FINALLY had a day that I've been reading about on a local forum where other people have been catching fish like crazy. Got out in the kayak on the water on Hoover around 3:30 and started in right away. By 6 pm, I had caught 13 crappy (threw all back) only 2 or 3 that were over 8". But the highlight of the day was a monster 25" ~12 lb catfish I caught after the first crappy. Caught it in 3' of water in a cove on the east side of Hoover. I ended up giving it to a nice Asian fellow who was nice enough to measure and hold it up for me. This was the biggest fish I've ever caught in my life (33 years). I'm looking forward to seeing what tomorrow brings. The crappies were biting like crazy and I barely had time to put the lid back on my minnow bucket before I was catching another one. Caught the cat also with a tiny minnow in 3' of water on 6 lb test. Being more of a spectator then an active participant in some of the more 'heated' threads, it's quite clear that there are some major differences in opinions here and as we all have more than likely been on forums for a while, we know that these types of issues are cyclical. During the 'off' season, there's a whole lot more shit talking because people aren't able to get out and mingle with their fellow forum members as much as they are during the rest of the year. Having not been as active as some back when I first registered on this site, I don't know (or care to know) all the back stories in which some of the animosity exists between OG members, but after what all of the site went through in the last couple of months with the loss of a major part of the forum, I think examining what your roles are here on this forum should be looked at more closely. Why do you enjoy coming to the site and interacting with these people? Flaming back and forth is just how these forums work, it's going to happen no matter what rules you put in place. It's up to the individual as to how they deal with it. Are you the type of person that can laugh it off or will what was said get your blood boiling so much that you can't let it go? We all agreed to a set of parameters when we joined this site and if you're one that enjoys testing those parameters, then I would hope that you would be able to accept the consequences of doing so. I don't know a lot of people personally on here, but I enjoy the time I spend here and those I interact with. My time would be spent elsewhere if I didn't. My point is, remember why you enjoy coming here and what brings you back.
