You can install crown or base moulding to hide the wires. up the wall, out where the crown would cover it, around to the speaker location, down through the wall again. Install termination plates behind the speakers for an even cleaner install. A non reflective surface screen will inherently absorb light. 40% might be hyperbolic, but it is certainly high.

I guess I look at it like this: If this were car related, CR folks would call it sloppy and half-assed. Likewise, if you posted this on a home theater enthusiasts forum they would say the same. With limited resources and competing priorities I realize that something has to lose. Just like anything else though, I'd ask: Why not go all the way? If you're going to do it, do it right. Fish the wires in the wall and ceiling, spend $200 bucks on a monoprice screen to avoid the 40% light loss you are experiencing, etc....

I have a few but not for a better price than you'd get at monoprice.

06'. old news.

We call that a beard.

It is more than simple to do it yourself. Ohio has a website dedicated to it: Link We can't tell you whether you would need a vendor or dealer license without knowing the type of industry. The cost to form an LLC I believe was $75.

Why is ther such a rush to pass Gov't Healthcare?
iwishiwascool replied to KillJoy's topic in Dumpster
From the COP:Taking Stock:What Has the Troubled Asset Relief Program Achieved? Report- A congressional oversight committee hearing consisting of numerous independent economists. Economists who, by the way, are even smarter than I thought I was when I was 22. First an overview: The plot summary: Redefining our metric: Summary of our metric: The point is, my statement was not to say that the TARP was a magical panacea for all of the economic challenges. The primary purpose, as decided by a bipartisan contingency of lawmakers, was to stave off the impending economic meltdown that loomed. For that and that alone it was successful. It remains to be seen how it will impact the broader scope of the economic recovery. If that isn't enough I suppose I could compile individual testimonies. I'm tired. -

Arguing with a 22 y/o is great. Winning an argument has nothing to do with presenting a valid counter point and everything to do with being the last post in the thread. Before I chose to post arguments by real life economists, not partisan pundits, let us define your metric of "success". Mine was simply: avoiding a catastrophic lending crisis that pitched the economy into a depressionary spiral. -

Wait... You seriously believe that the economy would have avoided a catastrophic event without the capital infusion? Sure, it could have been written in a way that paid greater dividends to the tax payers who assumed the risk, but seriously? What alternative does your retrospective insight tell you should have been done instead? As for Cash for clunkers defining it as fact was overstepping. I concede that one. -

I can get behind everything up until the getting us nowhere parts. The Bailouts were initiated at the end of the last administration. Remember when McCain dropped everything to rush to Washington to "help"? Not to mention that without the bank prop up things would have been much worse, that is a fact. It was stupid to not put provisions to benefit the taxpayers on the upside. Cash for clunkers was considered marginally sucessful too in achieving it's intended goal. I'm sure you understand the multiplication effect of injected capital. I'll go back to agreeing that this bill became a feeding freenzy. -

How glad are we that we only had 1 terrorist attack in bush's first year. What is it about defining one's political loyalty that makes one completely ignore reality and history. -

P.S. I just wish the Democrats could be more like the Republicans and pass health care reforms above water, completely transparent, and without deception! Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement and Modernization Act Some excerpts: One month later, the ten-year cost estimate was boosted to $534 billion, up more than $100 billion over the figure presented by the Bush administration during Congressional debate. The inaccurate figure helped secure support from fiscally conservative Republicans. It was reported that an administration official, Thomas A. Scully, had concealed the higher estimate and threatened to fire Medicare Chief Actuary Richard Foster if he revealed it.[3] By early 2005, the White House Budget had increased the 10-year estimate to $1.2 trillion.[4] The bill came to a vote at 3 a.m. on November 22. After 45 minutes, the bill was losing, 219-215, with David Wu (D-OR-1) not voting. Speaker Dennis Hastert and Majority Leader Tom DeLay sought to convince some of dissenting Republicans to switch their votes, as they had in June. Istook, who had always been a wavering vote, consented quickly, producing a 218-216 tally. In a highly unusual move, the House leadership held the vote open for hours as they sought two more votes. Then-Representative Nick Smith (R-MI) claimed he was offered campaign funds for his son, who was running to replace him, in return for a change in his vote from "nay" to "yea." After controversy ensued, Smith clarified no explicit offer of campaign funds was made, but that that he was offered "substantial and aggressive campaign support" which he had assumed included financial support.[14] -

Those of you excited about Scott Brown's presence do realize that he voted FOR the Mass. Heath Care mandate.... don't you? Massachusetts has one of the more progressive state systems in the country. I like the fact that to retain his position next election he will be forced to show that he will not tow the typical Republican line. He will be forced to make compromises instead of being resolute in absolutes. I'd like to see the bill broken down into individual measures that overturn issues like the pre-existing condition denials, enact tort reform, and initiate equal rules across state lines. That all sounds distinctively Republican. Where I differ is that I'm not ignorant enough to believe that these issues alone are reform enough to fix the system. -

Please stop polluting the discourse with factual inaccuracies. You do a disservice to those willing to trust that you did your homework. Twenty-one percent of the uninsured are immigrants, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. But that figure includes both those who are here legally and those who are not. The number of illegal immigrants who are included in the official statistics is unknown. -http://www.factcheck.org/2009/06/the-real-uninsured/ -
So now, when the health care bill doesn't get passed
iwishiwascool replied to copperhead's topic in Dumpster
You think the majority of people don't want health care reform? See me in 10 years when you are denied coverage for the acne you had at 16. Just because the current bill is a disaster doesn't meant it was fixing something that wasn't broken. My hope is that it will wake up republicans to realize that the path back to power is via centrist philosophies and not the religious demagogue bullshit that has been pervasive for the past 10 years. My fear is that it will calcify their current mantra of "just say no" to everything in hopes of derailing any democratic accomplishments. Political posturing for two straight years, without even a hint of a unique idea or solution, should not be a behavior that is rewarded. -
Projector Vs. big Lcd/plasma

Unless those floor standers have a crossover built to adjust for the resonance of the wall you'd do well to voice them to the room in a zone of acoustic neutrality. A proper tow would make the sound stage more articulate and accurate... Not that you asked for opinions. -

I've heard good things about the panasonic. You'll have a hard time finding a dealer to demo it as the investment to show a low margin inexpensive unit like that does not justify the expense of the space. Definitely don't skimp on the screen. DaLite provides some affordable options. The audio in budget systems is so often an after thought. I'd argue that in an emersive experience sound is just as important as the display. Those HTIB systems are crap and will do more to take away from the emotive function of the room. -

PS. If anyone wants to see what is possible when it comes to home theater, I'm more than welcome to show off what can be done. I have no illusion that anyone will spen 15k on a projector but when you see the best, you figure out quickly what your priorities are and where you cand spend your money to find your best percieved value. http://www.progressiveaudio.com. -

PS monoprice's RMA process has nothing to do with sending it back. They just send you a new one.
-
Don't rule out the monoprice cable just because it's new. I just got one in yesterday that was a dud out of the 4 I ordered. It happens and is the most likely culprit. Just go buy a big box HDMI, test it out. If it works, RMA the monoprice one and return the Big Box cable when you get the replacement. Mine is a little trickier as the Lowes RCA HDMI is now in the wall, but Ill pull that shit out before I spend $29 for a worse cable than the $4 monoprice one.
