    AIG

The bailout was not simply handing over cash to the failing company. It is a guaranteed loan at more than 11%. The fed actually stands to gain from the deal even if it has to break up the company in smaller pieces after a default. I don’t think it should have ever gotten to this point but not taking this action would have caused such a disruption in the money market funds that ordinary people would not trust investment vehicles that were once considered inherently stable.
  2. Because I am far more open minded and analytical than most.... not to mention smarter
  3. Show me a single litmus that indicates I am left leaning in any way. I am a political moderate that has the unique ability to see the pros and cons of a multitude of situations. Instead of blindly lining up behind a single candidate and being a mindless puppet for the party (read: team), I weigh the issues for each and every plank of the platform. What I will do is call out people like you who happen to be the problem with todays polarized political landscape when they make absolutely ridiculous ascertations like: "Fox news is fair and balanced" and "Bill O'Reilly is objective". Please. It is common knowledge that MSNBC is clearly liberal and FOX is as right as they get. Believing that one is objective while the other is balanced is the result of ignorance to one's own submission to a party line. I resubmit, You are an idiot.
  4. Absolutely true... I liked the article because it catalogs the data in an easy to read format. here is the source data: http://www.gpoaccess.gov/eop/
  5. Clearly if I "got" what you "got" I would so easily be able to define political allegiance based on overly simplified black and white terms of polarity like "life support machines" vs. "social Darwinism activists" or some such non-sense. Do you really think that I lack the realization that federal fiscal responsibility hasn't been a priority since 1971 when Nixon eliminated the fixed gold price? And that it was a relative non-issue long before that? Really? I would wonder who, in your vast 21 years of political observation, would you consider a true fiscal conservative. Next time leave your "*sigh*" and spoon at home when you're heading to a gun fight.
  6. Jesus. You just lost your "Take my posts seriously thread". O'Riley makes John Stewart look like effing Santa Clause on the politically biased scale. For all in tents and porpoises I want to shake the niavety right out of you
  7. His economic advisor Phil Gramm (Who he assumably relies on heavily as a result of his self admitted novice on the topic) was the one who pushed through the legislation that led to the deregulation of the financial industries. That deregulation is the foundation of the economic downturn we are all complaining about. Bush was a "Fiscal Conservative" too. How well has that worked out for us? The reality that democrats realize and a relatively basic understanding of history and economics shows is that the middle class drives the economy. As the mindless consumer spends and spends the economy flourishes. In downward economic slumps the tax reprievals and incentives provided by the republican legislators to big business and upper income earners are hoarded until the perceived "Bottom" of the slump.

    mortgage ?

Chances are he was laughing at you not with... The situation is clear that you were duped by a predatory lender who showed you the short term pros of your ridiculous loan... but surely, reassured by your presentation and demeanor, left out the ramifications of such a short sighted venture with more than reasonable certainty that you wouldn't do your own investigation into its long term impact. This "idiot" is sitting on a 30yr Fixed at 5.25% with double your equity.
  10. Though all the stop lights are off around me, I have never lost power off westerville road. My hood was spared.

    mortgage ?

With the info presented I made the assumption that refinancing would be a challenge with the more recent constraints on loan approvals.

    mortgage ?

I dont have time to wait for your answer. Lets say you purchase a $100,000 house at a 5% interest rate. Your interest on the first year is about $450/mo. That is your payment (less tax and insurance). You are paying zero dollars to your principal. The following 5 years you are doing the same... you are only paying the interest for THAT year. When your ARM is over you will be liable for the interest in addition to principal payments AND your interest rate will adjust to whatever the terms of your loan dictate. The only way this loan could have worked in your favor is if you planned to renovate and resell the property in a short time, or if the market drove the price of the home up exponentially thereby granting you equity. In other words you are fucked and an idiot for not knowing what you were doing when you signed for this loan. Let me know when the house goes to auction.

    mortgage ?

Is this the type of mortgage you have?
  14. String theory was taught in my AP physics class... 9 years ago. I did a report on dualities in the 8th grade. I attended a public suburban school in Cleveland.
  15. The tax information a little bit clear for you all: http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Barack_Obama_Tax_Reform.htm
  16. If every opinion you have is perfectly aligned with one party's platform you have to ask yourself whether it is you developing your opinions of the "team" you have decided to sheepishly endorse and advocate. I agree that simple minds are likely to make everything black and white... blue and red if you will. If that works I am happy for those that can find solace in that.
  17. You follow that comment with this one?: The other problem with political discussions is that hyperbolic statements supplant actual debate skills and facts... as if to say unless a statement is so extreme as to evoke fear, it will be ineffective. I went to the Obama rally in Dublin, I will go see McCain if he speaks near by. I am a political moderate who leans right on social welfare issues, left on personal choice issues (marriage/RvW), and foreign policy. Unlike many of you, despite my income being much higher than most of you, I am in touch with the reality that supply side economics trumps Trickle-down economics terms of my personal and I believe national benefit. Step back and try to have a more global perspective on the political punditry you bang out on your little keyboard and you all might be taken more seriously.
  18. Your agenda has made you delusional. You lost all credibility after that statement. I'm not going to engage in this intellectually amature political debate, but as someone who makes a living from public speaking, he is one of the best orators of our generation. His timing is spot on, his cadence, inflection, and volume control are fairly amazing. It is the inability of people with an opinion to accept or recognize the possibility of validity in an opposing viewpoint that have created the ignorant polarized political discourse that most of you spout as gospel. You must be delusional. Assuming your other threads are as convoluted as this one I could all but guarantee finding a knock on Obama's political experience. And I highly doubt that you were doing substantial research from all six articles posted about her in... "The Alaska Daily News". At least keep it real.
  19. My driveway is a mess... Dips, ruts, and crumbling in some place. Any recommendations on who to have it fixed by and how much such a thing costs?
  20. My GF just relocated here from Chicago where she was a medical sales rep. She would like to get back to HR/Admin again in a position with upward mobility. She comes with a Masters in Business Administration, Sales/HR/Accounting/and public speaking experience. Anybody know of any openings or inside routes?
