Thanks. So santa showed up early and took care of those worthless speakers. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/DSCF1673.jpg In photo- Head unit http://mobile.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL028484&pathId=133&page=1 JVC KD-AVX77. Did not want a flip out screen that would block my A/C vents or I would have gone Alpine. Alpine SPS-406 and 600's. Not pictured are the matching 6X9's that go overhead. They are in the garage with the template. I had to modify the factory 4X10 openings. I listened to Infinity Reference and Kappas, Polk, JL, Alpine Type R, and Focal. The type S sounded best to me for my price range. These will be pushed with a JL 6 channel amp, (not in pic). I have an Alpine 10.2 inch overhead monitor in the mail that should be here tomorrow or Friday for back seat entertainment. The passenger up front will watch the TME-M580 5.8" monitor that will be behind the glove box door. The dual ecus leave me just enough room to make a fiberglass wall back there and recess a spot for the monitor. This will also keep it out of eye-shot from those looking in for something to steal. For bass I have a JL Stealthbox with a 10W3v3 sub as a center console pushed by a JL single channel mono amp. Not pictured. Link- http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_stealthbox_detail.php?fit_id=1446 Am I leaving anything out? Thinking about a rear camera, but have not done any research on quality/price. Needs wheels after paint if I have a pot to piss in.

With everyone up to speed on the progress of this long term build, I can tell you were it's at today. I did all Energy Suspension up front and all new Moog parts, (ball joints, adjusters, tie rods, idler, etc.) http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/DSCF1615.jpg I now have the interior stripped since the long back windows developed leaks and the thing is going to the paint booth. I decided to go all white to keep it simple. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/DSCF1632.jpg When stripping the interior I discovered why my dome lights did not work. Notice the white wire. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/DSCF1633.jpg Any wires that had insulation damage or corrosion were cut, then added a section of factory GM wire, (color matched), and soldered. Did I mention that the stereo sounded like ass? http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/DSCF1541.jpg

I bought this Suburban in 2003, (the year I left Ohio for Florida), with around 140K miles on it. 454/4L80E, 8 lug, and good paint. The truck is a California truck, so the body has no rust. It served me well all that time until it developed a knock that turned out to be a wrist pin in late 2006/early '07 with around 175K. Instead of a reman motor or a simple rebuild, I made the 454 into a 496. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/2006_0306motor0006.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/DSCF0185.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/DSCF0186.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/DSCF0212.jpg As you can see I went full roller valvetrain, (hydraulic), and bored the intake to match the bored and sleeved tbi, (by JimD@454ss.com). The truck ran decent with just the fuel pressure turned up and a vacuum referenced fuel pressure regulator. I had limited time to tune since we were moving north to Virginia at the time, so I added a wideband and saw from that and the plugs that the thing was close enough to get me 900+ miles north. It ran rich, but at least it wasn't going to melt the pistons. Here is a pic of it during a stop moving north. (Notice the paint peeling then). The Florida sun did that clean factory paint in big time. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/DSCF0386.jpg So once we got settled in and everything in Virginia, the 'Burb kinda sat there untouched as I went riding my motorcycle on 2000 mile trips and eventually got busy with work, then a kid. I drove it here and there until it started running like crap, to the point that I bolted an 850 Demon on it and BG regulator, and gave up on the EFI idea. Well, I didn't like the driveability and the hassle with a carb, so back on went the big TBI. I left the BG regulator in place and built a block-off plate for the factory regulator. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/DSCF1311.jpg After much research and contemplating, I decided to try a different approach at the efi. I thought about a FAST system, ACCEL DFI, Edelbrock, Megasquirt etc. Everything in the book. I landed with the factory-ish dynamicefi ecu. It was the best priced way to go in the end and damn near fell into place. Check out www.dynamicefi.com if you are a GM TPI or TBI owner. This thing was a breeze to tune and the truck runs like a beast now. I still have to tune for WFO, but my cruise and heavy throttle is spot on. Need some dyno time! I had to add some sensors here and there to make it right, but the stuff is all readily available and cheap. Oh yeah, I had to piggy-back my factory ECU to run the electronic trans, but this was simple too. The only drawback is losing my glovebox, (pic below), but you'll see my plans for that later. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/DSCF1355.jpg

Lots of good info in this thread. I had a TJ with the 4.0/5sp and 3.73 gears. It had plenty of power too. I towed a 17'11" tunnel hull with an outboard on a tandem axle trailer. The whole package weighed around 3000 lbs. It would get and go just fine, but handling and braking were on the verge of dangerous. I towed from Hilliard to Lake Cumberland Ky and back once with that combo. We had a situation on the way home where traffic was running along fine and came to a sudden stop out of nowhere. The momentum of that little boat nearly caused me to lose control. I bought a truck after that. I now have a K2500 Suburban for all of the reasons listed by posters before me. It will haul anything and tow anything I have with ease. Mine is a 1993 8 Lug version with the 4L80E that I built a 496 full roller motor for since the factory 454 is anemic. In fact, I love the 'Burb so much that I am in the middle of a complete interior and paint resto of it. Go with a big 'Burb and never look back. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/th_DSCF1437.jpghttp://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/th_DSCF0387.jpghttp://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/th_DSCF0386.jpg

It looks like you have decided to stick with pump gas. In the event anyone is reading this thread or you have reconsidered, be sure to contact your boat manufacturer before making the switch. I was lucky enough to own a Skater for a while and was also lucky not to have the fuel tank issues many Skater owners are having now. It turns out that the factory molded in fuel tanks in the hull of the boat using fiberglass. This was fine pre-ethanol pump gas. Once pump gas started introducing a small percentage of ethanol, these fuel tanks started to deteriorate to the point of dumping all of the fuel into the rest of the hull. Not a good situation. The issue is repairable, but the price is high in order for it to be done right. I would assume E85 would speed up this process considerably if your boat has a similarly designed fuel tank(s). Just my .02 For reference, here is the boat I had. Sold it before moving to Virginia from Fla. Don't miss the upkeep, cost, hassle..... do miss the speed and fun- http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/Bathroom%20remodel-Fla/105.jpg

I don't have a turbo key chain, but I do have one that makes a great door stop. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/TDi/DSCF0219.jpg http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/TDi/?action=view¤t=DSCF0219.jpg http://smiliesftw.com/x/retard,dance.gif

Focal's entry level stuff sounds incredible. I took someone's advice and went to a shop to listen with my own ears here in Virginia. This is what I would suggest to you since no two people like the same sound.

I was the Outside Plant engineer for ATT up to 2003 for the Hilliard area. Back then we were pushing DSL just about everywhere. When building out an area, I would have to work the figures around to show that the investment would be paid back in a certain time frame. Of course the denser the area was populated, the easier this was to justify. Which high school are you near? I still have contacts inside I can poke around at for info. You never know.... As far as a T-1 goes, they will gladly put one in your home. I never refused one in my career at ATT. That is their bread and butter. Sometimes customers would incur costs from some of the construction of facilities when there are no repeaters or doublers along the route that feeds you, but to refuse a T-1.....hmmmph. When I moved to Florida there was no high speed options. A T-1 with that provider was around $700 a month, so I had an ISDN put in. Better than dial up and faster than my air card at the time. It is only 128k though. The best option out there is something you cannot get...Verizon FiOS. I worked for those guys in Florida and wow is all I can say. 20 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up with a ton of tv over a fiber to your home is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I logged onto CR a couple days ago for the first time in a year or so. I shot Kenny a PM and we started a conversation on what each other was up to. This morning I checked my PMs to see if he had a chance to respond to my last message. He had mentioned considering moving to Tucson in his last PM. I was curious to see what his response was to my advice.....that, of course, to go out and do it. Especially while he is young and not tied down with tons of responsibilities. I never met Kenny in person, but we always seemed to run into each other on this and another board. We would PM about cars, bikes, and what we were doing to our projects over the past 6 or 7 years now. Like the rest of you, his wit and crude responses always had me cracking up. My heart aches for Kenny's family and all of his friends. He would PM me with a simple message of me being a homo for posting this. RIP Kenny.

Last I checked they have not yet made it compatible with electronic auto transmissions. You could work around it by piggy-backing a stock ecu to only run the trans or buy a $900+ trans controller from TCI or similar.

Welcome!!! Can't wait to see and HEAR the car in person this weekend.

Sure do! I plan on keeping until I either absolutely have to sell it to put food on the table or I destroy it beyond repair.

I've been down this road with a 93 Suburban that I built a 496 for. I added a Walbro 255 and a bored and sleeved TBI that flows over 980 cfm. Went to moates.net and bought everything including the Ostrich realtime emulator. Used the wideband O2 from Innovate and once it was all said and done I could have done what 614Streets is saying to do and bought a real system. He is also right about the mail order stuff. Never heard a good thing from mail order tunes. If you have lots of time and patience, go to thirdgen.org and moates.net to do your own tuning with TunerProRT, (free), and the gear from Moates. If you do not have an electronic trans you'll have more options with the stuff found on Moates. I got so fed up with trying to feed a 496 with a two-barrel that has injectors going static that I am in the middle of putting an 850 Demon on the thing. Really, thirdgen.org should be your next stop if you plan on keeping the tbi. There may be someone over there nearby you willing to help. I have all the stuff to do it but no longer live in Cbus.

I can relate. Made the move from Hilliard, OH to Fort Myers, FL, (2 hours south of Tampa) back in 2003. I made two trips to get my two boats, drag car and enclosed trailer down there. Long drive. I'll dig up my pics off the other computer. I then turned around and moved back north in 2007, (like you plan on doing), except I went to Virginia. Take my advice and sell some stuff while you are down there. I sold one of the boats and it made the move back north much easier. Here's a pic of my move back north- Thanks to my dad for hauling my boat. RIP dad http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/DSCF0387.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/brianscy/The%20Burb/DSCF0212.jpg The Flordia sun was brutal on my Burb's paint. Also, the 496 I built for the Burb was thirsty the whole tow north.

A close friend of mine made the cut of 32 cars. He went the first round and had all the cameras and such put in the car for the final 16 cars. First round the car stalled in the bleach box and by the time he got it started he had no time for a decent burnout. Of course he spun when the turbos started coming in and lost by a fender. By the way, my friend was in the brown Malibu wagon with the blow-thru TT big block Chevy. He was leaving on the footbrake at practically an idle, the car was only 60 footing 1.6 and it still went 10.0's. Haha. All homebuilt in Grove Tucky, OH. It's a new combo with very few passes on it. Pretty cool that he made the show anyhow. Rich is a total toolshed. I watched the Bristol All Out taping last year. He walks around slapping his biceps as if he is in the Olympics as a powerlifter. Total douchebag. The show would be great if they did away with him and used the christmas tree instead of a midget with biceps.

Be sure to do your research before buying a TDI, (tdiclub.com), and throwing veggie oil in the tank. The 04-05 PD motors don't like veggie oil. They will run on BD though. If I was looking to run a veggie diesel I would look at old MB 240D and 300D's. Less complicated, cheap, and run forever. My 05 TDI makes 40+ mpg in South Florida summer heat with the A/C on running with the cruise set at 80. Best has been 50 mpg. I don't do the ghey hyper-miling crap either. I run the piss out of it and still get killer mileage. 92K on the clock and I'm on my second turbo.

Are you in Central Ohio? Have him tow over to Indian Lake. It's around Bellefontaine, OH. The road runs right next to the water. Unless that Z06 of yours runs in the 10s, my money is on the Ally for the first 1300 feet or so. ESPECIALLY with the blue bottle thingy. Why not do dry draggin and wet draggin too? Works for me http://home.earthlink.net/~novawagon/images/11132005wagon.jpg http://home.earthlink.net/~novawagon/11132005wagon.jpg

Oh yeah, been to all the Rumbles except last year. 1200 miles is too far of a tow when I already live in paradise. Austin, I highly recommend you take the next oppurtunity your father presents to you. Allison builds the baddest, fastest, outboard powered v-bottom in the world. When you pull into the local go-fast hang out spot in an Ally, it's like rolling to the next track meet in a 9 second street car. There are only a select few that have a shot at you. Allisons go back and forth with STV's in professional outboard drag racing. They even give some car motored drag boats a scare or two. An ally running 9s and 10s in a 1/4 mile is the norm. Learn to drive that sucker, you will be hooked. A 300 drag is a 2.5. Your dad is more that likely running a Nitrox kit. They are the best. He is not exaggerating on numbers. You my friend, have a cool dad.

Since the beginning. In fact, I live only a few blocks from Greg, the founder and webmaster of S&F. Great site, good people, sweet boats.

That's a 2.5 liter Mercury. 280HP with stock porting. The owner, (Ronnie), ported that particular motor to produce 340ish at the prop. He could run 105 all day long in that little Hydrstream. He stuffed it at aroung d 80 mph this past summer and destroyed the boat. I drag raced him on the Ohio river in 2002. It was choppy. He drove that 16 footer like it was an offshore boat. He can wheel a v-bottom better than most. And yes, he went around me.
-
Why laquer? You can paint carbon fiber just like you paint kevlar or fiberglass. A good P600 scuff, epoxy primer, wetsand, then paint. I painted a go-fast fiberglass boat this way with perfect results using a DuPont two part epoxy primer then Sikkens single stage paint.

Damn Brian, that's around the time when you came over to wish me farewell on the move to Florida. Get of your a$$ dude!!!! My irresponsible parents had me at the dragstrip at two months old. In fact, my mother would take me atop my old man's B100 Tradesman Dodge van so I could see my dad trying his damndest at R/SA in the IHRA. Shame on you for being responsible! keekekee
