  1. Saw the notice come across my fb feed, and realized I haven't logged in for a while. I completely get it, and since moving to Cincinnati in 2006, I haven't made a meet. I can't be too surprised that the time has come to shut it down. I am surprised though that as I look at my "last login" info, that I haven't even visited the forum for nearly 5 years. I'd say that doesn't seem right, but I think it just shows how things have evolved.
  2. Damn! Wish my budget were a little bit bigger. I'm looking for a car right now, but the budget only allows about $3k. Hope you get what you need for it!
  3. 1994 YJ Wrangler 2.5 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual with bad synchros (4th gear doesn't work), working 4wd, some rust. New Clutch Master Cylinder, new power steering pump, good tires, 191k+ miles. $2000 http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/cto/2751589516.html Info and pics on CL. I live in Cincinnati, didn't think about putting it on here.
  4. Decided it isn't what I want, going to continue to try to sell my Jeep.
  5. I've read about the rust… Any mechanical issues I should look out for?
  6. Considering trading my Jeep for a 1996 Maxima 5 speed with 177k miles. The current owner says it has new tires, new brakes, and a new clutch. What are some common issues that I need to be looking out for? Should I avoid it like the plague?
  7. Here's the way I would look at it... Lets say that the day after you bought your newer used car, some drunk runs your girl off the road and into a guard rail rendering it not drivable any more. If you have collision coverage, the car will either be fixed or totalled. If you have no collision coverage, you're left with the tow bill, storage charges if you don't have a place to take it right away, and a car that you can't drive, that isn't worth even half as much as it was before it got wrecked. You may be a great driver and your skills may have gotten you out of some sticky situations many times before, but insurance is there to take care of those situations that you never thought could happen. If it were me, I'd look into adjusting my deductibles to lower my premium, and maybe if it'd be the third car, take the rental coverage off of it, but I'd keep the comp and collision for sure.
  8. +1 Exactly my first thought reading about the overheating issue. I had an '86 that I managed to rip off the airdam on a parking barrier, and it started having cooling issues immediately afterward. If I can sell my Jeep, I'll check back.
  9. Looks like a good turn out and some neat cars too. Good on you for putting together a charity cruise. Very cool!
  10. Insurance is about the only thing in this world that you pay for with the hope that you never have to use it. I carry full coverage (Liability, Comp, Collision and Rental) on both cars and my bike because the sense of security is worth it to me. The primary motivation for keeping collision coverage on the 191k mile Jeep? If I leave my car parked anywhere and someone hits it and takes off, that is a collision claim. If my wife is driving down the road and a deer jumps out and she manages to miss the deer, but hits a mailbox in the process, that's a collision claim. If we're driving down the highway, and are left with no option but to hit an object in the road (even if it is a dead animal) because of traffic, that's a collision claim as well.
  11. Thanks, Adam. I still haven't decided what to do with it yet. For right now, I'm just going to keep driving it with 1,2,3, and 5. I figure I'm most likely replacing the tranny anyway... I went ahead and listed it on CL for now (if I can sell it as is without having to deal with it, I will) to see if it generates any interest.
  12. 191k miles... Synchros are what I suspected. Know anyone good and cheap in the Cincy area to fix it? I really can't stomach the idea of dropping the tranny in my driveway as cold and wet as it's been lately.
  13. I've got a 1994 Jeep Wrangler with the 2.5 4 cyl. and 5 speed manual trans. I was driving down the highway this afternoon, all was well and seemingly just fine. I approached my exit, so I began to slow and downshifted to 4th, then as I entered the ramp, 3rd gear. When I got to the bottom of the ramp, I began to accelerate (still in 3rd), and when I tried to shift into 4th, the shifter wouldn't go into gear. I was able to shift into 5th with no trouble at all. 3rd gear feels a little funny now. There seems to be more resistance now when shifting into 3rd, and it won't slide into 4th at all, engine running or not. I'm thinking the synchronizer is shot so it's gonna need rebuilt or replaced. Any other ideas? I need to get this thing taken care of and back on the road ASAP.
  14. Talk to your service writer, and tell him that you'd like to have him open a ticket (repair order) on your vehicle, and let him know that since it is an intermittant issue, and the vehicle is still currently under warranty, you want to have every instance that this issue occurs documented. Let him know that you will take the car and his card, and you will call him every time the issue occurs and you expect him to document their system with the complaint (You'll want to document this as well). Once you can reliably "force" the condition to occur, take the vehicle back to the dealer to have the issue addressed under warranty. The key to intermittant problems under warranty is documentation. If you can show documentation that you've been having an issue since the warranty was in effect, it shouldn't matter how far out of warranty you go, the manufacturer should honor it and repair the vehicle. If they're unwilling, pick the vehicle up and take it to another dealer and go through everything again. Make sure the second dealer is aware that you're there because you were getting unsatisfactory service from the first, and you're hoping for better from them.
