  1. I bought the HF trailer over the weekend. It was an extra $40 off with a coupon - expires 3/8/15.

Does anybody here know the hitch height needed to keep the trailer level? I'll need to get a drawbar with a pretty big rise and would prefer to get that when I order the hitch - since they don't have many options in the stores around here.

4/16/15 EDIT: The height needed at the top of the bar/bottom of the ball is 14". This means the ball mount bar that came with my Hidden Hitch is at just the right height.

  2. Welcome mac!

This is a good forum with people from different parts of the biking world. Yes, most are sport bike riders but there are lots of others and it seems that all are welcome.

Please try to visit one of the "epic" rides. There you'll get to see a range of bikes and everybody's interested in talking.Check the folder on the main page that lists Rides & Events for info on the spring ride that is still in planning. Hope to see you there!

I would totally appreciate it ....and for those that are going to make the after party....all I have to say to you folks is..........P A R T Y  ON  G A R T H  ! ! !

Here you go. I only took this one - didn't see your request till 2 days after I was there. My dad had that exact same Yamaha 1975 XS-650.

I'll be sure to take some pics For ya.

... and neglect to post them!

Oops, Forgot that I got this one too. A consultant I work with has one of these.

  4. I complete agree that people who are fighting immunizations are fools and are being socially irresponsible. .

However, I'm old enough (barely) to remember the days before the MMR vaccine and, yes, parents DID purposefully expose their kids to measles. The malady was considered to be inevitable.

  5. JB,

As IP noted, it's one day. I don;t think they set the date yet. The organizer is considering a change but more than a few are asking for the same location and same route.  Approx 130 mile loop starting/ending in Logan, OH.

    See this link. http://ohioriders.net/index.php?/topic/105711-unofficial-fall-epic-ride-saturday-september-27/

Last year several from Cincy and Dayton areas met up in Springfield. Several of those stayed for dinner at the Millstone. Probably got home rather late, Check this folder for the meetup threads.

    Hope you can make it.

  6. Greetings Spyker. Welcome to the forum!

There are some nice roads from DC to Ohio.

But you might want to wait for warmer weather.  I ride in the winter but right now it's nasty. Brrr.

  7. Any GPS systems seem to eat power like crazy. I like to use CoPilot since the maps are preloaded which will save data use.

This might be more involved than you were looking for, but I installed a cig lighter/USB socket in a tank bag then connected it to the battery using a 12-volt connector that came with my battery tender.

The tank bag is a SW-Motech that mounts to a ring on the tank cap so that it never touches the paint on the tank. This version of the tank bag has a clear window - touch screen film so you can mount the phone in the bag, connected to the power and still see it, and use the screen.

I found the cig/USB adapter at WalMart in the RV section. It looks sort of like the one in the link below but only has one cigarette socket, does not have the male socket end (the unit I found was direct wire) and it cost less. Also, It is made to be mounted to a dash, or in this case to the baseboard of the tank bag.

Then I needed to extend the wires to get to the tender connector to the battery so I got an extension like the following, but at Autozone - also in the RV section.

I use a Sena SMH10R headset in my helmet which uses Bluetooth so I don't need any wires to the helmet. I got that mainly to have intercom with the wife.

  8. No riding for me this past week.  I picked up a nasty cold/flu Christmas eve and have been sleeping most of the days and nights feeling achey and being whiney.  Serves me right, I guess, bragging about when I have been able to ride :-).

    Get better soon!

  9. Yea, but my post contained more info. Quality over speed. You remind me of the young steer standing up on the top of the hill with the weathered old steer. He says to the old guy, you know we could run down the hill and screw one of those cows. Old steer says yea, or we could walk and nail them all.

    Ummm...

Neither of those steers would have been interested. They'd have been more likely to have moseyed down to join the cows (&heifers) for a good gossip session. :moo: :moo: :moo: :moo:

  10. I'm planning to build the Harbor Freight trailer. I've seen quite a few happy stories about it and none that describe real problems, other than about poor directions for electrical wiring. The main caution seems to be to change out the grease in the wheel bearings with a good quality bearing grease.

    Here's a link from the FZ6 forum.

    http://www.600riders.com/forum/the-bar/50851-2-days-hard-work-frustration-but-here.html?highlight=harbor+freight

Please see the link he's embedded to the Sportsbike.net site for a build story.

To secure the bike, I plan to use the Tyre Down that secures the rear tire, plus a simple front wheel chock, probably from Harbor Freight.

    http://lockitt.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=Lockitt&Screen=PROD&Product_Code=TDTD1502

Eric, "Erci" on the FZ6 forum, uses a Pit Bull. But that's almost $300 vs $120 for the tyre down. Plus with the Pit Bull you need to use mounting spools on the axles while the tyre down fits most modern bikes.

Good Luck - and let us know how it works out!

    Chris

  11. Update:

    Hey Jack!

Two weeks ago I cancelled my order for the Transitions shield when I called and they (Shoei) still do not have an availability date.I found sites on the internet that showed that Shoei has been saying they were coming out with this shield since October 2013.  It does not take more than a year to fix a quality problem when another company has been shipping these for several years now.

On a different note, I bought the Windjammer 2 helmet skirt. Tony Blaze had one at the Epic Fall ride. The skirt really quiets down the helmet, up to 70 or so. I will probably take the thing off next spring as it is very snug around the neck and I suspect will make the contact and the interior of the helmet pretty hot. Also, it is no fun removing the helmet with this thing on. I've learned to move the skirt over my nose before the big pull but it still pulls hard n the ears and eyebrows. No problem going on - at least.
