  1. I know that the Audi A3 quattro 3.2 VR6 is essentially the same car but not flypaper to the VW fanbois and without the expensive brake services. It's also slightly more comfy and way cheaper in the used market.

    and twice as girly.

  2. Realistically, what's your budget? How much money have you put aside to throw into a car like this?

The rule of thumb nearly everyone talks about in the air-cooled forums, was buy the best example you can afford because these cars are more expensive to fix up rather than buy in good condition the first time around.

Buy something with engine trouble, you're looking at an easy $5k rebuild. Body parts and miscellaneous parts need replaced? That stuff adds up REAL quick.

I guess what I'm getting at, is that I hope you know what you're getting into.

  3. Let me take that back, casey's car was $42,000 in 2011. The turbo x50 996 over triple that in 2003 money. I guess the manufacturer thought the car was a quality piece, as they certainly asked quite a lot for it. Oh yea, the Cayenne shaft took a shit at 72,000 miles, and the intake had to come off for the third time ( first for the coolant tubes, next starter 3000 miles later as coolant leaked on it and took it out, and the last time was for the coolant tee behind the engine that is made of the same fine plastic as,the rest)

Consumes 1 qt of oil every 1000 miles. I expect this sort of problem at over 100,000 miles or more, coolant tube popout Really unnecessary.

I don't know why you wouldn't hold a car on such a high pedestal when the manufacturer seems to with words like excellence, driving machine and such.

They seem to charge enough to manufacture a more reliable car, but don't seem to hit the mark. I would expect this from a cheaper car, but more than likely would get a more reliable machine.

I have older Mercedes and Porsches that had many small issues, these have larger issues and are newer with many less miles.

So basically you bought something you didn't know you were getting into? Got it.

  4. If there is a piece of you that says you'll regret it, then hold on to it.

I fucked up and sold the wagon :(

It's 50% more than what i paid. Took it out for a drive last night, felt pretty good.

The problem is if I sell it I don't know when I'll be able to find another one like it. But I guess the fun is in the chase right?

Honestly, I would have to know how much you paid and how much the offer is to decide without a personal attachment. 50% more over purchase price could be only a couple thousand depending how much you bought it for. Depending on the car, that may not be worth it.

I'm in much the same position, BTW. Purchased the porsche for 16k, and market value and real offers have been given to me for OVER double what I paid. Is it worth it to me? Yes. Will I have a chance to own another car like that again? Probably not. I'm still holding out for a wee-bit longer unless something else comes along.
