They probably need a good clean and synch, but the insulators are in poor shape. I'm afraid if I pull them, the insulators may get damaged and those aren't replaceable. The insulators are what hold the carb to the motor and from what I've read, that's one of the most unavailable and sought after parts. As far as timing, I don't think the it is adjustable on this but I'll check again. There are a few rebel sites out there and I've been reading like crazy. People are trying to adapt parts to fit and from what I've gathered, it simply isn't worth the cost and effort in most cases. Some things readily swap on, but some of the more important things like carb parts are just too scarce. When one gives up on trying to keep theirs running, everyone swoops in like vultures to snag up the parts. I could probably make more off this bike parting it out than I could selling it as a runner honestly.

Posted it elsewhere but now I'm looking for some advice. I suspect I know what the answer will be but hey, doesn't hurt to,ask right? http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i191/gillbot/imagejpg1_zps62365c44.jpg Before I got it plated I took the gamble and rode it across town for a "vin inspection". On the way back it was popping bad on decel and at idle so I parked it. Well, today I took it out for a 20+ mile ride and it ran well with no popping that I could hear or notice. However, now there's a bit of a hesitation mid throttle and if you are cruising along mid throttle it has a bit of a buck or surge to it. I know the inevitable is "rebuild the carbs duh" but the problem is there are literally no parts available for this bike. I pulled the plugs and they looked pretty tan not white so I don't think it's over lean. I'm afraid that if I pull the carbs, I may end up doing more harm than good and if anything gets damaged, it basically becomes a parts bike at that point. I also noticed that when you roll on the throttle pretty hard the clutch seems to slip. I need to go through the service manual and check up on the adjustment procedure, but I suspect it's probably just worn out. With the lack of parts and the fact that this is a nearly 30 year old bike, I think it's now a case of limp it along for the next year or so then replace it rather than dump money into it. The main reason I got this bike was the fact that it's better than the typical rebel 250 since it's 450cc and it also has OD. The biggest factor though, it was cheap. Now I haven't ridden a bike in nearly 20 years, so I figured a "beater" would be better short term then upgrade. I was really hoping I could fix this one up as I went along, then hand it down to the wife when I upgrade. I'm thinking that may not happen now since I can't really find parts anywhere, and when you do they are ever abused or cost more than your first born. Thoughts? Gamble on repairs or just ride the bitch into the grave?
  3. I was on the fence, but datwhite............ Spooge.
  4. Please http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/girlsplaytoy_17/GiantTurbo2.jpg
  5. I thought hoax as well, but literally every outlet has exploded with the report. I am sad.
  6. I want, I just never make it over that way.
  7. I see radio flyers all the time for $20, sometimes "1960's" wagons that look old and original for the same. I usually offer $10 or so and had a few stick but I never followed through. If I see any more I'll let you know. I have no need now that my kids are bigger but these are neat to see completed.
  8. If you don't mind, how much do you usually pay for the originals? I see them go up for sale all the time here fairly cheap and could snag some for ya of you need more.
  9. The breeze has a throttle limiter on it from the factory, makes it easy to dial down. Plus you can get replacement sprockets cheap and gear it down so the top speed is low.
  10. I have two Yamaha Breezes here now, daughter likes riding but isn't sure about doing it on her own yet. They can be had for cheap too, plus parts seem to be easy to find. See my craigslist thread for details.
  11. Does it have atv info in it or just auto?
  12. Nah. Not a bobber fan. Everyone these days is into the cage or bobber thing, I'll leave it as it is for now.
  13. He 3.6 has it's issues but overall it's a decent engine http://www.pentastars.com/engines/repairs.php
  14. I'm slowly making it into my own. I think I may even spring to have the fenders and tank all painted.
  15. You can see how bad the battery box was. The other side pipe was worse than the battery box and it looks even better. Pics don't really do it justice, it really did a lot better than I expected. Like I said, I know it ain't perfect but for a cheap cruiser, I'll take it.
  16. I don't have a good before, this is the best I got http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i191/gillbot/imagejpg1_zps27514d6a.jpg
  17. It needs grips, they are on order. At least now it's a 10 footer instead of a 50 footer.
  18. Why yes, it does work! http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i191/gillbot/imagejpg1_zps62365c44.jpg I know it isn't perfect, but man what a difference! Got the idea from here: Chrome Polishing, Mythbusters Style
  19. Aside from my concerns about the head issues, I love my pentastar.
  20. '12 jk's had head problems, go for 13's but that's out of the budget i believe. IMHO, most I know that are jeep fans admit the JK's v6 is WAY better than the older models, even with their head issues. Some prefer the auto for off roading so they don't have the extra pedal, to me I prefer rowing so I got the manual.
  21. $650. I had the grizzly posted above (post #3) and I hated it. Bought it for $1500 but in the end it was too big and bulky for me to really enjoy. My goal when I sold it was to get an atv and bike with the $2000 I sold it for. Considering I got both the breeze and rebel for under $1000, I think I'm doing fine.
  22. Well, Breeze #2 didn't pan out so well. The price I paid it wasn't bad, but for the time and effort of driving to Chillicothe to get it sucked. It was supposed to need a carb, but after I got it home I found it had no compression. I mean NONE. I guess for $300 I can't complain since rings are cheap. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i191/gillbot/imagejpg1_zpse8d5f80e.jpg Now my Honda Rebel deal I'm very happy with. It's an '86 Rebel 450 running and riding but it truly does need a bit of TLC. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i191/gillbot/imagejpg1_zps27514d6a.jpg For what I paid on this one, it makes up for the hassle of the bad breeze.
