a pretty large fracture, not just a hairline. Over the first four weeks it looked like it closed up about half way. X-ray at week 10 showed no change since week 4. They are not really sure what's going on. I go back end of June to see how it's progressing. I really don't know the next step if it's not healing. Doctor said they usually don't plate Scapula's since they are completely surrounded by muscle.  But also Scapula fractures are pretty rare and not much literature about it out there. This was the first case my physical therapist has seen in her 25 year career.

This is a pic of the original X-Ray on 2/11. Yes i tried to sleep it off thinking it was just a sprained muscle.
