The SEMA Show in Las Vegas is currently underway, and in a sea of glitzy and modified cars, it can be hard to stand out. Most SEMA vehicles tend to be over-the-top monstrosities just designed to attract attention -- and then you have Toyota, which has done virtually the exact opposite. The deceptively normal-looking Land Cruiser you see here is, in fact, the world's fastest SUV. With 2,000hp, the "Land Speed Cruiser," as it's called, can hit 220mph.

So, about that engine. It's a heavily modified version of the stock V8 that came in the Land Cruiser. The engineers slapped on a pair of "volleyball-sized" turbos, and added some holes in the bumper for air, so they ultimately produce more power. The end result is over 2,000hp -- more than enough to cause a few problems for other components, which is why virtually every single facet of the vehicle was modified or replaced.

When dealing with something like an SUV -- which has almost none of the aerodynamic efficiencies you'll find in ultra-high-speed vehicles like the Bugatti Veyron -- top speed is limited as much by the shape of the vehicle as the power under the hood. By lowering the Land Speed Cruiser, less air goes underneath it, and by smoothing out the underside, turbulence is kept to a minimum. That means not only less drag and higher top speeds, but more stability at those speeds, too.

Sure, if you look from certain angles, you can see that it's not exactly stock, but by and large it looks like a normal-ish Land Cruiser -- not a 2,000hp beast that can beat a Ferrari F40 on the Autobahn. That's very much by design, and was actually one of the hardest parts of the build. A team of engineers at Toyota's Motorsports Technical Center literally cut the body off of a Land Cruiser, modified almost every single thing from the frame, to the suspension, to, well, obviously the engine, before carefully putting it back together again.

There's nothing haphazard about that at all.

  2. Good looking vehicle, my wife would love it. I am interested but rebuilt titled cars always scare me. What does a rebuilt title do to the value of a vehicle?

I have seen any where from 60% of the fair value of the vehicle on KBB to what ever the market decides.

It's not the type of car to be scared of, otherwise I wouldn't have touched it myself lol.

Value of the vehicle has pretty much stopped going down, and I've priced it for CR a bit below typical market. If it were a Salvage/Rebuilt title just before I were selling it, I could see cause for concern, but this was involved in an accident in 2008 that changed the title. It's been long fixed and on the road without issue since 2008 when the accident happened.

FWIW- I will be listing it for $4250 firm on CL or anywhere else, and I know it will go.

Worried about value on a $3800 vehicle? Find out why it was rebuilt, drive it till it dies, sell it/scrap it!

Exactly, except it will probably never die and continue to hold the "Toyota value".

It really depends on the vehicle. Luckily this isnt a Cobalt or something and still has that Toyota-type reliability factor working for it. Seems totally priced down well considering. If it weren't more of a PITA to get my kid in and out of Id seriously consider it to beat on all winter (even though at a 6' tall guy I hate driving my moms tC). Even if you wanted to sell it later as long as it stays clean I bet itll hover around $3K for a few years.

It's definitely a reliable car. Really peppy and a comfortable car to drive at that! I honestly can't see them really getting any cheaper. I can't imagine a better optioned and more reliable car for the money, not to mention, half-way sporty looking.

edit* I'm surprised you find it cramped at 6'. I'm 5'10" and I have a TON of headroom. Are you sure your mom doesn't have the seat adjusted all the way up in height? lol

  3. 2007 Flint Mica Scion TC, 5-speed with 144,xxx miles. My best friend bought it in 2011, and I took it off his hands last year, so I have a pretty extensive knowledge of maintenance history. 30k on new clutch. Pads and rotors, brake flush, trans flush, clutch master/slave flush, front and rear O2 sensors have all been done in the past year. Interior is in very good condition- no rips, split seams or awful smells. Always a non-smoker car. Comes equipped with a bunch of power items, heated mirrors, key-less entry, and panoramic sunroof. Also equipped with a Parrot hands-free Bluetooth unit. I've been averaging between 26 and 30mpg mixed driving and the motor is chain-driven, so no need to worry about timing belts. Body is fairly well kept with some dings and light scratches, but the car presents very well. Has aftermarket Konig wheels with Blizzaks installed, ready for the winter.

Help yourself to specs and reviews

*full disclosure* CEL does show for Catalytic Inefficiency(why I installed new O2 sensors), and there's a rattle coming from the muffler because it could use new hangers. Title DOES show an accident in 2008 that was repaired by a certified dealership and a new rebuilt title was issued.

TL;DR - Great reliable car that just needs a new owner.

    CR Price: $3800 firm.

I'll get better pictures this weekend when I have a day off from work.

  4. PS - Anecdotal evidence plus a dollar will buy you a cup of coffee. The term was "app crashing fuckups" as in Apple has just as many of these as anyone. And the stats show it. But don't tell the vegan hipster millennial tech blogosphere that. Data hurts em in the triggerfeels and makes you a bad.

Unless you can show facts to back this up, that's nothing more than conjecture.

  5. I was on opiods for 3 months after foot surgery. I wouldn't go so far as to say I got addicted but I did experience a week or two of rather irritating withdrawal symptoms. I delt with it like Man. Besides, I really don't care for them Opiods, im more the Cocaine type :gabe:

At any rate what im getting is IMO the vast Majority of those who switch to Heroin from Painkillers switch because they miss the "High". It's not that they can't deal with the pain, it's not that they can't deal with the withdrawals, it's that they can't deal with not getting absolutely blitzed every day all day.

"I switched to Heroin because I got hooked on painkillers". No, you switched to Heroin because you got hooked on getting High.

    Nailed it.

  6. First and foremost, I want to say this wasn't exactly a solicited post by Joe or Howard.

I want to thank and show appreciation for these two guys who put on a fantastic CCW class. Joe had mentioned that his class this past Sunday was full, but he pulled some strings and was able to fit me in after I expressed interest. I didn't really know what to expect, however, I was very pleased that his classes are small and very personal. After going over important topics from the NRA handbook, Joe and Howard both work with every student individually on the range. Some students had never even touched a gun prior to the class, and I watched their groupings go from literally nowhere near the 20ft target to 4". The patience and dedication these guys have in these classes is tremendous, and I believe there's something to be said about people like these two. Their knowledge and skill of the subject matter is incredible and thorough- I couldn't see how someone could have a better experience elsewhere.

If anyone is looking to receive a certification for their CCW, I strongly suggest working with these two... I assure you, you won't be disappointed!

    Thanks again, Joe and Howard!

  7. Lol this is awesome in just about every way... well done, Clay! Pat yourself on the back for a job well done, and enjoy playing with the paddles while everyone tries to figure out WTF all that noise is about when you dump the car.
