  1. Update: Just in from a check out ride on one loop (but in the car) and 62.5 miles on this loop. My first choice.

Lost the stopwatch five minutes out (Mags: 4 minutes, 13 seconds, point 3). Well, not lost, musta banged against console and stopped.

AND another frickin' deer on a blind 90! He/she scampered up the bank and away. Maybe I'd better get a big deep freeze!

Ya know what? I'm ready! Pick yer day for the social. Sept. was Scmuckgirl's suggestion and works for me! Sept. which? PM's start now!

  2. Nah, jus' not thinkin' a town would do a nicey like that. BUT, I'll check, if folks wanna. Remember the home base is just that...just a place to kick up yer feet and think on stuff or chit-chat.

Sept was a shout...uh, Labor Day weekend? It'll be here soon. Gives an extra day to recoup? Pick some days and it'll get laid out.

Kawi Kid has his map copy by now. Shout out. Gimme a Saturday, this month? Sept.? October? 1st weekend is a Fall festival in Millersburg, So lotsa tourists, Fair food, not like kinda good to fair, but "Fair" as in greasy fairfood. Keep stuff rollin' in. This can happen.

JRMMiii, so a woodsy spot along the ribba and chop trees down for the campfire?

  3. Okay, basics are: Holmes County, situated approx. 80 miles south of Cleve and about the same miles northerly of Columbus. Mansfield 45 miles (?) west. So 71's at west end of area and jump on 97E (by Mid-Ohio Race Track) thru Mohican Woods to Loudonville to 39E to Holmes Co. Heck that route there alone makes the ride. Cleve, drop down 71 to 83S (to Wooster), another option I77 and east from Dover N-Philly on 39. 'Clum-bus' USR 62 all the way (or 36 north from town on 71). I usually catch 161 to 62 (New Albany). Canton/Massillon drop down USR62. If yer a glutton for punishment drop down SR241, yikes, buggies and bikes. Just watch the horses ears...if laid back, that's when ya "pipe". How fast are quarter horses? No, just kidding, don't. Easterlies traveling 39 west (as well as 62's south), will encounter Berlin, sorry. Tourists and both the lites (maybe three now).

Millersburg is central to the rural county. Located at intersections of SR's 39, 83, USR62. Yep, everything funnels right into the square.

Reference/info seekers try; www.historicdowntownmillersburg.com, and a guy started some sorta 'radio-like' station on interenet, www.thevoiceofholmescounty.com. If it helps ya out.

Best deal I think would be a Saturday. So given the roundabout guestimates on incoming miles. SO's could be possible. There is all them touristy shoppie things in Berlin. If ya got the 'franken-bolts' strap a rocking chair on it and stack yer SO on top. That should cut the touristy spendin'-just don't mention UPS.

Millersburg central. Should I talk to the Hotel and get a meeting room? Ya want a street blocked off to park bikes? I can always ask. Who knows they might fall for it! Or hunt up a park like location and we can burn stuff on our own?

Let us see some numbers and food thoughts. Routes while yer here? Think cloverleaf. Out and back to central, then another loop if ya choose. I look at connecting all loops in some sorta fashion for Iron-butts. There ya go a "Plan". Longest straight-away is 3/4 of a mile. So mostly turns and hills with three or four towns.

    Jump in!

  4. Be back in 10-12 hrs. Ya want the routes posted in "Moritz" code?

"JRMMiiii", One route we talked about briefly at #36. Boy, if dat don't sound like a code, huh?

If ya folks got somethin' else going (Satan luncheon) I'll defer. There's always the fall leafy tour.

"mags", we could rent a mini van and all the SO's could shop for Amish furniture. My PA outing has new wicker on the porch (ouch)!

  5. Hey. Some jokes about this and then the thought, why not? Started in this group by seeing postings of folks in the neighborhood, or passing thru. Now I read more are coming and the radio is running PSA's about the King Midgets touring the area. We can't let these lawnmower engined cars rule the highway!

Is anyone interested in having some little trips set up here? Kawi Kid and I could do something. General idea is: Ya get yer little group together and come on down (from Cleve) or come on up (from Columbus). We could do small loops around area and keep the miles down (JRMii). One route I looked at this AM was at 50-60 miles. Use this county for a base camp and run out from here. Then co-ordinate with ya tourists on the best routes for your interests, us being local hicks.

Plan, would be to have it wrap up late PM, before dark and all the creatures start coming out.

What say? Let us know, please.

  6. Jrmiiiii, Wow. Milan, really? Me too. Add in Detroit and Norwalk, but many moons ago. Present thinking is Norwalk would be for me on 1/4 mile and Mt. Vernon (even though 1/8) so I can learn the launch and is real close.

Then there's that drag bike ad I just saw! Oh, Oh.

  7. Sounds like a new thread in the making: "Cook Out in the Outback". If you guys are serious. Could be done! Located mid-way between Columbus and Cleveland (80 miles plus or minus). Mags, jump in here with correct mileage!

Short routes to be done iz easy once here. Just fun things to enjoy the country side. I can just use my practice roads (include the more stable county highways-or just state routes). Set up three loops to chose from (road type desired), an hour loop?

We could find a small town to take over and burn things. Or.....just dig a hole in yard and burn stuff. Sundays everything closed, so it'd have ta be a Saturday. Then ya could recoup on Sunday to go back to mundane world. Dayton? Uh, to Columbus and then add in yer hour and a half.

We have the technology to do this (matches & wood). Multiple chairpersons...organize yer neck O' de woods and travel back in time. Coshocton boys could even show up. Lotsa nice roads available.

I can limit the loops to a "Bird" tankful, for me that's a hunnert miles.

Should I rent a van and we can then do pre-runs with a group tossed in back. Haven't done that since Atlanta Runoffs. The sober guys were concerned with an old Aerostar van sliding thru turns, everyone else had a good time.

Lemme know. Coshocton, here's yer cue!

  8. Okay...things computer strike again: Here's the revised post: Didn't know the first one went online, and couldn't delete.

Next trip...Valued photog equipment for da "Fonz".

    use_1.jpguse_2.jpguse_3a.jpg

    Attach Camera

Activate Self Timer & Extend Rod

    Aim, Hold & Smile!

I made it back. Felt muscles tightening up as darkness fell, perforated suit, and cold air after all that extra exertion. Run down from main route as I waved goodbye to group and throttle hand was in the fixed "Craw" position. So using front brakes was out.

Nuthin' really a problem, got home and thought that I was melded to bike. Trouble wasn't until I finally got off. Lotsa cars to lean against and hold on to as I limped into house. "What happened?", exclaimed the wife. Sharp cookie, she is, noticed right away was hobblin' thru kitchen and finding another use for counter tops!

I thought it nice that an eatery in PA would name itself after a good road in Ohio, "36" nice twisties.

I'll leave the scratches on the bike since track day is coming. I wonder if I have enough brakes left to pass tech inspection. Good thing on all this is that the leathers don't look new. So for track outing, I won't glisten in the sun with shiny new leathers. AND, not likely I'll be mowing the yard today! HA!!

Sierra club sent me a thank yew card, appreciative of my efforts re: flora and fauna preservation.

Great meetin' you folks. It would seem we all travel same circles! Anytime ya want to visit the woods. I'll set up some fun loops. Maybe a cook out. You guys can mow my yard in return, since I'm an invalid now. It'll be fun, once ya hit the hillside it'd be like running an ATV, I can water the hill down and you'll slide down into the street below.

Magley: No I really didn't get a thank yew card.

Not actually Fonz's camera in the demo pics!

Most likely not Fonz in picture too (either one of the folks).

Mag's street map drawing from the restaurant's table napkin:

projecting a street map into perspective space

Great trip. Let's do it again real soon!

  10. Yer so technical...Yeah it is, was late at nite and I ain't figured out things computer. It was red, it was purty so went with it. At least I got the av'tar updated, I think it's a Kawasaki from Coshocton/diesel powered.

Disc with real bike is in tower and no clue as to how to get pic from it to here. It copies, but then no paste option. Kids ain't here to ask, so there ya go (or not). Heading out now, as the pic was a dirty bike, gravel road travels. Hear Honda has an excellent cleaner, so off to local Honda dealer, it's about 40 -50 miles one away. So I'll be back in 1/2 hr. No jus' kidding.

So all kinds of photos and video tapes, since they didn't have digital back in my day. Guess I hafta buy a scanner and figure out how to put photo album to werk. Convert video tape to on-line would be a challenge too.

If I sell the 8 track, maybe I can get some newer stuff!
