  1. Would you consider an Infiniti QX56 / Nissan Pathfinder? I have a Q and other than a freak issue with the power steering, it's been great...

looking at all of them, i think they are all smaller than an expedition. I can fold the 2nd row down and lay 4'x8' sheets of plywood in the 2000 expy we had.

c'mon guys school me on the GM big haulers i need to know things to watch out for. i think i would rather go suburban than tahoe.

  2. We are looking at buying a kid hauler, but with the ford & lincoln i feel limited to 2003/04 because the engines are more reliable than the 3v modular engine. Don't try to talk me into a 3v i don't want one. We want to stay under $15,000 I know where the rust issues with the fords are and most of thier common issues.

But I am looking more than i expected at a GM offering being that the LS engines seem as stone cold reliable a 2v or 4v 5.4L. I need some information, what are thier common issues, what kind of options do they have? For instance i really like the navigators 2nd row center console. does a Cadillac or suburban have something like that?

I am only looking at extra large SUV's with 4wd.

  3. Casey has a point i habve looked at expeditions around the carolinas and they are dirt cheap, 3-5k for a rust free 4x4 that will nearly lay a 4'x8' sheet of plywood in the back when the seats are folded down.

They have made millions of 4.6L and 5.4L motors and i have owned 11 of them, i have only seen 1 have a spark plug issue. overall they are super reliable. Lucky you, they don't hold their resale for crap. Also our 2000 expedition was a beast in bad weather, it was boring driving through snow. Untill the big girl needed to stop fast on ice.

the biggest issue we had with that truck was the CV boots needed replaced and a brakeline rusted through . . . that was a truck that spent alot of it's life in cleveland, a southern truck won't have that issue.

IMO stick to the 98-04 body style, they are dead nuts reliable and dirt cheap.

this december we are taking the family to florida and i plan on picking something like this up on our way home.

  4. I am in the camp of, i would rather buy a car that someone else has paid alot of money to mod. If you know what to look for and what you are looking at (this may require a friend that is into your desired vehicle type) Buy a modded car that some other dumbass has lost money on. Grab your compression gauge and check the health of the eng. ect.

This does not mean you will not have things to repair. but why pay for the good expensive crap when hyou can let someone else do it?
