  1. @jschaf Hmm I think that might get added to list of possible options. They also are saying KTM is looking at coming out with a 790 Adventure maybe next year.  I think that 690 would be great on the trails just wondering how it can handle interstate for hours getting to areas to ride/camp. Definitely worth some research and a trip to a dealer to look at as I get closer to making a decision about switching bikes.

  2. So I'm sitting here looking at adventure and dual sport bikes. I am contemplating a new bike in 2018 and am heavily leaning towards a more multipurpose bike. I love the XSR but it is great on road, but the few times I hit heavy gravel roads it was a very sketchy.  So I'm looking for a bike that can handle highway riding (we really don't have much off road near me so may have to ride an hour or more to get places), can carry enough gear for weekend camping trips, and can handle some good off road riding. To me most bikes are too heavy for the last bit so I have been looking at this Yamaha T7 concept based off the fz-07, Africa Twin enduro concept, and Triumph tiger.I was also looking at the wr250r and crf250 Rally. Wondering what your thoughts are on having one bike for everything compared to getting a little dual sport and keeping a steet bike?

Anybody have any experience with camping off motorcycle your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Oops. I meant west on 78. :)  Have a good trip!

Thanks, I always do. Anytime on the bike is a good time. I'll make sure to let you and Justin know how it goes. Maybe I'll even post the day in case anyone else is going to be in the area. I have not gotten to meet anyone from here yet and it be nice to put faces to screen-names.

  4. @Mary#17 thanks. Now you have me thinking of making a day trip and visiting my dad. I am originally from Cambridge so I could head up that way and end up in New concord and swing over to my dads for a visit and then hit 83 up from New Concord and make the trek home.

Do street riders actually safety wire their grips?  I might learn to do some safety wiring anyway in case I end up on a track one day.

I've never been to a track day and I safety wire my grips. I think mainly from when I was riding dirt bikes I did it and just bled over to my street riding. Also I don't use any hairspray or grip glue just air compressor to put it grip on and two pieces of safety wire. Never had a grip come off or loose.

And I don't think I will learn to sleep well before a ride but definitely won't be getting out when dead floor tired and sleepy in future. At least that much I should resign myself to do. It's quite a catch 22, love riding to the point can't sleep well from excitement, can't ride well since you didn't sleep well.

I used to be that same way but I don't know if it is getting older or what but anymore the things that used to keep me up at night don't. All I can think about the day before the ride is getting to sleep so it gets here faster. I still usually beat my alarm up in anticipation but I sleep like a baby through the night. As far as fatigued riding I try not to do that anymore. When I road dirt bikes it never failed I would ride to much trying to get as much out of my time at Wayne that I could. Always towards the end of the day I'd almost always wreck. I chalk most of those up to exhaustion and hardly having the energy to manipulate the bike, but a wreck is a wreck doesn't matter what excuse I attached to it. Luckily usually minor but did toss a brand new Atv off a 25ft drop at the end of one day. I was at least coherent enough to realize I lost it and dove off before the drop and was only banged up from a 30 mph roll on the trail. The Atv filpped a few times. I slid down and it started right up and road it back with bent racks and handlebars.

  7. @JustinNck1 Nice!! I don't mind the distance only a few hundred miles and it always seems faster than the estimate. Unless you stop for a meal or something.

I prefer being out 6-8 hours but with three little ones and the wife it is hard to get out. Why a lot of my riding starts early in morning. Hell I did 3 hours Sunday before anyone even woke up to  know I was gone. :D

  8. So I am going to take a ride down south for a short ride(4-5 hours). Here is the route I came up with but I know you guys are regulars and can tell me if I'm missing something.

Start on Route 4 south from Marysville

route 56 south all the way down close to 93

    Route 314 North

    route 374 west

    becomes route 678

    route 180

    back on 56 north

    route 104 north

    Route 762 through Harrisburg

    Route 665 to London

Take Route 38 from London to Marysville

    Things I am debating.

Going farther east as I beat my GPS time estimate by a little over an hour on Sunday.

Slabbing it down to make up some time for more time in SEO and less time getting there.

    Anyone have and recommendations?

I went through that debate last night figuring out which to order.  It sucks trying to get it right.  Did you google XSR tailbags?  Gotta be a bunch of threads and pics from other people that have gone there before you.  That is how I narrowed it down.

Yeah I did some googling but seems most people choose a really tiny bag which doesn't hold much. I think I'm going to order this and worse come to worse return if it can't work. What did you end up going with?

  10. Debating on a tail bag. Be nice to have a place for water, camera, rain gear, etc... only thing I'm wondering on is if 15" long is going to cause issue with the XSR taillight. May just have order and find out. I got 14" from passenger seat to top of light, but I'm hoping maybe the center would ride perfectly on top of light.
