It is an '82. Do you know if all of the '82s have the reduced effect (50hp) motor? And do all of the '82s have gas adjust front forks?

Found a super nice looking xj650 maxim outside of akron for $750. Supposedly it's had the same owner for the last 20 years, has 20k on the clock and they have receipts for maintenance. I guess I'm going on a drive this weekend. I found a Honda cb650 roughly same condition, price, and area but I haven't got a return message yet. Somebody tell me why they love (or hate) the xj?

Should we organize two separate events? I hate to think of splintering the "EPIC RIDE" but if safety and road conditions are that great a concern I'm open to options. Did we just get lucky last year because I thought the roads, weather, and traffic were perfect. What were the reasons for the original schedule? And back to safety, what can we do to prevent last years accidents?

I volunteer to be a gopher! I'm still just a novice rider and am pretty much in awe of the organization and insight of group leads on even short, casual rides. I would really like to see this come together, but am not sure what I can do.

Hey, are we doing the event again this year?

Called on the xj, didnt sound super promising. The owner has done anything to it besides paint it primer black, and doesnt really know anything about bikes. I went and looked at the gs450gl. I really liked it EXCEPT it was burning oil out of a coupling in the exhaust, and I couldn't seem to find neutral even with my hand. Other than those two faults I would have made them an offer. It could just be a goofy neutral indicator switch, i didn't ride it to really get a sense for what it was doing. Ill post some pics of the engine, and maybe some of you sages could point me to a member or thread where I should direct questions about old UJM's.

That's good info, thank you. Is it difficult to replace?

That bike in Dayton looks interesting, though a bit big. And I don't disagree on the issue of budget, but that's where I'm at right now. The plan is for him to buy the bike off of me once the divorce is finalized. I don't have that much extra cash, and I'm not really looking for another project for myself. Otherwise I'd pick up a sweet looking 700sc and call it done:) There is a gs450l around for $650, and a 450 nighthawk for $500. The 450 leaks oil after a rebuild, so I dunno. Wouldn't let me edit.

I know my bro, I just don't think it would be the right way to do it for him. I learned on a 250 and I miss that bike. There's a zxr400 close to me that I'm sorely tempted to go look at. (The ergos on that one are too aggressive for him) And I sent a PM about the 'hawk.

Hey everybody, as you are scouting around craigslist and having a beer with the buddies, please keep an eye out for a cheap bike. Any year or make is fine, so long as its bigger than 250cc and not a dirt bike or sportbike. Looking to do this for around $600. It just needs to run and be solid. Of course offers from OR members are welcome too ????

I appreciate the offer for photos but I've thought it over and I think a 750 would be too much for a beginner. I've got a katana myself, and as good a deal as you are offering it's not worth it if he gets hurt or discouraged from riding. Thanks again though.

Hmm. I've got a buddy going through a divorce that could use a cheap pair of wheels. And since I've got an '06... How quick are you looking to move it? It would be a 5+ hour trip for me to even look at it, but I do work in Cleveland from time to time. Oh, and more pictures please????

Just curious, what do you think the brakes and speedo would run me?

They don't sell one for my '06 katana either. The one I bought for my '08 Ninjette however was superb, and I plan on picking up a brake light strobe module from them rather than a full lens replacement from anywhere else. More importantly, I may still have a spare turn signal relay around (never installed it on the ninja). Sent from my DROID4 using Tapatalk now Free

I've not done it myself but cheap tungsten work lights were supposedly the right wavelength / temperature for certain films. A digital camera and attached lens may not work as well with them.
