  1. This guy reminds me a lot of myself... Badass engineer, super smart, and loves to talk shit on the interwebz (or anywhere, when questioned)
  2. I know a guy here in Cincy that does it in his 1g dsm. I however do not condone it. Aluminum has very poor fatigue properties (less than half the performance of steel alloys), and will be prone to cracking easily.
  3. Hell yea, what good is a parked car? btw, I dont follow the sleeping in the same building reference? My vette sleeps in my garage, haven't seen your car in there
  4. clearcoat can be stripped. It's not a big deal. Find a local metal cleaner and they can handle it for you. If you have ?s or want to pay someone to do it, let me know and I can help.
  5. you need sum werk dun? We can work a deal if you're serious.
  6. yea, I am not a fan of the center caps either. I am thinking of having the corvette flags cnc'd into the tops and powdercoating them.
  7. actually, since I signed the hubs, they are worth at least $5000 more.
  8. nah, not really, lots of bolts, so doesnt take as much to get good seat pressure. Also keep in mind you're bolting into aluminum, and the nuts are locking nuts for good secondary retention. on a bolt that size more torque may cause hte bolt to stretch.
  9. yup, I called CCW today. They told me 28 ft*lbs, dry. Though if you look at the online tutorials they have, they say 30-32 ft*lbs. but that is within the noise.
  10. yup, flat black over flat black to clean them up... horrible, right?
  11. Once that is done, next is to remove the centers. Then I got work taking care of the curb rash. I did this on my 7" sander, started with 40 grit, then 400, then 600. 1000,1500, and 2000 would be done with the rest of the lip. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2068.jpg Next is to wetsand the lips. Depending on the condition of the wheel, I would start with either 1000 or 1500 grit sandpaper. Then 2000 grit for the last passes. For the outer edge, i used a palm sander to help keep it flat. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2069.jpg Once that is done, I did the rest airplane aluminum polishing style. I used the 7" wool buff pad (1" fibers). I used No. 7 rubbing compound for this step. The key is to use low speed and take your time. Start with more pressure and work your way to less pressure as it is worked in. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2070.jpg After that, I replaced the wool buff pad with a 7" foam polishing pad. I used No. 7 polishing compound, followed by 2 applications of Mothers Aluminum Wheel Polish, one on the pad, the 2nd by hand. Finally I used Auto Tech Aluma 1 metal polish by hand with a microfiber, this stuff is amazing. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2071.jpg Then it was time to do the centers. I just used some rustoleum spray paint, because like I said, later on (next tire change or two maybe) I may rice it up with a new look. The paint said "matte black" as I was looking for a flat finish, but I would say it turned out more satin than matte.... oh well, still looks pretty good. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2093.jpg Almost done. I then cleaned up the nuts and bolts by giving them a bath in some CLR. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2082.jpg After that, I bolted the centers back up, and here is the finished look... http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2094.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2095.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2096.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2097.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2098.jpg Still have to figure out tire choice... money is tight so no baller Michelin PS2's for me. I will either keep my Kumho 315s, and get some 265s for hte front. Or get a set of BF Goodrich KDWs (335/30/18 rear, 265/35/18 front) Thank you for watching, back to Football.
  12. So I am sure some of you saw that s15driftricerking was selling some wheels. Well I got them, and then got to putting in work to clean them up. Here are the pics he had in his ad(resaved in my pb): http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/CCw1.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/CCW2.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/CCW3.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/CCW4.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/CCW5.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/CCW6.jpg The pitting and oxidation were really really bad, and all of the wheels had minor curb rash, 2 of them pretty serious curb rash. So my first thought was to put a little sandpaper to them, and paint them. But if I was going to paint them, i wanted it done right, and I dont have the time or money for that right now, so it was going to be elbow grease and still some time. So here is my "build" thread. First I started by cleaning the wheels. Just looking to get as much crud, bird shit (yes, bird shit) and brake dust build-up off of the wheels. I used Purple Power, but if you are worried about paint, I would not use this, and leave it to the Purple Power Brake Dust cleaner. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2063.jpg Here are a few shots after the cleaning, now that the dirt is off, you can still see how much oxidation/pitting/baked on crap there still is... http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2065.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2064.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2066.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2067.jpg
  13. Oh, price is best offer, and I want them gone, preferably local (within a couple hours) and i am willing to drive to seal the deal.
  14. Actually, I have had the alcoas for almost a year... I just have been too lazy to try to sell them. And now I have some CCW classics to go on soon. Since i only have room for 1 set of spare wheels in my garage, the chromes gots to go.
  15. I just bought those from a guy on CR they are in the middle of getting a makeover... will have a thread on that soon...
  16. the bolt pattern is 5x120. They are very very close to the same bolt pattern as the gm 5x4.75. It is off by 0.65mm There are actually several bmw people who run corvette wheels (in particular it was popular to run the sawblades) And i have seen corvette/gm guys run bmw wheels. They fit well, but not sure about affect of stressing the stud?
  17. sorry. Stock zo6 sizes. 17x9.5 front, 18x10.5 rear
  18. Complete top end from new 2011 Camaro. Purhcased this from SLP with my short block when I thought I may use LS3 heads. Since I am not, I do not need this stuff. Brand spanking new condition. Seller Name: David Moster Location: Cincinnati, OH email: mosterda@gmail.com phone: available via PM Price: $500 complete, willing to split if the price is right http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2061.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2060.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2059.jpg
  19. Up for sale is a clean set of corvette zo6 wheels. These were on my car when I bought it, I didnt want chrome so bought some alcoas, so these are up for sale. Seller Name: David Moster Location: Cincinnati, OH email: mosterda@gmail.com phone: available via PM Price: SOLD http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2055.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2056.jpg
  20. Giving it another shot at selling these. (I made a half-hearted attempt before as I kind of wanted to keep them, but dont see getting another car anytime soon w/ baby #2 on the way) http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2074.jpg Seller Name: David Moster Location: Cincinnati, OH email: mosterda@gmail.com phone: available via PM Price: $1,500 (These cost close $5k for wheels alone when new) These are Dronell Type-5, which are extremely rare true 3-pc wheels. (similar build to HRE, DPE, Forgeline, etc... In fact the guys at Wheel Warehouse told me they had never seen an aluminum wheel of this caliber roll through their shop the aluminum was that solid and tough). Good luck finding them anywhere these days as they are no longer found for sale in the US, and if you do, at this price. Dronells are authentic Japanese wheels and are/were imported by a respectable firm called AKT USA. A couple sites that still mention Dronell: http://www.globalautoshop.com/wheels/dronell2.htm http://www.bcautodesign.com/Old_Webs...s_Dronell.html They are 19x8.5 (f) and 19x9.0 ® with custom deep black powdercoat on the centers and polished lips. The offsets are 38mm and 44mm respectively, and have a 6.25" (f) and 6.75" ® backspacing. These wheels are also very light for a 19" wheel, at under 23lbs. In 2006 I had them completely refurbished including the powdercoating, re-polishing the lips, new hardware, ACCU-TRU mounted to make sure they were prefectly round, and new custom BMW roundels for each center cap, which all together cost me close to $1k to have done. It is worth noting when these wheels were refurbished, the owner of the shop mentioned that they were one of the strongest and highest quality wheels he had ever worked on. This item fits the following BMWs: 1999-2005 E46 BMW 323i 323ci 325i 325ci 325xi 328i 328ci 330i 330ci 330xi 2006+ E90 BMW 325i 325xi 328i 328xi 328i xDrive 330i 330xi 335i 335xi 335i xDrive 2007+ E92 BMW 328i 328xi 328i xDrive 335i 335is 335xi 335i xDrive 2007+ E93 BMW 328i 328xi 328i xDrive 335i 335xi 335i xDrive M3 These wheels will also have great fitment on an E46 M3, with the addition of 20mm wheel adapters for the rear. There are several reputable companies that offer these wheel adapters. I suggest Turner Motorsports and ECS Tuning. Both which offer the 20mm adapters, and have used them thoroughly on many applications w/o problems. These wheels were mounted on a 2001 BMW 328i with no rubbing issues whatsoever (H&R cupkit suspension; 2" lowering) and on a 2002 BMW 323ci w/ factory sport suspension also with no issues. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2076.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2073.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2078.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2079.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2080.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2081.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c318/Juicedh22/IMG_2044.jpg
