@B-Mac Yes, this is different from the event at Canaan Valley. Yes, I'm crazy. But wait, it gets better. I also got talked into picking up the coordinator role for the MSTA Fall Colors event in Lewisburg WV.

Hi Guys,It's been a while since I've posted here. But a riding buddy from New Jersey and I put together a ride event through the MSTA, centered in Milford PA. We would like to invite anybody who's more or less in the area. The event will run from check-in on Thursday Aug. 1 through check-out on Sunday. Two days of riding. We have reserved about half of the rooms in a highly rated family owned motel (10 of 19 rooms) just outside of Milford. We ran the event this past October on very short notice and we had a great time. The MSTA runs a number of fairly large events every year. But this one is a type that's called a "Just For Fun (JFF)." There's no entry fee, no banquet, and no T-shirts. Just some pre-prepared routes and the chance to hang out with some other riders. And we get a small discount from the motel. We ride in small groups and we will coordinate those at dinner the night before or just before we take off.If you’re not from the area and thought that NY and NJ were nothing but urban sprawl – get your butt up (over, or down) here, and we’ll show you some wilderness, cliffs, and maybe some Bald Eagles. You won’t be in any city traffic, but on a clear day, you can see NYC from the top of Perkins Memorial Drive. If you’re from the area, come on out and meet some other sport touring riders. Have dinner with us at the historic Dimmick Inn & Steakhouse, in Milford, or perhaps the Carriage House in Barryville, NY.We have prepared several street routes, 100 to 250 miles. Routes will be available on printed maps and by gpx.Destinations/overlooks/stops include:Hawks Nest Highway (see the banner photo)Bethel Woods (Woodstock)The Roebling AqueductSugar Loaf NYPerkins Memorial on Bear MountainThe spectacular Route 106 through Harriman St ParkStorm King Highway with overlook on West Point Military AcademyGreenwood LakeThe Dingman’s Ferry BridgeEVENT REGISTRATION: Online Event Registration - Eagle Quest JFF, Milford PA Eagle Quest JFF, Milford PA - online management provided by PlanetReg reg.planetreg.com I can send an email with the route info after you sign the waiver during registration.Motel:Myer Country Motel 570-296-7223 or 800-764-MYER Welcome to the Myer Country Motel Welcome to the Myer Country Motel where for over 73 years our standards of innkeeping excellence have been our trademark. Hey Jared, Yes, it's quiet. But most of the forums that I've been on are quiet or closing up. Blame it on FaceBook. I'm from WV in Parkersburg. I noticed your post, but was hoping for a bit more info on what kind of riding you do, so I didn't reply right away, and then I don't check back very often... Anyway, I organize the WV group of the Motorcycle Sports Touring Association (MSTA). We meet the second Thursday of every month with MSTA members and other riders from the area, including guys from SE Ohio. We hold the meetings in Williamstown since most of our nearby guys are in PKB, Marietta, or nearby. Caldwell is a mere 30 minutes away. You might check out the web page at RideMSTA.COM and the about tab to get a feel for the sorts of guys who are members. Or just show up next Thursday at DaVinci's at 6:30. If you want to attend, please let me know so i can adjust our reservation. Chris Shoop

Eagles’ Quest - Just For Fun Event Milford PA Rally REVIVED October 14 through 17, Thursday till Sunday. Please join us in the scenic NE corner of PA to revive this event that ran for several years – led by Doc Lane from Hampton NJ. If you’re not from the area and thought that NY and NJ were nothing but urban sprawl – get your butt up here, and we’ll show you some wilderness, cliffs, and maybe some Bald Eagles. You won’t be in any city, but on a clear day, you can see NYC from the top of Perkins Memorial Drive. If you’re from the area, come on out and meet some other sport touring riders. Have dinner with us at the historic Dimmick Inn & Steakhouse, in Milford, or perhaps the Carriage House in Barryville NY. We have prepared several street routes, 100 to 250 miles. Routes will be available on printed maps and by gpx and REVER files. Destinations/overlooks/stops include Hawk’s Nest Highway, Woodstock (Bethel Woods), NY-6 through Harriman State Park. Perkins Memorial outlook, Storm King Mtn. This event will be late in the year and this is short notice – but we really wanted to get it restarted! The motel prices are a bit inflated because this is peak leaf season. Upside - the rides will be extra colorful. Houston has soooo many cowboy bars. Gilley's Club is closed, but I'm sure he'll have a blast. 🤠
-
Maybe not so much. Last few days, it's been hotter here in mid-Ohio valley than it was in Houston. Daughter lives there.

I've set aside TWO whole days. Prolly one for street and one for ADV and then flip a coin to decide for Saturday. Brian - which week days are you likely to be there?

Gorgeous Cobalt Blue 2016 FJR 1300A (not the fussy electronic suspension model) with 39,300 miles. The 2nd gear transmission and front brake switch recalls were performed in February along with a valve check. All were good I'm asking $9,500 on FB marketplace, with all the extras stripped off or $10,500 as is. I can do a bit better for OR members. Ask me. Michelin PR4GT's with more than half the tread remaining. Standard features - the LED cornering lights are on the ES model, not the A. https://www.cycleworld.com/2016/03/22/2016-yamaha-fjr1300a-and-fjr1300es-sport-touring-motorcycle-review-first-ride/ Extras in the as-is price: Shad 50L topcase with base plus Garald Stiffy Bracket. MCE Canyon Cages, front (w highway pegs) & rear. Bruudt passenger peg extensions. Townsend's helmet locks with Powerlet outlets on both sides. Chris Shoop

Rider - not Race... Dang, I'd blame it on autocorrect, but that would have picked a LESS appropriate replacement word. I'm taking the ChampDay session. Not the ChampStreet. The Champ day is new this year. From different email replies, it seems not all of the YCRS guys have the same understanding of what this one is. I think, and I'm hoping that it's sort of like a track day but with more emphasis on coaching. One description said it has a low student to coach ratio. Anyway, I borrowed, I mean stole, I mean bought @JustinNck1 ' s leathers. So I expect to have a nice hot sweaty time.

Brian, I need to check my vacation balance. The wife and I are taking two plus weeks to drive cross country to my daughter's wedding at Yosemite park. I might be able to take a day. I'll check this week and let you know.

Wouldn't work. They already like me better than you. 🤪

2020 MT-09 with absolutely no mods. And it's BLUE!!! It's a seller's market. MT-09's are rare and disappear quickly. The seller managed to look happy for this pic. The purchase was in Dayton. I need to find a new way to buy a new-to-me bike without driving 3 or more hours with that bike in my rearview mirror. I've added a frame slider package (all the spots) and a Puig windscreen is in the mail. Next will be heavier springs, though it's not too bad with the presets and dampers tuned most of the way up. Next trip, Monday, Aug 9 is to PIRC to take a ChampDay with the Yamaha Champions Race School where I will probably manage to avoid seeing @TimTheAzn

Guys, if you attend, please look me up. I'll be helping, but don't have to do the cookout this year - since we aren't having one. BTW I've grown a beard. Guess I should update my icon. Chris

The organizer put a notice on the facebook page to say that the motels are close to selling out for this event. If you want to stay right at the event, please get your rooms soon. https://www.facebook.com/events/224560089339510/?active_tab=discussion

Well, get your butt over here that week. I'm probably going to take the WR out that weekend. I haven't scheduled any vacation for weekdays, yet, but I did block out any MSF classes for the weekend.

I just earned a badge for being a conversation starter. I am supremely grateful. But I am also an old guy whose brain is riddled with old movie quotes. https://tenor.com/view/blazing-saddles-badges-gun-we-dont-need-stinking-badges-gif-15462454

The 2021 Fly-By Week in Marietta Ohio will be held Monday Aug 23 through Saturday Aug 29. Sunday is when folks pack up and say goodbye till next year. Check out the web page at flybyweek.com The event is conducted by the Motorcycle Sport Touring Association (MSTA) which is a nation-wide organization of riders that are interested in sporty riding at far-flung locations where great roads are abundant. The event attracts 100-150 riders, many who are riding with their wives, etc. from across the country. This year you can register for the event for $15 and do not need to be or become a member, though there will be a liability waiver. The entry fee gets you access to the event. There are no meals provided. The location will now be at the Hampton Inn and Microtel at the intersection of I77 and Pike St. There are several restaurants in walking distance. The main days for the event are Friday and Saturday. But beginning a few years ago, the organizers opened the event to begin Monday and extend through the week to provide more time in the area. The group attending during the week is smaller, so, after getting back from the day's ride and cleaning up, we carpool to one or more of the delightful downtown restaurants - and have a great time. The format for the rides is that we form small groups of typically four to eight and then head out on one of the 20+ posted routes. Most of the routes take most of the day and include a lunch stop suggestion. The rides are grouped into categories like Touring Bike Friendly, Destinations, or Twisties. This year there are FIVE suggested routes for adv bikes - most with gravel roads, not demanding, but one with more challenging sections. Signup sheets are available for each riding day which try to group skill / speed levels and interests. But frankly, most groups form up during the storytelling sessions in the parking lot the evening before. The MSTA members tend to be mature and skilled riders. We have folks ranging in age from the 30's to the 70's, most are in 50-60's. Many have been members for decades. The Fly-By, previously called the Mail Pouch Fly-By, has been running for about 25 years, usually from the same hotel. Each evening the parking lot has an amazing collection of bikes of all makes and of many styles. Many ride their sport touring bikes from far away. But quite a few bring sport bikes by trailer. If you want to see them, stop by in the early evening. The parking lot will be empty from about 8 AM till 4 PM or so. If you have any questions, reply here or send me a PM. Hope to see ya there! I agree!!! Not seeing enough of them nowadays.

@Scruit I will be listing my 2016 A for sale soon. That's the "base" version without all of the electronic handling features that make maintenance and longevity a pain. It still has all of the other nice things, ABS, cruise, heated grips, all LED lights - and other things that I don't often think of. The transmission recall was done and they replaced the clutch which started slipping after the recall work. I'm in Parkersburg WV so you're probably not that close, but let me know if you might pass by and would like to take it for a spin. Why am I selling it? Well, I bought it in the hope that the wife would do more riding with me. Her knees were bothering her when she rode pillion on my FZ6 - which has crazy sport bike ergos for the passenger. But lately she hasn't wanted to go riding and agreed that I should sell it. I'm going to be cleaning her up from a trip to Canaan Valley two weeks ago, then posting. My price won't be exceptionally low, but I'm planning to also offer a stripped version without all the added extras: Shad top case, crash guards, passenger peg extenders.
