It was good seeing the regulars out there and meeting some new folks. @jhughes - Sorry we didn't have time to hangout more @ludwb675 - It was nice to put a face with the name. Good to see you and Dave. @RHill - Thanks for the feedback on my lines, and the 1/2 lap tow until I couldn't see you anymore

Educate Me - First Track Day Novice - Mid-OH
Trackbikez replied to DerekClouser's topic in Track is Crack
Most of the questions have been covered, but circling back as promised - Novice is great to get your feet wet and not have to prep your bike as much as if you were riding intermediate/advanced. Novice group is slightly more tolerant of the gear you use too - like modular helments - that wouldn't fly in other groups. Some people, like 0hi0, may find novice frustrating if you've got any experience with other trackdays and/or lots of experience with "spirited" riding on the street. I don't bring a chair, or a tent, or anything extra other. I bring tools, a bottle of powerade and a bottle of water but I'm more of the minimalist vs. most guys, and I hate tearing down at the end of the day and trying to Tetris a canopy and other stuff back in my truck. Lunch at the track is good. If I'm not out there this coming Monday, then I'll be targeting the end of August dates too. I've got a couple more gift certificates I have to use as well. -
Educate Me - First Track Day Novice - Mid-OH

Start here: This is a very recent upload I'll circle back to the rest of your questions later this evening. -
This is my plan as well. Will be with Steve helping do whatever he needs in the pits, and may try to ride myself on Monday.

I think you're going down the right path here. Both my bikes had similar issues at different times One time it was a bad tank of fuel, the other was dirty spark plug. Issues corrected themselves with fresh fuel and new plugs on both bikes. Simple stuff first before you go tearing into the TPS and FI system, especially if it's not throwing codes (or any "new" codes in your case).

I heard you guys running off and on all day. I was at a cookout about 4 miles from the track. Made me sad I made the call not to bring my bike down last night. Glad the rain held out for the most part, but I was concerned every time I stopped hearing bikes - figured the track was demanding metal and plastic sacrifices.

Currently Weather.com for Lexington, OH on July 4th: Accuweather only gives it a 60% chance. I'm afraid I'll be bowing out for Monday You guys that do decide to go, hope you get the other side of that 80% and have fun on a dry track!

Sad to hear some guys are being jerks in A group. Be nice to know who the ricky racers were, most of the "regulars" I see are good safe riders.
-
I was hoping to walk-in on Monday. Did they mention how many spots were left in each group?

Yea, that's what I was talking about at lunch. No harm no foul, but I admit it caught me off guard. He said he was looking for me to apologize, but I ran into him first and shook his hand. He did apologize, said his foot fell off the peg which distracted him. He wasn't intending to pass there. He also passed me on the outside braking for T1 later in the day, and I was already hugging the outside. I didn't force him into the grass or anything, but he decided he wanted to put himself awfully close. His leathers said "Heroic" ont he leg, so that's how I remembered him. I didn't feel like I was "on" Tuesday -- I didn't feel as comfortable on the bike, on the almost worn out rear, something wasn't gelling for me. I'm hoping to get a new rear on and get back into the mid to low 1:40s on the next outing.

Watching Ryan and Andrew fly around me in the 7th session video makes me sad -- I want in on that fun. (8:40-ish in Ryan's vid in Thunder Valley, about 10:30 mark in my vid) All my raw footage is up, except I missed the first two morning sessions. https://www.youtube.com/c/trackbikez
-
I should have a new Q3 on the back by the next time I'm out -- so I'll be ready.
-
I also have plenty of afternoon footage of getting passed by Corey Alexander on one wheel. I was rolling around 1:46s for most of the day.
-
Thunderstorms look to be holding off. Hoping to be a walk-in tomorrow morning.
-
There wasn't even a mention of the fee when I handed my gift cert over, so maybe I owe you a "thanks" for taking care of that for the rest of us. We had 2 reds in A and 1 in Novice. I had just met the guy that morning who went down in the 6th session - nice guy. I think he posted a video here I went by soon after it happened. All you can see from my footage is the dust plume from the kitty litter.

Sony HDR-AS100V (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-HDRAS100V-Video-Camera-White/dp/B00HNJWSH4). Which I think has been discontinued for the 200V model. Though, depending on who you ask, the 200V is actually a downgrade. I did a full review here: AS100V review Camera has GPS and stability built into it -- which helps because the vtwin on the SV shakes a heck of a lot more than my I4 bike. And with the GPS, I get a poor man's laptimer. I had an SJ4000 prior, and the camera housing mount broke.

I think Ryan and his tagalongs make an appearance around the 8:30 mark. That might be him as the lead bike in the thumbnail preview...
-
I'm considering doing a walk-up on Tuesday, but I'll probably call tomorrow and see how many spots are available.
-
Disappointed that wasn't clear upfront, if that really is the case.

Redkow nailed it - $100 ($75 + $25 deposit for wrecking). I rented from the league president. Process was pretty chill, he didn't even have me write him a check until after the day was done. Pretty matter-of-fact conversation. "So how much do I owe you?" "Well, did you wreck it?" "Yea" "$100 then" Lap 2 of the first practice session (1:40-ish mark). I think Kent said he's only refunded the damage deposit twice, ever. And in Slo-Mo -
YMMV, but my experience with Q3s has been -- first session at 30/30 cold, once back in after session 1, set to 31/31 hot. After session 1, rear may need to drop 3-6 psi and front may need to drop 2-4psi to make the 31/31 warm. Assuming no suspension issues, continue to check the tires after each session for hot or cold tearing and adjust accordingly.
-
Definitively faster than you Chuck - GPS Cert . 4th day on Q3s (9/6, 9/22, 10/06, 10/07)
-
Full disclosure... I'm not running a matched set, just a Q3 rear. My front is a 2CT, and I'm not sure if I'll ever kill that thing. The 2CT had a few thousand street miles on it before i converted the bike to track-only, then has been through 2 seasons worth of trackdays (I'm on my third Q3 rear), and the 2CT barely looks used.
-
FWIW, I think Q3s would last 5 trackdays at that pace with that kind of power - if you're ok with DOT tires. 1:45-1:50 pace on the heavy SV1k with a heavy rider on Q3s. Per my service records, I did 9 days at MidOhio and 2 drag racing nights at Norwalk for a total of 962 miles on the rear before changing it. YMMV, and my experience is limited to DOTs (2cts, Corsa Rossos, Q3s, & the S20 Evo). I've never tried slicks so I have no idea how those would feel. That said, I think my current Q3 rear may only last 600-750 miles.
