After hard driving, I can park the car...and 10 minutes later grab the headers with my bare hands and they'll be cool to the touch.

It also helps that it's 15 degrees outside Let me know when you're gonna try that in the summer so I can have the video camera ready I've also heard nothing but good things about Jet Hot, and nothing but bad about header wrap. The wrap is DEFINITELY a no no.
  2. my roommate has an NHRA rulebook around here somewhere..I'll find it later. I'll give you the basics. I'm sure I'm leaving some stuff out.. 13.99 and quicker requires SNELL 95 or newer helmet. Convertables require roll cage. 12.99 and quicker needs a driveshaft loop 11.99 and quicker requires the driver to wear a fire proof jacket and the car to have a 6point roll cage. You must have the side bar that runs down your side in the middle of your shoulder and elbow(when your arms is at your side). This bar can be removeable or "swing out". The bar behind the seat which runs right across the back seat is one that cannot be removeable(to the best of my knowledge). Which sucks cause it makes the backseat somewhat useless. 9.99 and quicker requires a 10point rollcage, NHRA license and the chassis has to be certified. These are the only ones I can think of offhand. Heck there are pages and pages of rules so I'm sure I'm leavin a bunch out. I was just tryin to hit the ones that effect the most and you actually hear about. I believe that a chute is required when you run about 150mph, but don't quote me on that..
  3. You should check out Mr.Tint on Frank Rd... You can swing by during the day and check out the place. They do excellent work for a reasonable price. They have a couple photo albums w/ a ton of the "high end" and nicer cars he's done...

  5.
quote:
Originally posted by 5foxbody0: hey how many of you use a power washer or use one of them at the car wash to spray your engines? ive heard from alot of people you can and it doesnt hurt anything....but i decided id post it and see what your opinions are. thanks ben

Just leave your car running while you do it. Let it warm up and then soak it w/ engine cleaner and then let it sit while it's running. You can stick a plastic back over your distributor and try not to spray RIGHT at it or your coil. Everything else should be fine..

    Porting Heads?

Are they doing everything to the heads? Millling(if necessary, new valves, valve guides, seals, etc.? Do you have crossfire fuel injection?

quote:
Originally posted by Nitrousbird: Tommy.....uhhhh....I've never ran no 200 bottle through my motor. That would be a HELL of a lot of nitrous!!

LOL. That'd be like a bottle fill a week for 4 years Anyways, I don't see why you couldn't run a 50shot. I'm sure it would help quite a bit. A bottle will last quite a while I'd think running a 50shot..You shouldnt need any performance upgrades for such a small amount of nitrous. It's not nearly as dangerous as some would lead you to believe.
  8.
quote:
Originally posted by Iria: Well if you want more power than your gas mileage is going to go down. There's nothing you can really do about that. You can always add nitrous to your car for some quick horsepower when you need it.

Well headers and mufflers will give you more power and improve fuel economy. But any serious engine mods will force you to sacrifice gas mileage...
  9.
quote:
Originally posted by BLACKBIRD99: The T-bird turbo coupes were turbo V6's. My dad had 3 in a row followed by a T-Bird SC(supercoupe).

Adam, I've never heard of a turbo V6 T-Bird, the Turbo Coupe T-Birds (83-88) had the 4 cylinder 2.3 liter turbo. I found a website about them - http://turbocoupe.com/ ..
  10.
quote:
Originally posted by Morgan: weren't the t-birds (turbo coupes) turbo 6s? not turbo 4s like merkurs...

They were turbo 4's. Oh but how bout the Plymouth GLH turbos. They were very light and I know there used to be some quick ones around..
  11.
quote:
Originally posted by Nitrousbird: The guy you are refering to is Sam's roomate Bryan. 11 second Z (NA 355), pulling high 1.6 to low 1.7 60's on a factory open rear ended 3.73 rear w/ BFG DR's. I can't remember if his is a 7 5/8 or 8.5" I'm not the person to be asking which rears came in which models, though......perhaps someone else knows specifically. But I just wanted to point out that even the 7 5/8" isn't THAT weak for the most part. Weak, yes, but the internet tends to make it seem like you are guaranteed to break it tomorrow or something.

Yeah Bryan had a 7 1/2in./10bolt rear end. He ran very good 60ft times and 11 sec E/T's w/ a 3600 stall for several seasons before destroying it. He was real close to yanking the front tires(I have a pic but its not on a website) and he only had the open rear end. Also my GTA has a Borge Warner 9 bolt rear end. I believe it is 7 3/4in. and has taken many mid 12 sec passes. They are a pretty strong rear end. Especially since fast 3rd gens (L98's) were almost all automatics, which are easier on rear ends. Once you start talking about fit and finish and opinion on a good project car it's all opinion. DSM's are nice and easily modded but I'm definitely not a fan of the quality of the interior and ride(my opinion of course). And mine also did not get very good gas mileage either..But there is a big difference in a project car and a nice quick daily driver. I would love to have a DSM as a daily driver smile.gif It all depends what you want out of the car and how fast you plan on going.. I would also say that if your gonna buy a car for 5g's you can almost add LT1 F-Bodies into the mix. With a little looking you can locate them for close to that.
  12.
quote:
Originally posted by Six Cylinder Science Project: Hey, no problem. BTW, let me know if your buddy with the 3rd gen Camaro is going to be hanging out with us some time. I'd like to get his thoughts on a few things.

Hey, I missed this post Mark. I'm sure he'll be out sometime. He usually heads out there.. He was scared of the rain that night..
  13.
quote:
Originally posted by Six Cylinder Science Project: If you're intreested in getting the best solution, you might want to check out Swain Coatings in NY state. www.swaintech.com ........

Holy cow, Mark! That was quite a response smile.gif Just thought I'd let you know I enjoyed it and will be saving it for future use
