  1. Because CR. Duh. I mean that's pretty par for the course of this place. Shit, I am getting sucked in....ok... No, but there certainly are people advocating for that position....cough...NRA...cough. There are also people advocating for a total ban and it's an equally extreme position. Most, but not all, of people who talk about things in the context of a ban are usually falling to the other extreme of the spectrum which to me is an ineffectual position. Any meaningful improvement (not solution, just improvement, there is no 100% solution) is going to involve work in all areas, including gun control. Anybody advocating that you can make things meaningfully better by improving only one area genuinely isn't interested in making progress in this area. This is a risk management problem and there are ways to manage the risk better without an outright ban, but it is going to require some movement in the gun control space. anybody who is saying "if you give an inch it will lead to a ban" or a "ban" isn't the solution" isn't having a serious conversation. yes most people agree a ban isn't the path, so move along and let's focus on what might be the right the path and be open to more moderate gun control. I don't presume to know what would have prevented this one or not, or whether this is an outlier situation or something that fits a pattern. I don't presume to know these things because nobody is researching it because the funding is blocked. I'm an old broken record on this but it's those same extremest types that have frustrated that. I have said it before, and I'll say it again - remove the dickey amendment, get some real meaningful research in this area going, analyze the data, and make small adjustments to the existing framework with supplemental legislative support to maximize the efforts to manage this risk.
  2. It never ceases to surprise me how few people see that there is a middle ground between total absence of restriction and an absolute ban. That being said, this thread is a raging dumpster fire of stupidity. I have to give you credit greg, I read this and immediately saw I didn't have the patience to deal with this much ignorance, I don't know how you do it.
  3. the 2001 to 2007 Maserati Coupe and spyder were the last two Masers to come with a manual transmission. They are out there and not all that rare but IIRC there is some defect with the manual transmissions or the clutch that makes driving them a nightmare. chances are this one is well sorted: https://cleveland.craigslist.org/cto/d/2003-maserati-corso-spyder/6593870102.html but it is $4K above budget.
  4. just from the impress the kid factor, there are WS6 4th gen's in that price range too: https://youngstown.craigslist.org/cto/d/2002-transam-ws6/6585545989.html there are also Camaro SS's in that range too: https://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/cto/d/2000-camaro-ss-6-speed-ls1/6594875368.html but between you and me the WS6 is the nicer car. I love the French, but I wouldn't wish Peugeot ownership in the US on my worst enemy. I had three friends in highschool that had handme down 505's like that one, they broke constantly and parts were impossible to get back in the 1990's (with the internet now, who knows?). You have to have someone who knows these cars to work on them. I will say they were fun to drive when they did work.
  5. Let's not forget the XJS vert too. I saw one on friday and I forgot how striking these cars are in person - they look like nothing on the road now: https://youngstown.craigslist.org/cto/d/1994-jaguar-xjs-convertible/6588885311.html I should also add, I think boxsters are under $10K now, but that feels like trading 1 miata type car for another: https://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/d/2000-porsche-boxster/6579001139.html
  6. the first gen XK8 coupes are pretty striking though: https://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/d/2002-jaguar-xk8-coupe-rare/6580775508.html
  7. As long as it's a toy and not a Daily.... A good old fashioned american Land Yacht convertible: https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/cto/d/1968-buick-skylark-convertible/6585896379.html https://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/cto/d/1965-buick-electra-225/6565850176.html https://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/cto/d/1962-buick-special-convertable/6568238877.html https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/cto/d/1967-chrysler-newport/6594923214.html https://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/cto/d/1965-oldsmobile-cutlass/6594874267.html https://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/d/1965-ford-galaxie-convertible/6588015894.html Seriously, Lots of eye candy with these cars. They are rolling marshmallows inside and out, cheap to own, cheap to fix and maintain, and super comfy. They collect stares because they are so unique. The only caveat I will add is that shoulder harnesses are not always installed on these cars, although most have the mounts for it if they are made after 1968 and you can put them in.
  8. Well that escalated quickly....lol If that is a T5 with overdrive, then I strongly urge you to put 3.55s or 3.73s in the rear, esp with a posi. It will wake the car right up.
  9. Akira-san isn't using that as a bonding agent to hold the panel (the screws into the body do that work), he's applying a bead so water doesn't get in between the body panel and the flare and cause damage like rust or dents when it freezes. To that end, I agree with red - windshield sealant, which would work for the silverado but not for the bmw. For the bmw I would say 3m super trim adhesive, plastic and emblem adhesive, or super weatherstrip adhesive. Maybe even their high bond trim tape. If you want something heavier you could maybe use Surebond Metalbond sealant or eastwoods replacement panel adhesive.
  10. have you guys read the comments section of the deadspin article? Pure. Comedy. Gold. "Horton, here's a poo!" <----love it Once upon a time I worked in a Barnes and Noble Bookstore during the holidays. I've seen trails of liquid poo leading to the bathroom, bathrooms where it looked like an explosion that required me to clean the ceiling, overflowed toilets that you could play battleship on the floor with the turds, a little kid that pissed in the corner of the children's section every story time, a woman over the clothes masturbating in a chair while reading the erotic novels...you name it. But I have never seen anybody ever shit it on demand and throw it. Never. I also never again worked a retail job of any kind, so maybe that had something to do with it.
  11. I loved Pass Time when it was on. It really was a novel concept and brought a lot of what makes street and drag racing fun for the spectator through the little screen. I wish they would bring that back. Hopefully this new show brings some of that with it.
  12. dude, you are killing it with this car. Once you get some power into it you'll feel better about the car overall. It sucks driving something you expect to be "fast" that isn't. I think the black mirrors look fantastic with that black hood stripe and I wouldn't even repaint them if I were you. It's adds a "racy" look. I don't think people don't "care" about their cars, I think sometimes it is just hard for them to put in the time, work, money to keep things going. I think about this a lot with my jeep which despite my efforts has begun to deteriorate faster than I can keep up. If you do have the time, space, money, and energy to do it though be happy and do what you can, and in this case it is really showing with this mustang, which I am sure was loved by all it's previous owners not always cared for by people with all those things.
  13. They do have a system in place for these kind of things, and sometimes the waiting game is part of it. Remember it costs them money to do anything to resolve this, so if they do nothing and you go away, then it costs them nothing. Being slow to get back to you and hope you don't take it further and go away is one step in the process. You being persistent that you were wronged and maybe start writing them letters detailing that you made a complaint, someone else made a similar complaint same in time, and that you offered a sample and disposed of the sample when they told you it was not necessary, are ways to continue to be annoying enough. The other side of this is that the people who commit fraud with these types of things know that it pays to be a pain in the ass and usually keep chugging as well. Without taking it to small claims court - certified letter writing is pretty much it for what you can do. send them a bunch of letter certified mail and see if it gets traction. They will think you are putting together a case for small claims court and may handle it to get it out of the way before they have to file a claim with their insurance and insurance hires a lawyer, and their rates go up.
  14. did you take a pic of the fuel and water settled out at the time that it occured? If not, how do you intend to prove to them that you got bad gas? I will say this from my days of representing franchise businesses, for every legitimate claim there is also false claim filed, so often these cases come down to how you can prove that you got bad gas. having a picture with a time/date stamp (like one taken with a cell phone) close in time to the purchase is one way. having a repair bill from a shop that states bad fuel as the reason is another. If you have some proof beyond your word, send it to them and make a demand for the cost of the fuel. If you don't then I don't know what to tell you.
  15. Good job on getting one together. looks fun! Now that you have done it, time to put it on a mountain bike with disc brakes and suspension. 32mph on something with clincher brakes would make my butthole clinch
  16. Do the supercharged 5.4s in the 2007-2009 GT500s have the same issues?
  17. so...what's the chassis grant? or is that a secret?
  18. Let's talk chassis for a second, What kind of work do you want the car to do? Drag car? handling car? just all around street car? For a streetable drag car I would look at either a 70's-80's G-body or a X-body 1974-1979 nova. Huge aftermarket for both and if you can't find a useable body for $2K or less then you aren't trying. Most will have v-8s and the mounts will be available to make the LS a bolt in. Look at pontiac Grand Prix's esp since they don't have the following of the monte or cutlass and they fit bigger guys (esp when you ditch the bench for race buckets). I am one of the manual trans faithful, but to be honest, you are better served with an automatic for this. For an auto-x car I would look at either an e30 bmw or an e36 318ti. Both can be had under $2K for a useable body, there are swap parts available and many v8 swaps done, and lots of aftermarket suspension upgrade parts available. For just an all around "street" car or GT car? Jaguar XJ from 1970 to 1987. V8 swap kit is cheap and available and many are already swapped. Independent front and rear suspension, handles great, plush ride, fits bigger guys, disc brakes at all 4 corners...you can find them for $1000 in raggedy but used condition but really nice ones are like $5K tops: https://muncie.craigslist.org/cto/d/1974-jaguar-xj6-with-chevy/6587860180.html https://akroncanton.craigslist.org/cto/d/1987-jaguar-xj6/6588305732.html downside is that manual swaps will be a little hard since they only sold stick versions of these cars in england/europe so you'll need to import the pedal box. Upside is most of them used chevy TH400 transmissions so the muncie trans to t56 conversion mounts for old musclecars makes it a bolt in deal.
  19. it also makes a neat swishing sound at low speed. However you can only do that on tubeless bicycle mag wheels
  20. I think you are now experiencing the same thing that people did in the early 1900's when they were developing the first motorcycles out of bicycles, or again after WWII when people were developing motor bicycles to avoid tax and operating costs that led to the development of the moped. Too many improvements and at some point you are just building a small motorcycle or moped. BTW, most states have laws that cover moped, and laws that cover bicycles but not really laws that cover home made motorized bicycles that don't meet the definition of a moped. Chances are, even with a gas motor, you are still not meeting the definition of a moped, but I would look it up just in case. Adding suspension and other things might push you into other categories. Some of that may be from frame flex, some of it may be weight shift, and some of it may just be tire distortion from more rapid acceleration than the drive system is used to. Just keep an eye on things and check for frame cracks periodically.
  21. sounds about right. I will say that most bicycles don't run a lot of rake or trail in the fork because they are bicycles so high speed stability is not a primary concern. Trail is most important to straight line stability and it is the distance between where the tire contacts the ground and the imaginary line of extending from the steering head to the ground. This explains it better: https://www.cycleworld.com/2015/05/22/cycle-world-tips-and-tricks-understanding-motorcycle-rake-and-trail One of the reasons I like Schwinn springer forks is that you can use the suspension bolt to adjust the ride height and travel and thus adjust the rake and trail.
  22. ok, so what would be meaningful legislation? What do you think needs to happen for it to be more than "feel-good"?

When you say lacks power, do you mean it just doesn't feel as fast but still rev's through the range smoothly? or does it sputter and buck and generally act like there is a real problem? Does it happen right after a fillup or just any time the tank is full. It's rarer, but I have heard of sediment in the tank being churned up by the fuel coming into the tank and partially blocking the pickup and filter. If you let the car sit it will usually go back down and the car runs normally again. in racing the difference between a full tank and an empty tank can sometimes mean a full second of lap time or more, so there is some merit to the car being sluggish when full and light when empty. In really light cars like miatas it can even make a difference in traction and weight balance. In your heavy pig of an AWD Cadillac you shouldn't really notice but maybe you are more sensitive to this sort of thing than most?
  24. Fuuuuuuucked being relative - being an unregistered lobbyist carries no penalty. He can be an unregistered lobbyist and it's more like he's hand job-ed than fucked. The foreign agent thing though....might be a little sticky.
  25. Technically speaking if you drain the swamp, more water comes in from somewhere else to fill the void. You can't fight entropy in nature or politics. To be honest though, a lot of this sounds like just regular old lobbying. Just because Cohen is taking money for attempting to get access to the president is not on it's face illegal. What is illegal is if he promised a specific outcome for that money or promised a guaranteed meeting for the money paid. Even foreign governments have hired consultants to get time with the President (most recently the Taiwanese government hiring Bob Dole to get time with the president). The value of a lobbyist (and ultimately the determining factor for his price) is in their connections. Now there is one other angle here with Cohen, and that hinges on whether he was an attorney still representing Donald Trump at the time he was selling consulting services. That could raise a conflict of interest claim that could threaten his license to practice law if both parties were not made aware of the conflict prior to him being engaged.
