Lots ogf good info here guys - thanks for the replies. Had not looked that deep into the Grand Am idea - had one and like the way it drove. It is clear why they are cheap. Going to look into that Buick. They are absolutely one of the most boring cars out there but that is just what she needs! I am going to pay cash - could pay more but in the end it is safe to assume she will wreck it. I hate to say that and hope she doesn't - she is very mature but I think I am safer to assume I will be losing this money. As far as me getting old - yep - but I did have her at 21. I started early!

I am in the market for a car for my daughter who turns sixteen in December. The specs: - safe - reliable - cheap (< $3,000) - ABS - FWD - economical It does not have to be pretty but also don't want a rust bucket. My ideas so far: - Grand Am - found a couple of 2001-2003 with ~ 100K miles or so in the range - I could work on it as I am familiar with the 2.8 / 3.1 / 3.4 V6 - Ford Taurus - 2001-2002 seem to be available Any issues I should know about on these 2? Anything imported (maybe Corolla / Civic though Civics are hard to find in that price range it appears)? My research says no to VW but other opinions? What other options? Are there cars you have seen that I should look into?

Car had a torn axel boot so I purchased a new axel assembly. I have it all torn down but the axel will not come out of the transmission. I looked at the new part and there does not seem to be a bolt that is holding it in there but am I missing it somewhere? I have removed the one end from the wheel hub and it is totally free except for the end in the transmission.

Yes it sold. Guy picked it up this weekend and drove it home to Illinois

Hmmm. Not sure why I feel the need to defend myself here but let me be clear. None of the funds I received for the sale of my car will be used to buy a different car, period. I am also not sure what lying about that would gain me. Oh well, Think what you want.

Guess you missed the 12 to 24 months part? By selling the TA I accelerated my getting out of all debt plan. The money I save each month is being put into an investment account. A portion of which will by my next car.....with cash. Nice try though?

Thanks I will check that out. May consider an S4 or maybe an RS6 but I am pretty sure it will be an M3 or M5. Always wanted one.

Not done yet...negotiating with a couple of bidders. Market is certainly soft on these cars right now. I had multiple 20K offers a couple years ago - should have sold!

It pulled 331 with just a lid and catback - it has always been a strong example. I will get back into the car game at some point - just not in the cards right now.
