A lot of records coming out of this too...but not the good kind of records. - First time a shutdown has spanned 2 congressional sessions - First time that a chamber of Congress changed power in the middle of a government shutdown. - Second time a president's party has controlled congress during a shut down - 4th longest shutdown at Day 13 as of today. 21 days is the number to beat to claim the record spot set in 1995-1996. and let's talk about that 1995-96 shutdown for a second. Ostensibly Clinton shutdown the government in 1995-96 because human trashcan Newt Gingrich had pitched this comically harmful spending bill. In theory it was supposed to look bad for Clinton and it did initially - he took an awful beating in the press, but by the end of it he had his highest approval ratings to that point and it partially secured Clinton his second term in 1996. Clinton went into the debacle as moderately liked president and came out the other end a really well liked president, where as the republicans wrongly bet the farm on his popularity tanking. I wonder if, in that twisted stale cheeto brain of his, DJT thinks he's pulling a Clinton and this is going to make him "popular" enough to wipe out the last two years and carry a second term in the white house. In other news....this is Satire, but I am starting to worry that life is imitating art that is making fun of it: https://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/i-dont-hate-women-candidates-i-just-hated-hillary-and-coincidentally-im-starting-to-hate-elizabeth-warren -

I have to wonder about this....the republicans normally love Trump because he's a fantastic distraction while they execute their agenda undetected and unopposed, but what do they do with a situation where he's fucking it up for everyone? and do you think Trump will bite the hand that elected him once they find their end run around him. I am fascinated by the political strategy of it right now. Republicans have unequivocally caused a shutdown, but are crafting a narrative it is the democrats fault because the balance of power in the house shifts today in favor of blue. So the republicans can sit back and blame the other side for a shutdown they caused and prolong and the optics of it for the conservative media outlets allow them to push the narrative that it's all the democrats fault because they control the house because it is technically partially true. It is both amazingly sneaky and a pretty big fuck you to the collective intelligence of America...and what's worse is they aren't wrong that some people will fall for this. But will it be enough and can it carry in 2020? -

I think your reaction is appropriate.....I worry about those who don't have similar reaction, either they don't understand how their government works or their "fuck the government" cynicism has reached a level of tolerating self harm as long as it fucks liberals, the government, or (somehow) Obama. -

For whom is it better to have no plan than a bad plan? There isn't a scenario I can think of where this would remotely be a true statement. -
Great job so far, it's really giving off that '60's trans am vibe with the body mocked up on it. Curious how you are going to make it wider? Cut the fenders and do a box flare or outside shaped flares? Also, since the body is not structural, what about hinging it at the rear like an old funny car and having it lift up?

I'm just happy to see you have a car you are into again. Good luck with it.

Um...no... https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2017/apr/23/mick-mulvaney/fact-check-did-top-democrats-vote-border-wall-2006/ Let's be clear, people aren't against border security, and NOBODY is advocating open borders. Being against a 5 billion dollar government works boondoggle project that statistically has very little merit toward addressing the problem is just something people don't want to sign up for. Any prior plans for border security did not cost this much, were more effective, and were cognizant of the legal boundaries the US had to work with. Up until this point Trump hasn't gotten anything right on immigration. His restrictions were slapped down multiple times by the courts, his administration separated families with no plan to reunite them....who would support anything future plans he has regarding immigration? His administration is reckless in the area - and also...wasn't another country supposed to be paying for this? -

That's because Obama didn't "do it". The government shut down that happened in 2013 under his administration was caused by senate republicans who didn't want to pass the ACA. It wasn't "Obama's" vote that held up the funding resolution, Obama signed it once the senate came to a resolution, unlike now where the senate has come to a resolution and Trump is refusing to sign. And at the time people on both parties were furious about it, and some of that lingered into to 2016 election. Just because you weren't outraged at the time doesn't mean people weren't "too upset" when it happened in 2013. By the way, this current shutdown is the Third under Trump's administration and the third one in a year. Up until now government shutdowns happened twice a decade. There is only one other time another president held up passing a budget resolution and that was Clinton in 1995-96. The Republican congress at the time had not budgeted properly for education, healthcare, and the environment and Clinton vetoed it twice. People were furious then too, I was in my first year of college and I remember the protests outside federal buildings to end the shutdown. Please try to be more fact based in your comments, it hurts us all when you just regurgitate the stupid. -

Have you seen the first pitch perfect movie? No? Then who are you to talk. I loved the first MIB movie and the second one had enough jokes to keep it interesting, but not even the Mets and Andy Warhol could save the third one from how campy/corney it was. Still unless Brandon is putting in some after hours time at Axis or Southbend I highly doubt he is running into any people "getting offended" at the title "men in black" because it's not gender inclusive. -
Who said I ever left?

Yeah because your fridge, toaster, coffee pot, and dishwasher are all connected to the Internet with mics and cameras
-
why would they need to see through walls? just remote turn on the camera on your smart device or computer.

yeah probably because the last two sucked and the world needed another MIB movie like it needs an asshole where it's elbow is. I HIGHLY doubt it was because it wasn't called "people in black" but hey don't let that get in the way of a good story. -

So government is too big and has too much power but you should always bow down to authority figures of the government and always do what they say...got it :dumb: -
Well....none of this stuff is ever really "lost". There are always a network of people who know about it and often want to buy it but don't have the means or access to make it happen. It's just not "known" to the collective hobby at large, because part of grabbing it up for that low price is kinda keeping it as much a secret as you can. Where you get into the real "lost" stuff is where you have a car that was mis-identified and it turns out to be something special (like that shelby prototype that was sitting on a texas farm) or large collections on farms where people kind of forget about "exactly" what's out in the back 40.
-
It's crazy, right? Can you imagine what would happen to the collector car market if all the cars people were "hoarding" away were to enter the market place? we would be talking 10 year old used car prices for big block chevelles and 1969 camaros. When I used to drive the GTO around, I used to hear from people how "rare it was". They made 86,000 GTOs in 1967 and close to a million cars for the entire production run of the GTO - hardly "rare" numbers. The thing is people aren't using them like "cars", they are squirreled away and if they run only brought out for special occasions. just because people don't see them anymore they think they are rare, meanwhile grandpa has 5 of them on his farm sitting under broken mowers and paint cans. out of sight - out of mind.

If you google 2.4 tigershark engine (which is the I4 in the 200) you'll see all sorts of complaints about oil consumption, fried starters, failed thermostats, etc...across all the cars that used the engine (dart/200/jeep). The 3.6L in the 200 is the pentastar they put in the Jeep wrangler. My father has a 2016 with the 3.6 and he hasn't had a single issue with it at all. In fact everyone I know that has the pentastar 3.6L loves it and has had no issues. I have heard of first year (2012) 3.6L having some problems and there was even someone here on the board with one of those early 3.6Ls that had an issue, but I forget who it was. Bottom line, if it were me, I would look at the V6 car and avoid anything with a tigershark 2.4L I4.

I get that it's a joke, but honestly, you. You are spying on yourself by using social media, owning a cell phone, using the internet, owning "smart devices" and doing it all voluntarily. I am not saying your "spying" fears are unfounded but it really isn't the .gov you have to worry about - it's the fact you can't buy a TV on the market now that isn't "smart" or the jurisprudence stemming from the patriot act that says you don't have an expectation of privacy on the internet that requires a warrant. -

I had many 200 rental cars over the years and here are my thoughts: the first gen (up to 2014) were miserable rebadged sebrings that literally fell apart as you drove them. I remember taking one up to an ECTA meet at wilmington with 5000 miles on it and the dash vents fell out of the dashboard on the way there (which we then used to stuff the dash of that rental with fast food containers). everything bad ever said about a 200 usually comes from this gen of car and almost all of it is deserved. The second gen (2015-2017) was actually a nice sorta well built car. I had 2 rentals, 1 I liked and 1 I didn't care for, neither were an S. It's the same platform as the jeep cherokee, chrysler pacifica, dodge dart, etc...so it's ok. I thought the 4cyl was underpowered which is why I didn't care for it (it was a base model). the v6 limited I drove was much nicer. I have a friend who is not a car person who has a 2015 and he really like his, It's only been in the shop maybe once outside of maintenance.

Brandon, and I mean this with all seriousness, Clay is not the person you want to fuck with on this board. Not for any scary reason, but more because he's literally the one person almost universally beloved on this board by the people who know him. -

maybe, we don't know yet. Time will tell. All the indicators are saying it's pretty good for ISIS who is facing less opposition and counting it as a victory. It's also good for Iran and Russia whose influence we don't really want to grow in that region. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/20/world/middleeast/syria-us-withdrawal-iran.html I think we may be aligned on this - my comment wasn't a jab at Mattis, as blood thirsty as he is he's still a pretty good tactician, it was more a dig at trump for being the guy who doesn't know what he was doing. -

no he was right, Trump loves china because China loves him. The Chinese government loves DJT because he's a great example of how democracy fails and their propaganda machine loves to exploit that. Also the people of china kinda love him in general because he is big and blustery and talks out of his ass and overpromises, something they are used to with their own leaders. it's a pre tarriff article but it covers it pretty well: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2018/03/trump-china/550886/
