I have a 87 Monte Carlo, I like it, it's broke. Chevrolet owns them, but they're filling bankruptcy (butchered word!) soon. What cars are cooler and better I think depends on what magazine you read. :-) and on horsepower and weight, companies (especially GM) have been bullshitting numbers for years. It's completely possible to watch a car that weights 3800 lbs and has 300hp (3000GT VR-4) take a Corvette with the same HP rating and weighs a bunch less. Just my 2 cents. and you can play the 'physics mind numbers' game all day long a lot of times it just comes down to who sucks at driving and who doesn't. A Stock (1999+?) Mustang GT is capable of high 13's ... not a lot of people can do it though. And lets not forget about the 'perfect day on a perfect track with the tail wind' variable when it comes to reporting track times. I'd hate to have a car that beats everything, then I wouldn't be any cooler than Tilley or Sam. :-)

Generally it's the mustang guys that will tell you that the Corvette and the Mustang run in different classes and it's not fair to compare them. car for car, I think the Corvette has always been a better car, but that could be me just being biased. and though the 06 Z06 and the Cobra have yet to be placed up against each other (at least anywhere I've seen.) The Z06 did hang with the Viper and the Ford GT40. So I'd expect the Z06 will out do the new Shelby Cobra unless Ford wants to knock a few thousand off of it's GT40.

I heard (rumor, never personally dealt with them) on one of the monte carlo forums, that Jet Hot is great for customer service and all this and the other, but places like Jegs and Summit and a lot of other companies that advertise Jet hot coatings aren't Jet Hot inc ... I hear whitenoises ... sorry about your engine Doctor, well mostly not really sorry, but it sucks to see/hear of it happening to such a renowned car. Sorry was just my way of trying to relate to your situation ... but I really have no idea. Regardless, I'm sure it'll continue to hold one of the 'baddess Z06 in Columbus' titles. Just build it so you can beat Crash, that should be number one priority . Then you'll have no worries with anyone else. just my opinion, don't wanna sound like a suckass. And "Shooters" caddy that tells him to use a 5 iron or whatever and Shooter grabs the wedge makes the shot and fires the guy.
