  1. OFFICIAL Greeting for Slow Group:

Dudes.   If you're still here, you're in the Slow Group. Welcome.

The ONLY rule of Slow Group:

         It's OK, we'll get there.

OFFICIAL Policy of the Slow Group:

We DO talk about the Fast Group, especially if it might possibly get us out of a speeding ticket, or loitering ticket, or...

"Yep officer, we do know those other guys."

No, I'm not the lead. I just think I'm funny.

  2. We LOVE you Derek! And trust you and respect you... (Well now I've gone too far)

I'm certain Josh's rant was entirely about PayPal.  (I Really MUST get back to work)

But please rest assured that many/most, probably all of us, are grateful that you're doing the shirts and the setup for the ride.    Volunteer organizers are precious and few.

If that vendor mess ever happens again, please let us know! I wasn't part of the group when that happened but NOBODY wants you to have to pay for that type of problem.

  3. I have no clue why this rant happened...

I'm with you on the sentiment.

But I'm pretty sure it's all about the money. People/companies, PayPal included, are trying to find ways to make money from the internet. Then accountants get involved (ALMOST as bad as attorneys  :D) and are compelled to get more money from the original idea. Hence the grinchy factor.

Warning! One more post about "I remember the good old days, before (insert topic)" and somebody will send you a t-shirt to identify you as a Crusty Old Fart. You're too young for it, but welcome to the club!

  4. Please try a do-it-yourself. It really IS easy and I agree with bloody that way too often the shops do not do it right or carefully.

I'm on my phone so I didn't watch the video but please be sure to recycle your used oil. I get it at Walmart or autozone. Both places take recycled oil. It's a good idea to have a gallon jug to handle the used oil.

The only likely problem you might run into is in getting the filter off. When you get the new filter. Invest about $8 to get a filter tool. I prefer the type that fits snugly on the top of the filter can and attaches to your ratchet wrench. Most bikes don't have the space available to use the adjustable strap type.

    Good Luck!

    Chris

  5. Hi hasuna!

    Welcome to the area.

Very Nice Bike! Good idea to get the gear and great move to do the MSF!

I wouldn't have suggested the R6 for a first bike - it's great that you have some experience. But please be careful of the R6's quirks. As you've probably experienced, the engine is very peaky, meaning pretty weak down low then gets 100+ HP crazy when the revs get into the sweet spot, But that means you're going pretty fast when you get to the fun part of the power curve, so PLEASE be careful! Especially after you start to feel confident enough to want to see what she will do.

I hope you'll join us for the epicOhio ride on 9/27 (check the rides & events forum).

  6. In June I switched from a white Scorpion to a light silver Shoei. I'm always wearing a backpack.

Mornings I go on Corridor D from the Ravenswood/Lubeck exit to the one from 68 just before the bridge.I'm usually on that stretch just befor or right near 8 AM. Very variable in the evenings.

  7. I'll be signing up tomorrow. Then we only need one more, I exchanged emails with the admin lady in MO and she'll transfer the fee I paid for the cancelled 8/9 session. I'll also be putting flyers on bikes at work. Last week was so rainy that I only saw one other bike in the lot.

  8. I'm likely out. One of my asshole friends decided to get engaged last month and have the wedding on the 27th now

    Dude!

In my experience an impromptu engagement followed by a right-the-heck-now wedding usually had a shotgun involved.

Check the back on the invitation envelope to see your friend wrote any desperate pleas for your assistance and/or a getaway vehicle.

  9. Update:

I experimented a bit on the way home today and think I know why the helmet whistles at the chinstrap. I simply stuffed a folded paper towel (that I keep in a pocket for misty mornings) into the gap btwn the strap and the cheek pad. This eliminated the whistle on that side.

Check the photo noted above. The cheekpad for the RF1200 exhibits an unnecessary and troublesome notch along the edge that should seal against the riders cheek. Instead this notch creates a gap where the chinstrap passes through to the inside that causes a whistling sound when your speed exceeds about 50 mph. I'm tempted to keep a kleenex for each side in a pocket for any rides longer than my 6 mile commute.

The red straps near the front of the pads are part of the emergency pad release system which is a great feature - or might be some day.

    On a more irritable note,

Last night I sent an email to Shoei-America's customer service to ask when they would be likely to ship the Transitions shield. The first reply was that the dealer should not have cited a ship date because they (Shoei) did not tell any dealers when the shield would be available.

So I replied immediately to ask whether they actually have this as a product, if the dealer should have sold it, and if he could tell me why it was not yet available two months after I bought it. The reply was "The transition shield is not being shipped because it is not available yet. When the shield is done with final quality control testing we will inform our dealers when the shield will be available." This is not really an answer to any of my questions, and it raised my emotional level from "concerned and annoyed" to PISSED!

So, if you wear an XL and would like a great deal on a very slightly used silver helmet - talk to me before I get over the anger!

  10. BUMP

Four of twelve available seats for this class on 9/6/14 are filled. We need two additional students to sign up so that the class will be held.

I want to attend but cannot commit to it at this point. So I am trying to get the word out and I'm hoping to be able to sign up on Friday, 9/5 - if there are any openings remaining then.

    Chris
