I dont really feel like readin all of this but i'll throw in my glove for what i've seen so far. Macs are no better than PC's why do they generally lock up less? Hardware is only made by a few vendors, limits the number of variables and possibilities of manufacturers to cut corners by creating cheaper parts that are prone to failure/interference. if it just stops playing vid but sound continues switching the vid to full screen then back down to the previous size. Problems with W media player will cause the vid screen to go black when you click on different windows, change the volume, move the page around, basically do anything. usually resizing solves the issue, what program are you using to play vids if not WMP?

you're gonna have to be more specific when you say "weird" else it gets a little tricky to explain stuff but msconfig and task manager will give you a good start
