  1. I haven't done many of these, but you use a vacuum gauge to set base timing. Max vacuum is where you want base timing, then most aftermarket dizzys allow you to make mechanical adjustments inside the dizzy to change how far it can advance, and sell you different springs to change the mechanical advance curve. Vacuum advance is there for decent economy and part throttle drivability. Not sure what your question was, you may already know this, but I'm posting it anyway. Edit: nevermind on the vacuum thing, I'm thinking of the carb
  2. I took it all the way down to where it ends just before the Ohio river. It is pretty much the same all the way down. I was just on the 555 for about an hour and a half, and I was giving it as much as I could in the rain. No other road I've been on in Ohio compares, there are some nice roads around but not to that level with the blind hills, blind turns, and endless twisties. I thought about taking some other road back up, but after my trip I had it out of my system and cruised back up 33 out of Athens. It's pretty cool what you learn about a car doing something like this. What i learned was how neutral a Miata is in stock form. It is underpowered for some of the hills, but overall a blast. I also realized that it would take a total package of mods in order to improve the Miata so that it would stay neutral, because thats how I like things. A little more power would be nice so i could produce a little oversteer but thats not what a Miata is for.
  3. Glad you did it, I had a blast on that road. How far down did you go, all the way?
  4. Why? Its very likely thats what I'll drive, though it isn't shit to look at.
  5. Doesn't matter to me, I'm going regardless if Clay starts a thread.
  6. Yes, its a Mother's product. Got some at Jeg's, if you have a good coat of wax on the car before hand this stuff takes rubber off really well. Even without wax it takes it off with a few applications. Honestly in the past when I have a hard time getting shit off, tar, rubber, whatever I use a little gasoline on a rag. Then clean well and wax.
  7. Amazingly similar. http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp133/ND2RACE/broken/CIMG0272.jpg Then there's these http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp133/ND2RACE/broken/CIMG0132.jpg http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp133/ND2RACE/broken/CIMG0236.jpg
  8. He lives right around the corner from me, so if you're out here?
  9. Lol. $16k is a little off the $500 price tag on OP's offer.
  10. Why do you have such a hard on for these cars? Do you realize that you're in the minority? How old was yours when you got it and how much did you have to pay?
  11. The same one who welded that? I have a whole Photobucket album of broken pics.
  12. Can you just take the wheel to a reputable place and just stick them with the bill?
  13. When it comes to reliable there isn't much of anything for $500, but he asked for opinions of this car, so we gave them. His post didn't lead me to beleive he just wanted a beater, if he just wants to use it till it goes pop fine.
  14. I'd think about buying one with a small diesel, but the quality would have to be on par with the bigger trucks. The current Colorado is just as nice as an Aveo, fucking junk. Of course if it looks like the picture that won't help it either.
  15. Northstar engine, not only is everything a bitch to work on, they are bad about head gaskets. Some stuff is just goofy like the starter under the intake, but a lot of parts are overpriced just because its a Cadillac, and everything is tight in the engine bay making it a pain to do much. If want a $500 car thats reliable this wouldn't be it.
  16. Kind of on the fence about this one. Its not that I can't afford it, but I hate parting with my money because if I go I want to spray the guts out of the car. decisions, descisions............
  17. Nice vid, you got me running Paul's bike. Something I'm not very good at, so don't think Paul sucks at it, its me.
  18. Glad the guy with the GoPro was so slow, and was paying enough attention to stop. Would have really sucked to have involved another car, look forward to see what happens now. Glad you're okay.
  19. Couldn't tell you, but there are some happy people there.
  20. None of these things go together very well, things that tow well, have a big back seat so they are comfortable, don't usually get good gas mileage or are fun to drive. So things that aren't trucks or SUVs, because I don't think trucks are really fun to drive, doesn't leave shit. Maybe you should look into Rav4s and CRVs, or maybe some Subaru. Personally nothing I think would be enjoyable to own fits your requirements.
  21. You've really come a long way with this year's set up, and you've driven better every time I've seen you run. 10s won't be easy but I'm sure you'll eventually get there.
  22. I have a pair of Nitto Invo 245-40-18 about half worn, bring me some Bud Select and you can have. A 6 pack would do it.
  23. Glad Ray is okay. Can't tell form the pics posted how bad it is, but if it's that bad I can understand getting a different roller. Sucks, I'm sure ray is taking it better then I would.
  24. I sure wouldn't mind helping out. You find all the info we'd need, torque specs and clearences ect, and I can come with experience and some of the tools needed. We could tackle the project however you want, on the cheap or cover all the bases, whatever you want to do. Of course I prefer to fully freshen the block and head with a machine shop, we could do a good inspection in your garage and see if we can get away with a simple deglazing and clean up, your choice. Let me know if I can help.
