Pushrod Overhead Cam Engines and Other Newfangled Oddities...

Yes please explain how they run without spark plugs.. Yes coilpacks give spark to the wires.. and then the "spark wires" go where? graemlins/fruit.gif -
I didnt realize you were on the board. I have some pics of your car I'll try to post later smile.gif

There was an Olds at the dyno yesterday with a 350 Rocket that dynoed ~205rwhp. I wouldn't have any dyno number for the 455. I'll check w/ a friend who knows this stuff darn well..

I need someone who can do QUALITY welding ASAP!!!

Interesting.. I'll let Joe know.. I used JB Weld on my friend's water line and was wondering if it would hold. That's some good info. I wasn't sure if it would hold water pressure let alone fuel pressure but if you say it's working it's definitely worth a try.. smile.gif [ 23 May 2002, 03:59 PM: Message edited by: SamZman ] -

Hey Joey.. About the block: The block on my dad's Mercruiser cracked ~5 years ago. Anyways a friend of mine got a trick from a marina and used puddy for body work. I had my doubts at first but he sanded it down and used the body filler to fix the cracked block. Like I said it's been about 5 years and no problems. Boats run so cool that heat isnt a concern like it would be on a car.. About the fuel rail: I talked to the same friend about welding the water line on Jason's car and he thought the line would be too thin to weld. The fuel line seems to be about the same thickness. Maybe there is more of a welding expert here?.. But did you see Larry posted a fuel rail for sale on cofba? latah, Sam -
You have 8 grand for the total project? If you spent 8 grand on the engine you could have a nice 396, with a nice set of heads and cam. Otherwise you should atleast change the heads and cam before you install it.
-
Sounds cool.. Post some pics
-
Sounds like a belt to me. Reach in there and make sure they are all nice and tight.
-
So how did the install go? I had a 91Talon and put a big 16g and it was a pretty easy swap. But I know the 2gs are a little tougher. Good luck.. if you aren't already finished smile.gif

Yeah I'm afraid it sounds like the head gasket. My dad had a 6 cylinder Cougar and the same thing happened I took off a driver side spark plug and water just poured out

weird.. I have no idea.. I did do some searching on the internet and all I could find was this: Flow (gm/sec) 6.60 Flow (lb/hr) 52 PSI32 Resistance 2.25 Mfg.Bosch Part # E4ZE-CA Color Gray dash # 403 Application 84-85 5.0L HO CFI I found that here.. http://www.merkurencyclopedia.com/index.html But then there is this page : http://www.turboford.org/faq/injectors.htm The gray seems to mean several different injectors Ok sorry I wasnt much help.. good luck though

Ok I lied it was the May issue of Hot Rod.. Here I'll type out the article since it isn't that long and I cant find it online.. The person talking is Judson Massingill from the School of Automotive Machinists (SAM), and they know there LS1s. They have a naturally aspirated manual SS that runs 9's
-
They have plenty of mods for his car. Just depends on how much $$ and what he wants to do w/ the car. They have headers for the LS1s, shorties and longtubes. He may want to get the last issue of Popular Hot Rodding which had a "Best bang for your buck" bolt ons for LS1s (and many other cars).. I'll give it a look when I get home from work tonight.
-
YOu may want to check your brake lights (in your taillights) Sometimes that causes the brake light on the dash to come on. I'm not sure about the air bag though
-
Oh I doubt you've seen him at Edgewater. Just Trails as far as I know, but he does pull the fronts and runs 1.2 60's.. But he has a built turbo 400 w/ billet parts. I'm not sure on the specs but another friend of mine just got his tranny/converter setup, I believe from Yank. But it wasn't exactly a bargain (~$4g's ) Anyways.. it sounds like 1badd66 should be able to help you out.. Good luck smile.gif
-
I'm not sure how well they match up, but will ask around... But I know a 400 is a very solid tranny. A friend just had one built to run 1000lb of tq and another friend runs a turbo 400 in this car which I've posted before....: http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid16/pa42c92ee489e1c706e07cbbee7eab396/fdeed9b8.jpg He ran mid 9's and pulled some nice wheelies w/ the 400..
-
My roommate is going to have his turbo 350 rebuilt very soon. He has a shop in mind but is this something you could do? What is your turn around time? ..
-
I don't know how long offhand, but you should be fine. There are some very fast cars that shut down w/out a problem. And if you do have problems they stacked up some hay at the end smile.gif
-
I doubt it caused any serious engine problems. Were you racing the car like that? If your car was boosted and you raced it you'd have some serious problems.. But if you were taking it easy you should be fine..

I'll be driving around with E/T Streets on the weekends this summer. I also have 3 other F-Body friends who will be doing the same.

I agree with what Jeff said. But I'll emphasize that I never really could get the Nittos to hook well. BFG's can be heated well and hook better than an equally heated Nitto. My BFG's were about bald at the end of the season and I used them after my Nittos picked up a screw. It was quite a bit of difference, of course they were much more bald (bald drag radial = good traction). My roommate ran 1.6 60's w/ BFG's and an open rear end last year. I ran Nittos most of the year and really didn't like em. They are MUCH better in the rain than BFG's, but once you lose half tread they are horrible. All drag radials are a catch 22 they don't really hook well to you wear down the tread, once you do that you can't use em on the street..

Everyone should invest in a bottle of Geddex(sp?) polish from Jegs. It's not like a regular shoe polish, it's made to wipe right off. They generally use it at Trails but sometimes they use regular shoe polish which is TOUGH to get off . As 1bad66 said you need a bunch of Windex or a razor blade to get it off. That's why Razorback didn't have a problem but you are. Anyways, Geddex, go get some and if you see them using regular shoe polish tell them you'll write your own numbers on Then you also won't have to borrow any if you bracket race smile.gif

Backfiring will be caused by your car running rich. Is this a poping or an actual backfire? When does it occur? Maybe your 02 sensors are bad or not plugged in properly?...

Help! Breaking Flywheels on a 4.0 Explorer
SamZman replied to Boost-n-Juice's topic in Tech and Tips
That is strange. I'm gonna guess that it's your torque converter.. I know when I've had them go out they just slip. But I'm not sure what else could be causing this besides that. Maybe someone else has had this problem before
