your profile on the forum has a photo album. Just upload them here to your photo albums and then link. NWill, do you have a bending brake also? I may have some brackets I need made.
  2. I know I won't because I tried and my nuts were sitting in the center of the steering wheel being crushed by my gut. I have no idea how I used to fit in this thing at 14 (which was tight even then). I do have a ton of spares for it though. hardest thing to find so far has been period correct slicks for the magnesium turbine wheels on it. and yes they are staggered size tires.
  3. going to court over what exactly? They think they are somehow not at fault?
  4. what did you use on the top? my YJ top could stand for some treatment like that. Also you ceramic coat on top of back to black or whatever you use on the trim?
  5. the front axle stand offs are part of the frame but there really isn't a lot of bracing there. Also the control rods run really close the front frame rail. The rear has a braced hoop behind the engine that is much stronger and has no issues with wires or control rods so I would probably hang it from there.

  7. Figure somebody here has dealt with this before.... So I was gifted Dad's old Racing go-kart from when he was a kid. Aside from being from the late 1950's and having not run since 1993, my 6'5" fat ass can't fit in the thing anyway and nobody would probably let us run on the track since it is an antique that would kill you if you look at it funny. But....it was a pretty high end kart for 1958 and has all these cool things like triple 1bbl carbs, a belt drive posi, a clutch, and a ton of contingency stickers from races in the 50's. I want to hang it on the wall of my house. I know some of you guys here race modern karts and it's common to store a modern kart vertically on a wall, so maybe that's a start? It weighs probably right around 200 lbs and I want to hang it about 10-15 feet up (the room I want to hang it in has 20 ft ceilings). Am I being crazy or can this work? and if so, how?
  8. I have half and full doors for a TJ, but I have no desire to sell them to you.
  9. Pre 2015, you got taxed in both states if they did not have a reciprocity agreement. If they did have a reciprocity agreement you paid in one and requested an exemption in the other. Post 2015, federal law prevents two states from collecting income tax on the same income. In a state with a reciprocity agreement, you just pick one state and pay there and request an exemption (typically you pay in the state where you work and get an exemption for your residency state). In states without a reciprocity agreement you have to FILE in both states, but you only pay in one and you get a credit in the other (again typically you pay where your employer withheld funds and get a credit in your residency state). It could also be argued that the person is engaging in commerce in the state where their job is, that they are using state resources to generate personal income and therefore must pay for those state resources. Also that their income tax in their resident state may be set off by someone else who works in their resident state but lives in their work state. Not every tax is a disincentive, sometimes it's just to pay for resources consumed.
  10. You have kind of hit upon one of the unique quirks of American Jurisprudence: What does representation mean in "no taxation without representation"? The answer is that you have to have some representation in the government, not that you have to have representation in every government body levying taxes against you. longer explanation: The phrase "taxation without representation is tyranny" is directly tied with the Stamp Act of 1765 where if you printed anything in the colonies it had to have a tax stamp on it, and if you violated the law you were tried in an admiralty court with no jury. The colonists were tired of being taxed heavily (to make up for English losses in the seven years war) without having a representative in parliament, viewed the stamp act as the last straw and formed the stamp act congress (eventually known as the continental congress) in October 1765 in NY. These are the seeds of the American Revolution. for the Colonists, Representation meant the people had to have a representative with some ability to advocate on their behalf in the newly formed federal government. The logic was that even if that representation wasn't a direct member of the body levying taxes, it could still advocate with some authority. For instance States weren't bound by taxation without representation until they adopted the TWR language from the federal constitution into their state constitution, it was generally thought sufficient that if a state imposed an unjust tax, the federal representative could pressure the state to repeal that tax, or subsequently impose a federal law that nullified that law. Most people apply a modern interpretation of practicality to the phrase "taxation without representation" and think that means they can't be taxed at any level without a representative at that level and it just isn't true. US Colonies and territories (PR, Wash DC, etc) are full of US citizens who are taxed but do not have a single representative in government to advocate on their behalf and cannot vote in presidential elections. One thing A state or a municipality does have to have in order to tax though is some justified standing for the tax. States, counties, and municipalities cannot tax residents of states they do not govern. They can also not double tax (although prior to 2015 they could). The fight over where to tax work from home people is really just a fight between municipalities about who gets to tax workers, and one of the justifications for taxing them where they live is that they have representation in that municipality and it would be unjust to tax them where they don't have representation. Whether that argument holds true is up to the courts to decide.
  11. So...is there an upside to all of this? Like in 2024 will it be easier to find "special order" cars with interesting options in the used market because the dealers were so sold out people had to order rather than take what was on the lot?
  12. yeah no kidding. With the chicken tax and the death of the S10 and Ranger (and the Colorado moving into old full-size territory and price) there is some serious blue balls for small, capable, pickups. layer in some covid supply chain issues and you have a full on black Friday rush for anything with wheels.
  13. 5.4sec 0-60 and 14.0 flat 1/4 mile? I'm not sure if I should be impressed or not. For a karen/mom SUV that's decently quick (faster than an SN95 mustang Gt). For being the second fastest thing Toyota makes, those numbers are depressing (esp with the FR-S in the lineup). https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a33028735/2021-toyota-rav4-prime-xse-by-the-numbers/
  14. Are we not going to talk about the real WTF - that a Rav-4 is $49K BEFORE the stupid dealer markup? A Rav-4.
  15. Not really. There is this real "fuck the rich guy" mentality that seems to exist in the "built not bought" end of the hobby, and I'm not really down with that kind of divisive mentality. I'm all for appreciating good work but not when you have to put down someone else to do it. A well built car can be appreciated for being a well built car - regardless as to whether the owner did the work themselves or not. If you have to put someone down in order to highlight how good your junk is....then is it really that good?
  16. I remember that car from the times you brought it to cars and coffee. I can't see any reason for BAT to reject it just on how clean and well built it is. a used 2013 FR-S is like $17K right now with really low miles. I'm guessing that there isn't a transaction so simple you would take that little amount for your special hot rod (If I am wrong I'll be over with a check at the end of the day ). It needs a market where it can find the right buyer who appreciates the work put into it and is willing to pay that. BAT is one avenue, FB groups for the FR-S/BRZ are likely another, maybe Ebaymotors (but I haven't had much luck with them lately).
  17. When you buy from a parts store, they typically have a supplier contract with 2 or 3 suppliers and that's it. RockAuto buys from independent warehouses so you can find everything from the cheapest junk to high end stuff - you have choice. MY only experience with US Motorworks is that at one point they made a water pump for the LT5 in the c4 zr1. Since dad has a ZR1 we talked about getting one as a spare (OEM spares are non-existent). Someone else in the ZR1 registry bought one and sent us the pics - the casting was low quality, the threads were all gunked up, and the part needed grinding to fit. we ended up buying a used water pump and sent it out for a rebuild. I personally would not purchase their part - not because it is cheap, but because my limited experience is that their parts are not made well. Shop around, see if NAPA or Autozone has a better deal. I tend to buy from NAPA a lot these days because their quality is a little more consistent.
  18. what non-vanos head are you thinking about that fits to the M50?
  19. Put it on BAT. It's your best bet, people are willing to pay a premium on that site if the car is good. Photos can hide a lot of stuff naturally so I don't think you need to have it super detailed. Maybe have Tim do one of his super paint corrections/detailing jobs on it so the outside gleams. He sold his Cherokee on BAT so maybe talk to him as well about that experience. There are plenty of amateur photographers on here that would probably help you out. heck I'll do it if you are willing to meet me close to where I live on a weekend morning (early so you get that magic hour light at sunrise). you don't need pro pics, just ones that don't look like they were taken with a 1995 kodak disposable camera and then scanned into the computer using a potato. 20. S62 is the e39 M5 engine, going rate is about $10K-$12K for one. An M60/62 can be found in any 540i or 740i from 1994-2003, and you can usually buy the whole car for around $2500 running. Avoid the later N62 that has the valve seal issues since those are a really expensive and re-occurring. the M60/62 series v8s bolt up to the Getrag 420G transmission which is the same 6 speed used in the E36 and E46 m3 so it will go in the chassis (check the clocking though, I know in E30/E36's and E34s the same trans had different clocking between 3 and 5 series cars). because the non vanos engines are mostly SOHC not DOHC. M50 was the first common modern DOHC BMW I6 and it is also the first vanos engine. The M88 is a DOHC Iron block but good luck finding one in the states - we only got them in the M cars (E24/28). Also those old iron block alloy head engines have their own issues with head sealing and warpage as well as overheating. of the old engines the M30 is probably the best one to look at. made from 1968-1995, and found in the E12 M5,, the 635csi, and the E23 735i, they are common and have a lot of potential (esp turbocharging).
  21. I haven't been there this year to check but there is usually a place selling good trees at Karric Place on Franz Road between Tuttle and Hayden Run. It's not a farm, but a pop up tree seller. We got our tree there last year - the selection was way better than lowes and HD and our tree lasted a long time.
  22. I dunno, without checks, some of these really great shops can't do the really impressive things they do. There is something to be said for the patron of the arts, and to that end there is something to be said for the guy who commissions Speedkore, Steve Strope, Chip Foose, et al to make magic happen. I am not saying you should value the check writer more than the craftsman, but it should be recognized that one doesn't exist without the other. turning this back to a BMW conversation for a second - rather than an N54 in an E46, I don't think this is a great idea. Those engines have a fair bit of turbo issues that usually require sorting. They are reliable when sorted and maintained but most of them out there are suffering from some combination of the following common problems: High-Pressure Fuel Pump(HPFP)Failure Turbocharger Failure/Wastegate Rattle Leaky Fuel Injectors Leaking Boost/ Charge pipe Failure Valve Cover Oil Leak Carbon Build-up Vanos Solenoid failure (2A87 and 2A88) Water Pump Failure Instead, I would look at an M62 naturally aspirated v8 swap into the e46 chassis. There are more than a few swap kits that make this a bolt in proposition, and it's not hard to tune 400hp out of one (S62 in the e39 m5 was 394hp stock), plus they are cheap and common.
  23. 1st: please let me know how you are going to hold the dead accountable? I'll wait. Those same folks like whom? seems like you are making a lot of assumptions on your part. If KR had been the active shooter that some of those people had mistaken him for and those unarmed people had stopped him, I would be willing to bet you would be lauding them as a hero. So you are right, as long as we are both making assumptions about people your Hypocrisy is laughable. If you want drag in the history of the people attacking him, can we also talk about how all this was over defending a buy here pay here car lot that the owners never asked him or anybody else to "defend"? Is damage to a couple used Hyundai's really worth deadly force and extra-judicial killings over?
